This is a small, quiet holiday cottage complex, on the outskirts of the village of Chideock, set in a hollow by Winniford Stream and surrounded by rolling farmland. A mile inland off the main road, it is quiet and peaceful but also a convenient spot from which to explore the Jurassic Coast, including the nearby town of Lyme Regis and other places of interest in Dorset, Devon and Somerset. The nearest beach is two miles away, with several other beaches within easy reach by car. There are many miles of delightful footpaths to explore, including the fine coastal path with its breathtaking views. The spacious and comfortable cottages are located in middle of countryside. There is a large, attractive garden, which is great for relaxing or playing in at any time of day. The garden also houses a games room, which is equipped for all ages from toddler to adult. Japanese food is our speciality. Video is available on www.youtube.com / type in 'hellbarncottages' temporarily.
We stayed at Hell Barn Cottages (Jasmine) this summer and it has been absolutely lovely. The cottage was spacious, really cosy, well equipped, very clean and quiet. We found everything we needed, including bread, butter, cookies, milk and tea upon our arrival, which was a really nice treat. There is a nice garden which is very well looked after.
Our host was very friendly and hospitable, always helpful if we had a question.
The area around the cottage is very lovely, too. We enjoyed the walks in the vicinity (especially the one over Colmer's Hill to the hamlet of Symondsbury).
We will definitely return!
Lovely cottages in very quiet location but close enough to nice beaches, pubs, restaurants and shopping.
We loved our recent stay at Hell Barn cottages. It's in the perfect location and the accommodation, garden and play room are brilliant. We loved returning to our cottage after our days on the beaches. Diana and Shige's Japanese meals are so good we booked twice! Highly recommended!
I can recommend Hell Barn Cottages without reservation. The cottages are extremely well-equipped – eg. a stairgate and a torch – things you wouldn’t normally find in a rented cottage. They are spotless and Diane and Shige even provide a starter pack of provisions.
The gardens are beautiful with furniture for sitting out and play equipment for the children. There is even an indoor games room. It seems to me that they have thought of everything.
Our spaniel was made very welcome too. Diane and Shige are the perfect hosts – helpful and accommodating but unobtrusive too.
As for the area – a week is not long enough to do all the things available in the area. We went for our second visit at the beginning of June, and we will certainly return again next year.
Great accommodation and great hosts. We will definitely return as the place was clean, tidy and absolutely beautiful. We also tried the Japanese food that was amazing. We strongly recommend this place.
Excellent. We booked the studio for one week, and really enjoyed it. Plus points are....quiet rural location, comfortable beds and seats, well supplied kitchen, modern design, good bathroom, very large garden with stream and lots of grass, walk straight out into great countryside, near Bridport and Lyme, excellent hosts. Minus points are....nothing worth mentioning. Make sure you check out the village museum in the Catholic church.
Our cottages are situated in the middle of peaceful, rolling countryside, but are only a mile off the main road. There is a good choice of beaches and miles of coastal walks to explore. The local villages have traditional pubs with good food. The nearby town of Bridport has a lively market twice a week and plenty of shops and cafe/restaurants. There are many interesting places to visit: including Abbotsbury, Lyme Regis, Charmouth, Weymouth and Dorchester. Alternatively you can just relax in our attractive garden and enjoy the peace and quiet.
