Five bedroom two story beautiful and luxurious, new, beachfront pool house
Welcome to Villa Silva Mare at Ocean Forest, the crown jewel of Sunset Playa Vacation Rentals , a brand new, professionally decorated, beautiful, and luxurious, five bedroom, beachfront pool house, situated next to the Wyndham Rio Mar Resort and overlooking idyllic Las Picuas beach in Rio Grande.
From the first moment you enter the house, you will be captivated by all the attention to detail in making Silva Mare, one of Puerto Rico's best and most luxurious beachfront vacation rentals. Everything has been selected of the utmost quality to work in harmony with its natural setting, yet keeping it true to its relaxed beach nature.
Silva Mare is located in Rio Grande, on the northeast side of Puerto Rico, next to Rio Mar resort in a secure, gated, residential complex called Ocean Forest . It will take you only about 30 minutes to get there from Puerto Rico's main airport, Luis Muñoz Marin International,
Silva Mare is completely beachfront with direct access to beautiful Las Picuas Beach thru a private gate.
Also, Silva Mare has two floors. On the upper level there are two masters with king beds and ensuite bathrooms, each with its own private terrace with magical views of the ocean, beach and pool. One of them also has a second terrace with grand views of El Yunque National Rainforest, therefore the name of the complex , Ocean Forest.
The first floor has 3 bedrooms and 2,5 baths. These are distributed as you enter the house as follows:
1 To the right, a bedroom with queen bed and ensuite bathroom
2 To the left, one bedroom has 2 sets of bunk beds sleeping 4, and a Jack and Jill bathroom connecting this to another bedroom with queen bed.
Silva Mare can comfortably accommodate 12 people in total so is perfect for larger groups or extended family gatherings.
All rooms and common areas have ac. However, opening the doors and windows create such wonderful cross ventilation, along with the soothing sound of the waves, that you will hardly want to turn them on.
We also have free high speed wireless internet and cable tv.
Downstairs, you will find a large size kitchen with island and everything you might need to cook a gourmet meal.
The kitchen, dining room and family share an open concept layout with unbelievable views of the terrace, pool, and beach. The family room also has a large flat screen tv for all the family to watch your favorite movies or games.
Multiple french doors open from here to the terrace and pool.
This area is furnished with large comfortable furniture for you to unwind after your busy beach or exploring days.
Villa Silva mare is also equipped with back up power generator and water cistern, very important in the tropics for uninterrupted power and water after tropical systems.
Finally, there is an outdoor half bath, grill, and exterior shower.
Silva Mare provides a superb setting for a wonderful beach vacation. However, it also provides a great base to explore Puerto Rico.
Just a short walk away lies The Wyndham Rio Mar Resort. It has two beautiful golf courses, restaurants, bar, casino and spa.
In addition, El Yunque National rainforest is only 10 minutes away by car. This is a must visit.
Such is also Fajardo, where you can take a boat excursion to the enchanting eastern islands of Puerto Rico.
Fajardo too, has one of the few bioluminescent bays in the world. This makes for a great night excursion.
Just 5 minutes away is Hacienda Carabalí. They give horse and atm tours, have a go kart track, and a good restaurant with beautiful views of the coast.
For avid golfers, we have three great golf courses to play , all within a 20 minute drive. These are RioMar, Bahia, and Conquistador.
A trip to San Juan is also mandatory. Mingle thru the cobblestone streets, check out the majestic castles, do a little shopping, and then relax in one of its many high quality restaurants. There are also plenty of nearby excellent restaurants when you do not feel like cooking. We will provide you a list of these as well of a few restaurants in San Juan worthy of the short trek.
Finally, we are here to serve you and can arrange anything from daily housekeeping, cook, butler and or private excursions. We can also prestock the kitchen with whatever items you want. Just give us your wish list and we are on it!

About Jose Rodriguez
I am a physician. I love the beach and bought my first property in Fajardo ( VRBO 567112) 4 years ago for our physician group to stay while on call in the local hospital. We tested the water by renting it out and the success was so overwhelming that we created Sunset Playa LLC, a company dedicated on affordable luxury beachfront vacation rentals. Since then , we have added our St Regis Bahia Beach property ( VRBO 698205) and now this, my favorite of them all.
Jose Rodriguez purchased this House in 2014
Why Jose Rodriguez chose Zarzal
I bought this property because I fell in love with the location, a gated secure complex in front of a beautiful beach which I truly believe is one of Puerto Rico's best kept secrets.
What makes this House unique
The second you cross the main entrance, you will fall in love with the view of the beach and the well appointed interior of the house. The house design was for it to enjoy the views in a comfortable, relaxed but luxurious setting.

Fantastic, Relaxing, Beautiful.
I was part of a group of 7 that stayed here for a week in March. House is absolutely beautiful! We had booked last April and when the hurricanes came through we contemplated cancelling, but I'm so glad we didn't.
It was so nice for everyone to have their own space (bedroom and bathroom), and we especially appreciated the bathroom outside near the pool. Kitchen and all appliances worked great too.
Jose and Fernando we're wonderful and responded quickly to all my emails, texts and phone calls.
I would definitely stay here again!
Thank you for your excellent review.
We sure are glad that you did not cancel and had the opportunity to visit Silva Mare.
Indeed, Puerto Rico is way ahead in its recovery after hurricane Maria. Hope to have you back soon.
