The J.P. Lynn house is a State of New Mexico Registered Cultural Property in the Don Gaspar Historic District. The brick craftsmen-style home was built nearly 100 years ago. Many of the homes in the district were built by relocated executives for the Santa Fe Railroad. This often-overlooked piece of Santa Fe's history provides visitors with a unique perspective of Santa Fe's growth in the early 20th century. This is the perfect Santa Fe rental for those that are looking for something different from the typical Santa Fe style, yet walking distance to the Plaza.
The JP Lynn House is located a pleasant 5-block walk down Don Gaspar Avenue from the Roundhouse/New Mexico State Capitol Building. Four blocks further will land you at the Santa Fe Plaza. Although very close to downtown, the Don Gaspar District's larger lots and beautiful gardens provide a quiet, peaceful retreat from the popular tourist destinations.
A complete interior renovation was completed in 2016 that not only modernized all of the fixtures, but all of the furnishings were replaced as well. Tin-style ceilings, brick accents, original woodwork, original leaded-glass windows and craftsmen-style finishes are found throughout the home, but those modern amenities we all enjoy were incorporated into the design.
Window air-conditioning units are provided during the summer months in both bedrooms and the dining/living area for our guest's comfort.
The home features two bedrooms, both with king beds, with bathrooms attached suite-style. The beds made with high-end linens, blackout blinds, bedside device chargers, memory foam mattresses and down-free pillows and comforters provide the perfect environment for a great night's sleep. Both bedrooms have cedar-lined closets - the front Master bedroom is quite large. Luggage racks, hangers and an iron/full-size ironing board are included for your convenience.
One bathroom contains a standard bathtub and the other a slightly-raised step-in shower. The home is not handicap accessible as it requires three steps to get in the front door and four in the back.
In the living room, the TV can be used to stream from your devices through the home's wifi. The fireplace is not currently set up to burn wood.
The dining room seats 8 people comfortably to accommodate large dinner parties. The home has been used to entertain members of the New Mexico Legislature, as the Capitol building is nearby. Two built- in buffets provide ample room for beverages and serving. A Catellani & Smith Fil de Fer pendant light above the dining room table creates a stunning focal point (and conversation piece) for the perfect dinner party.
The kitchen was updated with all-new stainless steel appliances including a double-oven KitchenAid gas range, refrigerator and Bosch dishwasher. The durable granite counter tops and stainless steel tile back splash create an enjoyable environment for preparing meals. The kitchen is also equipped with a grind-and brew coffeemaker, toaster, blender, hand-mixer, pots/pans and likely everything needed for those who prefer to prepare meals at home.
Although any outdoor renovation is strictly prohibited on a registered historic property, the large front porch is truly the jewel of the home. All of our guests have said relaxing on the front porch was their favorite part of their stay. The landscaping in the front of the home was updated in 2016. The backyard will be renovated in 2019. A gas grill is available upon request.
The city requests all overnight visitors park in the driveway alongside the house, but there is plenty of parking for guests on the street. Parking is not permitted on the side of the street directly in front of the home as it is a bike lane.
