Cozy `Ohi`a Kai Cottage is situated in the front of our property in downtown Kapa`a on the beautiful Garden Island of Kaua`i. Ohi`a Kai Cottage is just one block from the beach near downtown Kapa`a. and ideally located to visit all parts of Kauai.

Ohi`a Kai Cottage is a charming hideaway for the budget-conscious traveler. Inside one will find a small living room including full-sized futon couch. Inner doors lead to a small bedroom with queen-size bed, breakfast area, bathroom with shower, and sun room. Amenities include television, cable, VCR and DVD players, Large refrigerator with freezer, coffee maker, dresser, clothes rack, beach mats, towels, sheets, dishes and eating utensils. Soap and shampoo/conditioner provided as courtesy amenities. Lush tropical vegetation surrounds the property, including banana, mango, noni, coconut, bamboo, and panax.

Ohi`a Kai Cottage is a charming hideaway for the budget-conscious traveler looking for a discount. Ideal for a couple or small family. New Serta pillow-top queen mattress in the bedroom and full bed in living room offer privacy and comfort for you and the kids. Pocket doors connect the living room to the bedroom on the left and the 'family room' on the right. Beyond the family room is a small room with full refrigerator and clothes rack as well as the bathroom with shower and assist bars around toilet.

The cottage does not have a full kitchen, but the unit includes a large refrigerator, coffee maker, toaster oven, electric skillet, induction hot plate, dishes and utensils. A propane grill is located on the patio in front of the cottage, and a double porcelain sink is located on the mauka side.

Other amenities include television +cable, turbo WiFi Internet access, iron, ironing board, beach chairs and mats, beach towels, all-cotton linens. Guests in the cottage and the vacation rental house on the property share the laundry room, and access to bogey boards and snorkel gear. Lush tropical vegetation abounds on the property, including banana, mango, noni, papaya, various palms, mock orange and panax.

Two rooms have a/c units; living room, bedroom and family room also have ceiling fans. Bamboo flooring and cotton linens are among the eco-conscious considerations in the cottage. Dogs with well-behaved owners are permitted. A $50 additional pet cleaning fee will apply.

The cottage is situated across from a church parking lot on a side street, close enough to town to be convenient, but far enough away from the main road to not hear any traffic from Kuhio Hwy.

Ohi`a Kai is approximately nine miles from Lihue Airport, a 20-minute drive at non-peak times. Haena State Park, at the end of the road when driving north, is about an hour’s drive, as is Kekaha, the southwestern end of the road. Haena is where you’ll find Ke`e Beach and the trailhead to the spectacular Na Pali Coast trail. Some popular visitor destinations and their approximate driving times include Kealia Beach ½ mile to the north, baby beach ½ mile to the south, toward Lihue and we are one block from the coastal bike multi use bike path . Other popular places to go are: Lydgate Beach Park (10 minutes), Limahuli National Tropical Garden (55 minutes), Kilauea Lighthouse (20 minutes), `Anini Beach (25 minutes), Poipu Beach Park (40 minutes), Kukui Grove Mall (22 minutes), `Opaeka`a Falls (15 minutes), Wailua Falls (30 minutes), and the largest coffee plantation in the USA, Kauai Coffee (35 minutes).

To reach `Ohi`a Kai from Lihue Airport, turn right at the traffic light as you’re leaving the airport. The road becomes Kuhio Highway at the next traffic light. Continue straight for about nine miles. Along the way you will cross the Wailua River, pass the Coconut Marketplace shopping and dining complex on your right, pass two adjacent shopping centers on your left, pass more restaurants on your left, and come to a traffic light in front of a small shopping complex with a Big Save grocery store, U.S. Post Office, and Shell gas station. A few blocks further and you will see a left-turn only lane in front of the Latter Day Saints Church. There is no traffic light here, but you will see the entrance to Pono Kai resort directly to your right and a sign welcoming you to downtown Kapa`a in the grassy area ahead. Turn left onto `Ohia Street. Note that this is a 90° turn. `Ohi`a Kai, clearly marked with green signs, is three houses down, at the end of this short street, just before the gate to a county property.

Park in the spot directly in front of the cottage. If we are not on site when you arrive, we have a lock box on the front door. If you plan to arrive in the evening, contact us prior to your arrival so that we can give you the lock box combination.

The location of `Ohi`a Kai Cottage and Hale is ideal for vacationers, business visitors, and residents seeking short-term housing. "This property is well kept and has all the essentials, including internet and air conditioning which will make you the envy of many people locally who depend on the trade winds to stop you from sweltering on the island. It's a stone's throw away from Kapaa's restaurants and bars and the sea front if you fancy watching the sunrise, or a stroll along the beach. Kapaa itself is excellently situated for amenities on the island and is well situated for seeing everything on the island as it is relatively central. It is also very close to some of the island's best beaches on the Coconut Coast. The owners are extremely friendly, offer prompt customer service, or quick help if you need it (i.e locking your self out in the middle of the night). On several occasions I was delighted to find gifts of fruit that they had sourced from their garden. An excellent property and the best value I could find."

Last but not least, Marianne and Bob are really nice folks who won't hesitate to 'talk story' about things to do on the island. Excellent location - easy walking and parking to many other places in Kapa'a!

I enjoyed stay at this location and found it especially convenient in many ways. My hosts were very gracious and provide both fruit and flowers from their own gardens. Walking and driving-wise, I could not have had a more convenient location.

My only disappointment was in "kitchen options". I stayed a week and wanted to prepare some of my own food. Both "food prep space" and water were available - but those items were in separate places. Those who do not want to do much meal preparation will not be bothered by this.

Fantastic

Great location. Host brought us fruit and flowers and made great recommendations of where to hike and eat etc. . We loved the two a/c units as it was hot and humid during our stay. Bed very comfortable. Within walking distance of many of the things we wanted to do as we didn't have a car. Bus service across the street. When we come back we definitely will stay here again.

Bob was very nice, and prompt with everything.

The place has everything necessary.

It's next door to a city and parks maintenance place which makes it loud, but all in all I enjoyed my stay