This is the best vacation home we have ever rented!! We can't wait to stay here again. The house is exactly as beautiful and perfect as it looks. SO well appointed - they have thought of everything from beach chairs to bug spray to hair dryers. We had 5 adults and 2 children, and could have comfortably fit another family of 4. Jose and Fernando were great to work with from start to finish. The power went out the second night of our stay, and Fernando called back within 5 minutes at 11.30 pm to help us get the generator on. The power came back on a few days later, so it will be all set for your stay!
I couldn't disagree with the other negative review more. The generator does have a hum, like a loud fan, but really not disruptive. They were lucky to have a generator at all, and being in PR for "relief" work should understand the situation with the power. The ocean outside the beach is also lovely, we went in everyday with our 7 year old and never had a problem with strong currents. If you walk down the beach as well, there is a wide area that has very gentle waves that would be fine for toddlers. The ocean is different everyday dependent on weather, so complaining about the ocean currents is like renting a ski house and writing a negative review about the snow conditions.
Nice home, but not a great experience
This is a nice vacation home, but there were problems with the water, power, etc. (No water pressure or hot water on the first day, the power was out later because the generator wasn’t refilled, the smoke alarm beeped at night, and we were advised to not drink the tap water because it was from a cistern that hadn’t been used since September.)
The house is on the beach, but with the sand fleas and strong current, we left and went to Fajardo instead. The generator is pretty loud, so don’t expect to hear the sound of the ocean by the pool.
The traffic lights in many areas are not working yet, so driving in Puerto Rico is a bit chaotic. I would recommend waiting until the power is back to be safe. Also, although it’s advertised as a gated community, the gate remains unlocked because of the power shortage.
This group were our first guests at Villa Silva Mare after hurricane Maria. At the time of their visit in December, we had no electricity. Guests knew this, but insisted on booking since they were coming to Puerto Rico to aid in the relief efforts. In that scenario, we allowed them to book and gave them our gratitude and a significant discount.
Since then, we have had all utilities reestablished in addition to internet connection which had been lost. All nearby businesses and restaurants have reopened and the beach is as nice as ever.
In regards to the issues that the guest reports;
1 Electricity- guest knew ahead of time that we were on generator and accepted booking as such with discount. Generator ran beautifully for the whole week, just needing an hour off to refuel.
2 Water pressure/heat- Guest notified us the night that she came in of low water pressure and tepid water. Next morning our technician
fixed everything within a couple of hours.
3 Gated community- This has always been a gated community. Only difference was that we had to manually open and close gate during guest visit due to lack of electricity.
4 Sop lights- Now that electricity has come back, most are working fine.
5 Beeping smoke detector- One of the detectors started beeping the day after guest arrival. She notified my assistant, who proceded to immediately
change the battery with problem solved.
6 Drinking water- Water is fine to drink. In fact, Rio Grande's water is one of the best in PR. However, my assistant , as a precautionary
measure after the major hurricane, advised guest to drink bottled water
and she got upset because she had not planned on buying water.
Paradise in Rio Grande
This house met and surpassed our expectations. I thought it would be a hassle to get there from San Juan airport, but that wasn't the case. Directions were clear and the roads leading up to it were paved. Fernando let us in the gate and provided the necessary instructions on entry and security. The house was clean and everything in its place. He went over the entire house inside and out.
After a long day of travel, the pool was very appealing but the only ones using the pool that evening were 6 year old twins while everyone else literally hung out by the pool and took advantage of its amenities. We ordered dinner for 8 at Don Pepe's ate indoors and the meal was delicious.
Prior to going to the house after the airport, a group went to Econo supermarket off 26 before route 3 to buy food for the next few days. This place had everything. We were well stocked with drinks and snacks and our sincere thanks to the previous occupants who left some Medallas and Coronas in the fridge.
The beach was inviting and conducive to jogging in the morning. We planned our days carefully and visited Luquillo beach, Old San Juan and the surrounding areas in Rio Grande. We visited the kiosks by Luquillo and had an exquisite dinner at La Parrilla. Even the casino at the Wyndham was lots of fun, but not more fun than winning. Word of advice - don't even think of staying here without a rental car. We had 2 cars to accommodate 8 of us and we put in plenty of miles.
I can repeat myself and reiterate the many comments left by others, but this house was everything advertised. Dr. Jose and Fernando are very attentive and take pride in the upkeep, appearance and maintenance of the house. We are so happy that the house or its surrounding property didn't sustain any damage during hurricanes Irma and Jose. We will definitely return in the very near future.
Muchas gracias for a wonderful experience.
This house is absolutely beautiful. The bedrooms were spacious and clean. The home is located right on the beach, so the views are amazing. The neighborhood is safe, and the home is only a short 30-45 min drive from San Juan airport. I cannot wait to return to this home on my next trip to PR.
Thank you very much for your great review!
After having gone thru hurricane María, I needed it.
We were very lucky in that the house had minimal damage
with only a couple of broken exterior fixures .
We should be ready to go soon when we get electricity services reinstated.
Wonderful, relaxing stay
Everything was functional and up to date. I enjoyed the back yard the most! Beautiful in ground pool, gas grill, and more than enough lounge furniture for my family, with the beautiful beach and sand as my background!
The only issue was no food places delivered. I had to take an $37 (there& back) Uber to Dominos and we went grocery shopping. Other than that no complaints.
Jose, Thank you for making my annual family vacation a success! They loved the house and had a great time.
