Great little getaway for us!
Wasn’t sure what to expect as you never know what to expect until you see for yourself. Was a nicely furnished, cozy little cabin, preformed log style, dating from the 60s or 70s, that has been updated and modernized somewhat. Kitchen was clean as was the bathroom, although rusty/mineral rich water has a way of staining things pretty quickly, but that doesn’t mean it’s dirty. Just not what us city folk are used to seeing...
Rochon Sands was quiet (and tiny), it’s basically 2 or 3 blocks of cabins on the one main road leading into the provincial park, with a few tiny side roads. No store on sight but Stettler is a short 20 minute hop away. The view from the deck is great, we spent most of our time sitting out there and watching birds and boats and sparkling lights at night.
The only drawbacks are that the cabin is short on bedrooms, and you can’t swim out front as it is a marina and the shoreline is kinda murky looking weeds. Lovely to look at from the deck but not the place you’d want to get wet at. That place is... a short 10 minute walk to Rochon Sands Provincial Park day-use area where the swimming/picnicing is free. Stopping at the Snak Shack for an ice cream cone while walking/driving back makes the trip vastly more enjoyable.
The bedroom situation is fixed by the addition of a bunkhouse just out the back door that has bunk beds, a queen bed and a single bed right above it. Space is a little tight but very comfortable and clean. If getting up for bathroom breaks is a concern, there is a double bed in the TV room, which my wife took advantage of. I slept like a baby in the bunkhouse (as soon as the heat died down at night. Scorching hot when we were there!)
The owner was really nice, was a pleasure dealing with him, and we wouldn‘t hesitate to book and stay there again in the future.
Thanks guys for the great stay!
