We live in Rochester, New York. Rick works in the financial & administrative area of real estate management and construction, Chuck works as a research scientist. We love to travel and have stayed in hotels, bed & breakfasts and vacation rentals, one in particular in Miami Beach for 20 years. We find vacation rentals are one of our favorite options. We also camped in a small popup with friends for many years. When one of our friends suggested we needed an upgrade we opted to get rid of the wheels and all the setup involved!

Why Rick Runyan & Chuck Heckler chose Lake Placid
We've visited Lake Placid many times over a period of 16 years, spoke about looking at property here and over a year ago began studying the local real estate market. In May 2016 we decided to make a trip and identified five properties of varying types to look at. We saw condos, a fixer upper and two single family homes. We had not at that time committed to buy, just look. On the ride back to Rochester we determined to put in an offer on this house. It met all our needs and with the garage and shop space can be an ideal place to retire in a few years. We purchased directly through the owner and were able to learn a lot about the history of the property. Our house is located behind another larger house on McKinley Street, a feature you find often in Lake Placid. This house was originally built as a guest house in 1929 for visitors of the family in the larger house. Both had driveways off of Middle Street, which was extinguished when the 1932 Olympic facilities were built. Our driveway is a remnant of that street and the street sign still exists at the driveway entry. Descendants of the original builder still live in the front house. From the porch off the master bedroom you can see Mount Marcy, other mountains to the South and West and the Olympic ski jump on clear days.
What makes this House unique
When we travel we like to put away our car and walk or use public transportation once we reach our destination. One of us likes quiet and seclusion and the other needs a village or city street-scape nearby. This property has the best of both. Our neighbors are full time local residents and one of them takes care of our lawn maintenance, snow plowing and other maintenance needs. Restaurants, shops, recreation and public transportation (trolley bus) are all walk-able. The huge wrap around porch is wonderful any time of year and can be accessed from the living room and kitchen. It is enclosed which provides a buffer from the cold and snow in winter as well as a good place to stow our skates, snow shoes and other recreation equipment and has screens at either end to let in fresh air during the other three seasons. The large yard is well landscaped on three sides - during the summer it gives the feeling of being in a clearing in the woods. In winter you can see the Village and Olympic facilities.

well-equipped cottage in a wonderfully convenient location
Pine cottage is in a hard-to-beat location, just off the bottom of Main Street in Lake Placid, with the shortest possible walk to local places to eat like the Farmhouse Grill.
The cottage was nice and clean. The kitchen is well-equipped and has much better utensils and cutlery than one often finds in rental properties. Likewise, the Wi-Fi was great and there are multiple TV's and Netflix. We didn't need to use the garage (which would be great in winter) but appreciated that the cottage has ample off-street parking space. The owners were very responsive and most helpful with check-in instructions and other queries. We would definitely stay here again.

Fantastic digs for two couples or a small family
My wife and I spent four nights between Xmas and New Year 2017 with our adult daughter and her fiancee. We absolutely love Lake Placid and staying in this cottage was so much better than a hotel. Really no comparison. We used the garage for our two vehicles and with sub zero temperatures that was a great benefit. The beds were super comfortable and lots of pillows. The bathroom was clean and functional and the kitchen very well equipped. The kitchen also had plenty of spices, coffee, and other essentials.We cooked a great meal at the cottage and also breakfast and lunches. We had planned to do snow shoeing but the weather made that impractical so we relaxed, read books, did a 1000 piece puzzle, and were cozy, warm, and comfy in our little cottage. The location is one block from Main Street and enabled us to walk to local restaraunts. We would go back in a heartbeat.

Great location and quiet neighborhood
We stayed here during IronMan week and the location was very convenient to the Oval and Mirror Lake. The cottage is clean with updated appliances and there are several restaurants within a very short walking distance. Downtown is also an easy walk. Having a washer and dryer was an especially nice touch! It is also easy to avoid downtown traffic via Wesvalley Rd (w a car) to go shopping to pick up groceries etc.

Cozy house and great location!!
Nice location with a convenient walk to town. Quiet neighborhood in the evening. The house had comfy beds and the kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, dishes etc. Nice washer and dryer which was great to dry out our ski gear. The owners were great to work with and very helpful. We would definitely stay again and recommend it to anyone staying in the area.

A great place for being active or just relaxing. Locals are very fitness oriented. The recreation center at the beach at Mirror Lake has training sessions Tuesday evenings during three seasons for all fitness levels for running, swimming and biking. Anyone is welcome. One of the best guide and tour advisory services as well as equipment rentals in Lake Placid is less than a block away - ADK Cyclery.
