THIS IS WHAT YOU'LL HAVE AT LA BALDERA THAT YOU WON'T FIND IN MOST OTHER MOUNTAIN HOMES (OR EVEN MANY VILLAS)
...Designed to be a home, not a vacation rental. Particularly when you go to cook, you'll find everything you need. This house is set up to be lived in comfortably.
...Local property manager is just a phone call - and pretty much a stone's throw - away. If you need some extra help or info, it's usually just a matter of knocking on our door when you have a question about any aspect of your stay :-)
...Outdoor kitchen to prepare your meals poolside. You really don't find this in too many places. With a grill, sink, 2 burner stovetop, refrigerator, plates, glasses, coffee cups, coffee maker, kettle, utensils, pots pans, extensive stone and marble countertop and a wood burning stone pizza oven, you can basically cook every meal surrounded by nature!
...Virtually unlimited hot water. Although there may be a gap in the stream of hot water from time to time, you never have to wait to have a hot shower. This is important for larger groups as most country homes will have a limited volume of hot water, and when it runs out, you have to wait half an hour or so before the tank refills.
...Really good water pressure. La Baldera is at the top of the village, which makes for stunning views and lots of peace. In most other idyllic settings like this one, the trade off is low water pressure (i.e., terribly unsatisfying showers). With the pump system we've installed at La Baldera, you'll have the same water pressure you'd find in a city apartment.
...Bed linens and towels all provided, plus weekly linen changes. If you stay with us for two weeks or longer, we come in to change all your sheets and towels at the end of each week, at no extra charge!
...Clothes dryer. While we encourage guests to use the clothesline outside to dry laundry, we understand the hassle of coping with rainy weather. For this reason, we've provided a dryer for guest use.
...Pre-booking of activities during your stay, at no extra charge (except the cost of the excursion). Guests have found it helpful to have their two hour horse back riding excursion or quad adventure set up for them before they arrive. We'll let you know what's available, you tell us what you'd like to do and we'll book it! This can really save you time and the headache of contacting foreign business owners as you plan your trip. And once you get here, it's all set up for you!
...Pre-arrival food shop. Would you like to have your refrigerator stocked with groceries when you arrive? Especially after a long trip, stopping at the supermarket before heading to La Baldera is just one more tiring thing you have to do. And when you have exhausted kids-in-tow, it's even trickier. So how about you let us do that for you? Give us a grocery list and we'll be sure to stock your fridge. This service is provided at a small fee plus the cost of groceries.
...Local culinary add-ons. We partner with local talent to bring you a variety of culinary experiences that really bring to life the heart of our region. From a personal chef for the evening, to a gourmet pizza masterclass or a deep dive into the world of Tuscan chestnut flour, we like to bring you into what it really means to cook and eat in Tuscany. Message us for more information.

Have a Tuscan holiday in the clouds...La Baldera, a two bedroom/1 bathroom charming country home that sleeps 5, is perched atop a medieval village called Montefegatesi, 800 meters above sea level. With a monument to the renowned poet, Dante Alighieri, as her crown, jeweled in a 360 degree panorama of sky and green earth, Montefegatesi is a place where community still exits and it would be wrong not to take a moment around 4 in the afternoon for a coffee and a chat.
La Baldera's decor is modern and old-world, with straight lines and airy colors intersecting elaborate antique boldness. Your first impression will be, "There's so much natural light" because, unlike most village houses, La Baldera boasts large windows on both the street and the expansive mountain view sides of the property! From the rustic double height ceilings in the master bedroom, with exposed chestnut beams and warm terra-cotta tiles, to the exquisite florentine dining table and wrought iron stufa (wood burning stove), you’ll be reminded that furniture and architecture can be expressions of art and culture.
At La Baldera, you can enjoy retreating from the busy world without sacrificing the modern comforts of home. In the living area, stretch your legs on the soft leather sofa while watching Sky TV on your 42” HD television. Navigate online to your heart’s content, as wifi is seamlessly available all throughout the property - inside and out! The kitchen is fully stocked and offers a stainless steal gas range and refrigerator, along with espresso machine, milk steamer, and dishwasher. As simple as the bathroom may be, the spacious shower more than makes up for it.
And don’t forget the flexibility the bedrooms offer. The master bedroom is furnished with a kingsize bed. The bunk beds in the children’s quarters can be converted into a king and single loft, making La Baldera the perfect holiday home for a young family, two couples or a group of up to five friends.
The property exterior has also been tended to with much love. From her meticulously pointed facade to her custom designed outdoor kitchen made of exclusively local stones, La Baldera expresses undeniably authentic beauty. Step out onto her stone-paved balcony and sink into a wide cushioned bench adorned with pillows and inspiration. You'll find yourself pondering life (or perhaps your next delectable meal ;-) as you rest your head on a plump pillow, mesmerized by the vastness before your eyes.
Down the stairs is your own personal oasis under a wooden pergola (built from locally retrieved beams) filled with luscious grape. You may end up spending most of your time here because you won’t even have to go back inside to cook! After you've had a refreshing dip in the pool (simple, yet perfect for families and more than enough to relax and cool off), turn to your outdoor kitchen. Fire up the sleek modern grill, light the pizza oven or sauté fresh summer vegetables on the stove, transforming what could otherwise be a mundane meal into an outdoor culinary adventure!
So don't get me wrong...Tuscany IS about the David, wine country, duomos, olive groves and cypress trees. But there's more to it than that, and La Baldera is the perfect example of this. It’s the more that most people never get to see. When you go deeper, and higher (funnily enough) to places like Montefegatesi, you find yourself stepping into a world of magnificent green mountains (perfect for hiking and mountain biking), marble-topped peaks, living stone and majestic chestnut trees. Life is simpler up here and it's almost always accompanied by the heavenly scent of a slow-simmering ragu.
La Baldera and Montefegatesi will forever have a piece of your heart. Your local english-speaking property manager (and by local we mean a stone's throw away;-) will keep your finger on the pulse of this medieval gem, with up-to-date information about local activities and excursion possibilities, before you even arrive. Because making holidays memorable means soaking up the essence of a place, we make sure you feel a part of this enchanting portion of the world from the moment you book. Email updates will keep you in the loop and help you plan your holiday. We’ll send you info about local events, activity options during your stay (rafting, beaches, quads, spas and more - which we are, of course, happy to pre-book), as well as an in-home dining menu with local delights for your consideration (a fantastic option for at least one unforgettable dinner, cooked and served to you at home). And to see even more of the Tuscany you never knew existed, we can organize an off-the-beaten-path day tour for you, provided by Toscana con Amici.
This is the kind of place you come to for peace and the freedom to leave your doors wide open as your kids play with abandon outside. It's for mountain cyclists, hikers, or anyone who just enjoys being awed by the majesty of nature and the authenticity of deep historical roots. It's important to note that a measure of physical fitness is essential to really get the most out of vacationing here. La Baldera is located at one of the highest points in Montefegatesi. This makes for supreme tranquility and breathtaking views. As this is a medieval village, the stone-paved streets are very, very narrow. Therefore, you can't just drive up to the property. We will ferry your luggage up when you arrive, of course, and bring it back down for you when it's time to go. But getting to the house requires you to walk up hill. The car park is about an 8 minute walk from the house itself. It's worth every step, and streets that follow the contour of the mountain are part of the experience. But please be sure you're up for this. We'd be happy to answer any questions you may have prior to booking.
