About the property

Situated just 3km from the chic town of Martina Franca

Welcome to the real Italy...

This 18th century traditional farmhouse has beautifully renovated preserving all the original features and incredible workmanship from years before.

The exposed stonework and unique coned roofs makes staying in this trullo a very special experience.

Situated just a few kilometres from the chic town of Martina Franca (city of festivals) you can enjoy strolling around the historical centre, coffee in one of the lovely cafes or enjoy dining in one of the excellent restaurants where fresh local produce are served at very reasonable prices.

In the summer months the town is busy with Italians who come to enjoy one of the many festivals which are held in the town.

Street entertainment, music and chic cafes keep the town busy until the early hours of the morning where you can enjoy real Italian life.

Just 3km drive into the pretty countryside of Martina Franca Trullo Susanna is situated.

The trullo is set privately however it is not isolated and is situated on a private road so you will not be disturbed by passing traffic.

Private electric gates lead you into the well maintained garden where there is a vegetable garden, fruit trees and of course the famous olive trees which are known to this region.

The outside area has been designed for outside living in the summer months.

Comfortable double sunbeds are around the pool area where you can relax after cooling down in the private pool and the tiled stone gazebo provides shade from the summer sun.

The pool is well maintained and cleaned early in the morning to ensure you are not disturbed.

As the pool is now heated this means you will get full use of the pool during your stay.

Evenings can be spent cooking wonderful fresh local produce on the barbecue, sampling the world famous local wine and relaxing under the stars.

Entering the trullo the exposed stonework, cones and arches are quite breathtaking. The spacious living/dining area has been tastefully decorated in keeping with the style of trullo and the log burning open fire creates a cosy atmosphere in the cooler months.

The new stone built kitchen is fully equipped if you prefer to cook at the trullo.

There is a full size dishwasher, coffee machine with coffee pods and large fridge freezer.

The double bedroom is situated in the original cones of the trullo and is a very special place to sleep. There is ample hanging and drawer space and the pretty mosquito net, candles and soft lighting creates a romantic atmosphere.

There is a further spacious twin room which has been designed by a local artist Anna Le Neve.

The living room has a bed sofa should you be a party of 5 or 6 people.

Full wi-fi is available here in all the rooms of the trullo and the outside patio area.

Why Susan Gardner chose Apulia

I viewed many properties in the area however when I saw Trullo Susanna I immediately knew I would love to purchase it. This property ticked all the boxes for me, off the main country road, other houses close enough so you do not feel isolated however you still have privacy as the garden and pool are not overlooked.

The town of Martina Franca is simply beautiful with the baroque architecture, cafes, Italian culture and endless festivals in the summer months.

In the trullo I love all the exposed stonework and how fresh it feels in the summer months.

I have many happy memories of holidays at Trullo Susanna with friends and family and now it is a rental property that enjoyment can be passed onto many more people, please read the reviews and you can see what people thoughts are.

Exploring this beautiful area:

There is so much to do and see in this unspoilt part of Italy.

The trullo is just 3km from the beautiful, chic, baroque town of Martina Franca.

In the summer months the town is full of activity.

The city is known as the 'citta del festival', the city of festivals.

The most famous being the musical festival, which attracts people from worldwide in the last 2 weeks of July.

http://www.festivaldellavalleditria.it/

Martina Franca has many excellent restaurants, cafes and for the keen shopper hours can be lost weaving your way through the many designer boutiques.

Surrounded by pretty hilltop town with enchanting historic centres and beautiful piazzas I would recommend you visit: Cisternino, Locorotondo, Ostuni (The White City), Monopoli, Pulignano al mare, Conversano.

Matera, Lecce and Gallipoli are a little further away but undoubtedly worth the drive.

Miles of clean, white, award winning, sandy beaches can be found on the Ionian coastline, just 30 minutes from the trullo.

Dining out here is a pleasure. Fresh seafood, locally grown fruit and vegetables and tender meat dishes all at a very reasonable price.

Local Puglian wine is now known all over the world, you can have the pleasure of sampling this at local prices.

If you wish to visit the wine museum in Alberobello and sample the wines I can organise this for.

You could also spend a morning seeing the famous olive oil of Puglian being made or the wide range of local cheeses.

Trulli magical!

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful week! The magic all began when the gates to Trullo Susanna slid open and we glided in to our very own slice of Puglia. Everything was perfect: the pool, the interior of the trullo, the setting, the peace and tranquillity - all together conspiring to lock us into what became a most memorable holiday. So many wonderful places to visit: Polignano a Mare, Alberobella, Martina Franca, Ostuni, Locorotondo, Matera and many more, all within driving distance and each with a charm of its own, then returning to our own bit of heaven for a dip in the pool and an evening of beautiful Puglian food. Susan is the perfect hostess having created this haven and providing a most generous welcome pack and imparting her vast knowledge of the area. Her love of the region is tangible and contagious. Reading previous reviews it seems all the superlatives have been used up so we have borrowed a South African word to sum up Trullo Susanna: buitenverwachting (beyond expectations). It trulli was

Just wish we could have stayed longer!

