About Derrick Peterson
The Notch has been in our family since its birth in 1959. Over the years our family has enjoyed several generations having fun and getting in touch with nature. In Jan, 2015 My Mother, Roni turned the home over to me (Derrick) to continue keeping the home in our family. We will be working on the cabin throughout 2015 and beyond, but we love our rustic cabin so if your looking for a place, on a lake, just to get away and enjoy family, then you have found your home.
Derrick Peterson purchased this Cabin in 1959
Why Derrick Peterson chose Piermont
A great place to get back to nature, quiet, isolated. Forget the stresses of modern life and take a step back to a simpler time.
What makes this Cabin unique
Beautiful views from a cute cottage on Lake Armington in Piermont, New Hampshire. Lake Armington is located approximately 30 miles north of Hanover (home to Dartmouth College). The surrounding area to the Northeast is part of the White Mountain National Forest. A beautiful scenic trip of approximately 22 miles take you to Lincoln NH, a peaceful town, home to Loon mountain Ski Resort and the entrance to Franconia Notch. Great shops and outdoor activities abound in the summer months. If you wish to explore further, continue through Lincoln and you will find the Kancamagus Highway one of Americas most scenic highways. After the drive you will arrive in Conway, and North Conway. A great area of small shops and restaurants. Continue North on Rt. 302 and find yourself in the Heart of the White Mountains, home of Mount Washington, and the presidential range. Breathtaking scenery and plenty of trails to explore. If you are an avid hiker, this is the perfect spot as The Appalachian Trail crosses the area within a half-mile of the cottage! Aside from just soaking up the beautiful views, outdoor amenities include: dock, canoe, and row boat. And if you are an avid angler, Lake Armington is home to many fish species including Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, Smallmouth Bass, Pickerel, and Horned Pout. Perfectly Situated Cabin on Wonderful Lake
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the cabin. The lake was clean and delightful. Having the kayaks right outside the door just made everything better. The cabin itself, while old and not in the best condition, is still more than adequate for a lakeside stay. Tons of towels and pretty much everything you need in a kitchen. We sat on the porch for every meal looking at the water and listening to loons and watching a rabbit, hummingbirds and chipmunks scamper around.
I was surprised to find upon arrival that we could not drink the water. Had we known that in advance, we would have been better prepared. We went out after unpacking and bought a few gallon bottles and the following day, we followed the directions in the house book that led us to a natural spring source of water. Had I been alone I would not have been able to fill the empty bottles in the house and would have had to make several trips. My husband did the heavy lifting.
Our computer, a Mac laptop, was not able to connect to the internet although my smart phone was. My husband was disappointed. Also the TV only worked as a Smart TV so that you had to have subscribed to whatever service you wanted to watch. I didn't care. The DVD and record player didn't work. The absence of a TV, record player and DVD player was not a big deal to me, but we did bring old records and DVD's with us. Some disappointment.
This cabin is for people who love nature and an amazing lake and want to get away from the "things" we get hooked on in our regular lives. I'll try to convince my husband that we don't need those things on vacation so that we can return to Lake Armington.
Relaxing by the water!
We had a great vacation at this quirky little cabin. It was well equipped with anything we needed. The canoe and kayaks were great, and the water wonderful for swimming. We especially enjoyed the wildlife-loons, hummingbirds, rabbits, etc. right at our doorstep. We had an outstanding time at lake Armington!
Loved the location, beautiful lake, kayaking and just sitting in the comfy outside lounge chairs. Great spot for hiking opportunities.
Diamond in the rough, cozy and comfortable on beautiful lake Armington.
This little cabin by the lake was just what the doctor ordered. We had an exceptional week of great weather, family, swimming, fishing, kayaking, barbecuing and s'mores on the campfires. We had the lake to ourselves and everyday brought a new adventure. We are home now but the memories of this vacation will live on forever.
Beautiful Little Piece of Property
The Notch, as the cabin is called, sits on a quiet and beautiful little piece of property right on one of the cleanest lakes in New Hampshire, Lake Armington. The beauty of the lake and the hills across the water invite you to sit on the dock and enjoy the quiet and sunshine of this little secluded property. The cabin is neat and has everything. We enjoyed out stay and felt restored.
