Property description

A romantic getaway for couples or an affordable holiday for small families, this self-catering property is available year round and located in one of the most beautiful villages of France. Nestled in the tiny hillside village of Beynac, La Petite Maison invokes a timeless sense of charm and beauty. Catch a glimpse of medieval life in this 500-year-old home and explore the most scenic and breathtaking villages of Southwest France. Unlike many homes listed under Beynac in the HomeAway directory, La Petite Maison enjoys a central location within the actual village.

Amenities include:

• Central village setting just steps away from bakery, grocery store, restaurants, ATM, post office, galleries, hairdresser, and pharmacy

• Two romantic master bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, one with a four-poster antique colonial bed, the other in the style of Louis XV

• Fully modern bathrooms fitted with spa shower cabins, perfect for helping you relax after a busy day of sightseeing

• Fully equipped kitchen to make dining in easy and stress free

• High ceilings with large chestnut wood beams in the living/dining room

Further Details Indoors:
La Petite Maison is one of the most picturesque homes in Beynac. Situated on a cobbled footpath leading to the Chateau, your medieval adventure awaits. Step inside into a quiet retreat and enjoy the charm of its thick stone walls and heavy chestnut timbers. Many of its furnishings date back to the 1700’s including the dining table and buffet, both made of walnut in the local Perigordian style.

No one will have to draw straws for the kid’s bedroom because this cottage has two full sized master suites each with its own private ensuite bathroom. A common living area with the sitting room and dining area separates the bedrooms above and below. The living room boasts a massive stone fireplace, antique copper, and leather furniture, which accentuates the comfort and enjoyment of staying in your own place.

La Petite Maison is perfect for couples and small families. With two master bedrooms, it sleeps 4 very comfortably but may also sleep 1 additional guest in a single bed in the upstairs bedroom.

The village of Beynac consists of a cluster of golden-stone houses beneath a dramatic 500 foot cliff. Perched at the top stands the 12th century Chateau Beynac, rising from the sheer cliff face along the most historic and scenic section of the Dordogne River. With its formidable Chateau, rows of charming houses, and the gentle river below, the setting is simply captivating. La Petite Masion makes for an ideal home base for visiting all the picturesque villages in the Perigord Noir, including Domme, La Roque-Gageac, Castelnaud, Monpazier, and Sarlat, the most historically preserved medieval city in all of France.??

Beynac castle is renowned for being one of the best preserved medieval castles in France. It was painstakingly restored last century using only the tools of the medieval craftsman. From the castle terrace, the chateaux of Marqueyssac, Fayrac, and Castelnaud are all within view across the verdant tapestry of this beautiful valley.

Nowhere have we found a more tranquil, beautiful, and romantic setting than here in the Dordogne. Whether you are exploring fairy tale castles, strolling a local market, wandering through cobblestone streets, studying prehistoric cave art, or simply taking in the unspoiled countryside, you will come to understand why this is one of the most endearing regions in all of Europe. Designated by the French government as one of the Most Beautiful Villages of France, Beynac never fails to impress.

Further Details Outdoors: Medieval stone house, fully renovated. La Petite Maison is pictured in a Beynac postcard as one of the beautiful homes on the path to the Chateau. Petite Maison is so photogenic, you'll find countless visitors stopping to take a photo of it on their way to or from the castle

The Dordogne, or the Périgord as it is known by the French, is one of the most beautiful regions in France. The Périgord Noir, which derives its name from the black truffles found here and its walnuts, is to be found in the triangle of Sarlat, Domme and Les Eyzies, cut through by the Dordogne and Vézère rivers. The Périgord Noir is a stunning mixture of prehistoric caves hidden in tree-covered valleys and medieval castles dating from the 100 years war. You cannot fail to be impressed by the number and variety of castles that there are to visit, as well as the multitude of prehistoric cave dwellings and underground sites. The Périgord Noir is also famous for its cuisine. You can expect some form of duck on every menu, either the famous duck or goose liver (foie gras) or “confit de canard” or the lighter “magret de canard”. You should try the truffles, whose farming grounds are kept a very close secret by the truffle hunters, and also the cèpes, a very tasty form of mushroom.

Other Activities: Exploring Chateaux and canoeing the Dordogne River

Owner info

Year Purchased: 2006

About the owner: We are avid Francophiles and love to travel in Europe. We've been coming to Beynac since 1997 and immediately felt a sense of connection to this charming little village in this beautiful region of France. Some years we visited several times. Eventually, we found a place of our own. This is more than a vacation rental to us, it's a second home.

Why the Owner Chose Beynac-et-Cazenac, Dordogne, France:
Beynac feels like home to us. Like a story book village lost in time that we had only read or dreamed about, it deserves its designation as Most Beautiful Village of France.

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
La Petite Maison enjoys a central village location. Located on a footpath leading up the chateau but far enough to be off the main road and away from street noise. Just steps away are the best restaurants in the village, a snack shop, antique shop, gift shops, bakery, grocer, post office, pharmacy and ATM.