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful two-week holiday! The house and pool are lovely and Susan could not be more welcoming and informative. All of her recommendations were spot on! Susan takes a lot of pride in the property and providing guests with great service and it shows. Comfy beds, kitchen with all of the necessary equipment, great brick barbecue and lovely edible provisions to greet you on day one. Of course, the pool is a highlight as well. And, it is in easy drive of many wonderful cities.

Make sure you definitely go into the centre of Martina Franca and do not judge the city by the bits you see when you first drive to the trullo. "Centro" is wonderful and worth seeing both in the day time and evening. We highly recommend both Pizzeria Ricci (great pizza and fun to sit in the middle of the square and watch the Martina France night life) and Terra Terra - a couple of minutes walk from the main square with wonderful cocktails and food.

If you are a runner or enjoy bike riding, turn left when you come of out of the property drive and you have all kinds of options. While the country roads are narrow, there is not much traffic and drivers were quite respectful of runners and cyclists. The Bosco delle Pianelle Nature reserve is also very nice and only a few minutes drive away.

The Ionian Sea beaches are fabulous. We set the satnav to "Lido Silvana" and headed east from there - miles of lovely beaches from which to choose.

If you go to the Adriatic driving south on the coast and are anywhere around Torre Canne e Savelletri, definitely eat at Alba Chiara. The grilled mixed seafood and the stuffed pasta were wonderful as were the mussels.

In terms of cities, Cisternino, Locorotondo, Ostuni, Alberobello and so many more! Lecce is definitely worth the drive! We ate some lunchtime Italian "tapas" at Mama Elvira in Lecce and would definitely eat there again.

So, it case it was not already obvious, we loved the house and the area - both near and further afield. You too should go to Puglia and stay at Trullo Suzannah!

Susan has created a lovely little Italian haven down a country road outside Martina Franca

  • 5 of 5

A very well-maintained Trullo house. The main bedroom is the trullo and the rest of the house is built around it. It has a lovely terrace overlooking the small pool, and a well equipped kitchen. The house is so cool no air-conditioning was needed even during an August heatwave

Owner's Response: Thank you Daniel, loved having you all here. Yes the trulli are amazingly cool considering the heatwave we have had this year, air conditioning just isn't required as you said. It was my pleasure to have met you, Caro, Max and Eva. Will let you know when I am in London! Take care Susan

Holiday in June

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time in Susan's trulli which was well located, well equipped and spotless. Susan is an excellent host - nothing was too much trouble, she always went the extra mile and always answered our queries immediately. It was a lovely surprise to open the fridge and find so many delicious goodies, not to mention the huge homemade cherry tart!! We thoroughly enjoyed the pool and the tranquility of the place. What more can I say! I would certainly recommend it.

A relaxing month

  • 5 of 5

We have returned from a month at Trulli Susana which we found very relaxing. The property was exactly as described and was maintained to a very high standard and spotlessly clean.

As we were at the Trulli for a month we visited many restaurants, some local others further afield, and found them all very good. It would be difficult to choose a favourite. We visited the Rendezvous, in Martina Franca, several times for breakfast and by the end of our vacation we felt like members of the family.

There is plenty to see and do in the region, beautiful beaches, wonderful churches and museums, wine tasting and superb scenery.

My husband and I could not praise Susan highly enough. She was a great hostess. Nothing was to much trouble for her. Any little problems were dealt with immediately and with a smile. As our Italian is very limited Susan kindly booked several restaurants on our behalf and organised for a local cook to prepare a typical evening meal for ourselves and friends. The meal was wonderful and I would recommend anyone staying at the Trulli to try this experience.

There is a supermarket in nearby Martina Franca that has everything that you might need and there is also a very good weekly market.

Although our weather was disappointing (it was April!) it did not spoil our time in Puglia and would recommend this area to friends and family. (Both friends and family joined us during our stay).

We left Puglia feeling relaxed and looking forward to a return visit. We also feel that we have made a good friend in Susan.

Highly recommend Trullo Susanna

  • 5 of 5

We spent a family holiday at Trullo Susanna in July, highly recommend this trullo when you are staying in Puglia. We are a family of 4, our children are 5 and 9. Immaculately clean when we arrived, loved the welcome pack Susan had left us. She also met us personally and was always available when we stayed there. The trullo is more spacious than you see from the pictures. Pretty details everywhere and the bedrooms are amazing. The trullo was always cool inside even when it was hot outside, they are a great design.

Great the pool is right in front of patio area, we could watch the girls while we enjoyed a glass of wine on the patio. As the director of a company I was delighted the wifi worked so well as at times I did have to work.

We loved being close to Martina Franca, few minutes drive and you are there. This was our favourite town in the area (however they are all amazing) and the music festival was an experience we will not forget. Susan organised the tickets for us. She also organised someone to cook at the trullo for us. We were still eating the food the next day!

We have already booked to return in 2017, great property.
