Hale Lana is your own private fully fenced and gated enclave, perfect privacy for two, all to yourselves and steps to the best snorkeling beach. Hear and see the ocean at Hale Lana....at peaceful Kealakekua Bay....a small, very quiet, low key and walkable shoreline community. It is situated among a mix of local style and unique newer homes. It is an ideal retreat for couples or honeymooners. Views and sounds of the waves!
Only steps (a two minute walk) to enter the crystal clear water at the palm lined beach, across the bay from the Captain Cook Monument, for the best snorkeling in the islands! The pristine bay is a protected Marine Preserve providing numerous water activities and spinner dolphin sightings (sometimes surrounding your kayak!) and whales in winter. Hale Lana is removed from noise and traffic and is fully fenced and gated for added privacy.
The super clean home is a superbly crafted tropical style pole and beam house showcasing natural woods, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, Italian floor tile, new tropical furnishings, a ten jet indoor spa tub, and large indoor and outdoor walk-in showers. The high open beam ceilings through-out, the roof cupola, decking and louvred transoms are reminiscent of a boat or 'Noah's Ark', thus the name 'Hale Lana' (translated as floating house). Free secured high speed wireless internet access and free long distance telephone calls connect you to the world from this hidden piece of paradise.
This type of tropical construction, with walls of screened sliding doors, also efficiently allows the balmy breezes and scents of the bay and surrounding plumeria trees to float through. There are ample lanais or garden patio seating to relax in the sun or shade and take in the sounds of the waves and the 360 views of the bay and surrounding pali (mountain). It is easy to let yourself 'hang loose' at Hale Lana!
Please note: former guests mention their pleasant stay in the "studio" rather than the larger one bedroom. We are no longer renting the studio, so guests now have the compound completely to themselves when renting the upstairs.
Water temperatures are pleasant and consistently range from 75 (in Feb) to 82 In late summer.

Grocery stores, shopping and numerous restaurants are a 15 minute drive away. There are many areas to explore on foot such as the old Napo'opo'o Wharf and beach park with old sacred sites. Post offices are also nearby. It is located in the heart of ranches (with nearby rodeo grounds) and coffee and macademia nut farms and mills (with outlet stores) as well as country stores and fruit stands offering locally grown produce. Also nearby are the old painted church (elaborate wall murals), Hawaiian Ethnobotanical Garden and a wounderful ornate Buddhist temple open to visitors. The Historic Place of Refuge (featuring Hawaiian cultural displays, the old royal canoe landing and walls dating from the 1500's, picnic areas, whale watching and unobstructed sunsets and great snorkeling) is three miles to the south. Ke'ei, a white sand crescent shaped and shady surfing beach (and home to many visible sea turtles) is a short drive or hike away. Hale Lana is conveniently located to 'downtown' Kailua-Kona. A very quiet area free of the loud and invasive Coqui frog.

Why the Owner Chose Captain Cook, HI, USA:
Kealakekua Bay is a very small, extremely quiet and low-key community providing the best of historic Hawaii and a pristine Marine Reserve all just steps away. My family has lived in Hawaii for more than 60 years and this is truely one of the most beautiful and unspoiled spots to live in or visit. I was fortunate to obtain a large double lot in the community many years ago. And then several years ago was able to build a custom home with the help of excellent boat builder craftsmen with outstanding attention to detail.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Daily swims, just steps from the house, with dolphins and all manner of marine life. On my first visit to snorkel at Kealakekua Bay, and not more than 20 feet away, was a female humpback whale and her calf calmly swimming along! Entrance lock box with key and security code for easy self check in.
