About Leisa Brawley
We had this home built when our two boys were young. It gave us the opportunity to stay close as a family. Coming from South Florida, we wanted our children to see the season changes, and snow. They were able to learn to ski and snowboard and hike in the beautiful mountains. Our boys have families of their own now, and they still love to spend time at our home in the mountains. One of them got married on the property. There is a small photo of the wedding in the house.
Leisa Brawley purchased this House in 1998
Why Leisa Brawley chose Franklin
We started vacationing in North Carolina in the early 1990's and loved it. We rented vacation homes and dreamed of having our own that we could make comfortable for our family. The proximity to our home in South Florida allows us to drive in one day.
What makes this House unique
We love this property for the feeling of getting away from it all. Sitting on the deck makes us feel like we are in a treehouse. It's quiet and at night the stars are so close and bright.

The house was beautiful and more than enough room for our family. Would definitely recommend but don't arrive at night up the winding road.
I’m so glad you enjoyed the house! I do recommend that our guests arrive before dark the first time. Although the mountains are dark, it makes the night sky so beautiful.
Memorial Day Weekend - Great Property Great Hosts
Serenity. Off the beaten path in between Highlands and Franklin.
First of all I would like to thank Leisa for being a wonderful host. She replied immediately to my booking request and was extremely friendly and helpful. She provided all the details as well as suggestions for activities and places to visit. While arriving during the day is recommended, we arrived after dark and had no problems. The house was spotless and the kitchen had everything we needed (of course bring your own food). Note: We forgot ice and were very happy to find a bunch of ice trays in the cabinet next to the fridge. We were also very happy to find that Verizon and AT&T had no service on the property. A true escape (there is wifi and we were able to make calls/check email/text from our phones using that if needed or wanted). There is also a landline and Satellite TV.
Description of the road to the property: There are two access points/entrances to reach the address. Both are fun with plenty of switchbacks! Disclaimer, I have 4wd pickup truck and am used to driving dirt roads. While I did use 4wd, under normal conditions without snow or some sort of a monsoon, a 2wd vehicle should have no trouble handling these dirt/limestone roads. Just keep up the momentum on some of the steep inclines. Having two access points was very convenient. On one side you have easy access to Highlands Rd., the main thoroughfare between Highlands and Franklin. On the Other side, we could easily access backroads to Glenville lake and Cashiers.
Description of the property: The house sits atop a steep driveway off the access road on an area cut into the side of the ridge. It is surrounded by a thick, lush forest and you feel as if you are in the canopy of the trees below. There are a few other properties on the access road in (nice to know there are some people nearby), however, you have absolute privacy at this house.
I wanted to address one comment about the backhoe tucked behind the house. This is a fair comment and honest feedback by commenters is always appreciated. For those who may not be as familiar with mountain homes, it is not uncommon for 2wd vehicles to chew up a driveway by spinning their wheels, making it harder for the next visitors, and expensive for owners to maintain. A tractor of some sort is a necessity, a luxury, and is very practical for maintaining driveways to keep the property accessible. This is how I knew the house was a true mountain property!
Thank you for the great review Jay. I appreciate your kind words and also clearing up the reason why we have a backhoe : ) As you mentioned, 4WD is not necessary, we have been driving minivan to our home for many years. Thank you for taking such good care of our home and hope to see you another time!
Our family had a great time celebrating our daughter’s graduation from WCU and Mother’s Day. We were able to bring our dogs. The house fit our family needs. We enjoyed walking to the ponds and for the athletic members they enjoyed their jog.
Beautiful home in a beautiful setting!!
Evacuated from Wilmington to escape Florence. Great house, had everything our family of 5 needed. Leeza was very flexible as we extended our stay twice due to storm,
Mountain Home Away From Home
Wonderful secluded home in the Mountains! Quiet, spacious, and all set up to move in. We brought our own food and filled the refrigerator and felt like being home. We enjoyed the fresh mountain air and breezes! Our Golden-Doodle enjoyed the walks on gravel dirt roads and the sounds of flowing mountain creek water. Met friendly neighbors. 🔥 Firepit enjoyed and s’mores! Home completely furnished and enjoyed by family! We certainly hope to get an opportunity to return again. Owner made sure all was ready to arrive and relax!
Beautiful Home in the mountains
This is NOT a cabin in the woods but rather a luxurious home. Everything is well thought out and everything you need is there. The road to the house is an adventure in itself and first impression is WHY would you build here, but it only added to the adventure and helped make memories that will last a life time. The owners were wonderful, I'd highly recommend renting here.
Thank you! I’m so happy you enjoyed your trip! We love this location because the elevation gives us cooler weather and coming from Florida, we really look forward to that. When we arrive in Franklin, it feels like an exciting destination! A vacation! A time to be a family.
