Our secluded two story mountain home is private, on 6 acres of wooded land. It backs up to the Nantahala forest and includes 2 ponds and a small creek. At a 3500 foot elevation, (4 wheel drive is not necessary) you will love those cool mountain mornings. Relax on our large wooden deck or enjoy a fire in the wood burning fireplace or outside fire pit. At 2000 square feet, it is spacious enough to accommodate the whole family. Watch for the wild turkeys, hummingbirds, deer, bears and coyotes.
There are 2 large king bedrooms and another large bedroom with 2 double beds. Two families traveling together can both enjoy their own 'master bedroom'. You have a fully equipped kitchen, laundry room, living room with stone fireplace, dining room and loft. Beautiful tongue and groove walls and ceilings make you feel that you are really in the mountains.
Discover Franklin, a picturesque village in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Appalachian Trail is here as are breweries, outfitters, shops and restaurants. Franklin is known as the gem mining capital of the world. Panning for gems is a popular pastime. The Whistle Stop mall is a great source for antiques. Drive through the Cullasaja Gorge to the lovely town of Highlands. Stop and walk to many waterfalls on your way. Hiking, white water rafting, kayaking, tubing, canoeing are short destinations that many love. The Biltmore House in the cultural city of Asheville is only about an hour and a half drive.

About Leisa Brawley
We had this home built when our two boys were young. It gave us the opportunity to stay close as a family. Coming from South Florida, we wanted our children to see the season changes, and snow. They were able to learn to ski and snowboard and hike in the beautiful mountains. Our boys have families of their own now, and they still love to spend time at our home in the mountains. One of them got married on the property. There is a small photo of the wedding in the house.
Leisa Brawley purchased this House in 1998
Why Leisa Brawley chose Ellijay
We started vacationing in North Carolina in the early 1990's and loved it. We rented vacation homes and dreamed of having our own that we could make comfortable for our family. The proximity to our home in South Florida allows us to drive in one day.
What makes this House unique
We love this property for the feeling of getting away from it all. Sitting on the deck makes us feel like we are in a treehouse. It's quiet and at night the stars are so close and bright.

Exactly what we were looking for. Cute, clean, simple. Stocked kitchen. Place to cook food over a fire. Just bring clothes and food!
everything was awesome
awesome and memorable
Clean, open, big front porch. There are neighbors close by but house is set back and hidden by trees
House is 20-25 minutes off the highway running between Franklin and Highlands, NC. Glad I had a 4 wheel drive Jeep as the last 3.5 miles is on a steep, unpaved, twisting, single lane road. Had an issue with no running water when we first arrived but resolved with a phone call to owner. Great place to stay to stage some day hikes to several waterfalls and the Bartram trail. Close enough to go either Franklin, NC or Highlands, NC for shopping or finding a nice restaurant for lunch or dinner. Perhaps a little dated with decor and some of the cooking utensils and cookware have seen better days. Not sure about the backhoe parked behind the house? Would we stay again? Most likely, but we have a tendency to try new places each time we go back to the area.
Wonderfull home to relax
Thank you for sharing your home with us. We really enjoyed the property it was so peacefull and enjoyed the deer visting in the morning and the hummingbirds comming up to the feeders on the porch. Cant wsit to visit again next year.
The most comfortable house I ever stayed in
If you're looking for a remote and secluded getaway, this house is a wonderful choice. I was as comfortable in this house as I am in my own. Extremely clean & pristine, all the amenities of home, so well taken care of. No shortcuts here. This is truly someone's home.
Note: As the Homeaway description says, this home is extremely secluded and off the beaten path, literally. It is about six miles "up" from route 64, and the last three miles of dirt road are a definite adventure. As a "nervous" driver, it took some getting used to.
But oh, what a splendid, peaceful, mountainside, hideaway once I made it up the mountain! Just Perfect!
Very comfortable, beautiful setting. Perfect for a get-away.
