About Cheryl Ann or Lori

Lori and Cheryl Ann are outdoor enthusiasts. Both have traveled extensively and are experienced wilderness campers.

Cheryl Ann and Lori are active in paddling- outrigger, voyageur, dragon boat, sculling, canoeing, kayaking- you name it! They have been married for 9 years and love living in the Nanoose Bay area.

Cheryl Ann or Lori purchased this chalet in 2009

Why Cheryl Ann or Lori chose Nanoose Bay

We have always loved the relaxed lifestyle of Vancouver Island and it was our dream to own property here. This guest house is named in honor of Al Robertson. He was a gentle Aboriginal man who honored nature. Al was an avid hiker and helped us find this location. In memory of Al, we have used 'Red Hawk' as the name for this guest house.

What makes this chalet unique

This property has a perfect location- a couple hundred meters away from a forest reserve- where we can hike for hours. All the lots here are 5 to 10 acres so it is very private. There is much wildlife here- especially deer who love to munch on our garden- but we don't mind. In addition, it is on dead end road so there is virtually no traffic. It feels like a very remote location- yet we are only a 14 min drive to a big shopping complex.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We enjoyed our stay very much. We stayed over Christmas and there were Christmas lights strung throughout the house and a little Christmas tree for us to decorate. There were a ton of hiking trails with waterfalls. Cheryl Ann and Lori were quiet and always there if we needed them. We recommend their little cabin in nanoose bay to anyone!

Loved this place!!!

  • 5 of 5

My mom and I stayed here on our mother/daughter trip and loved it! Lori greeted us when we drove in and was so friendly and helpful. She showed us around the property, both the house and the gym, and explained where we could go walking. The house was clean and felt like a home away from home. I would have stayed longer but it was booked up so we couldn't. I would definitely go back. It was so peaceful, quiet and we enjoyed the small walking trails on the property as well as the ones down the road. From here we went to Cathedral Grove and you could easily continue your trip to Tofino if you wanted to. It's a great location if you want to be out of town with some peace and quiet. I would love to stay here on a personal retreat or something.

Highly recommend; close to Nanaimo yet private home!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at the Redhawk vacation home for two nights with my boyfriend as part of a week-long vacation on Vancouver Island. Location was great - it was within 45 minutes of Horne Lake Caves, where we did a caving excursion, as well as 20 minutes away from Departure Bay in Nanaimo, where we caught our ferry. Restaurants were approximately 10 minutes away. The home was close to what we needed, but tucked away in the woods, so it still felt private. The owners were extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful. The home was peaceful, very clean, and had great amenities, including a washer and dryer, which was a definite plus after a week of vacationing. Beds and sheets were comfortable and clean. The owners left a welcome snack basket which was much appreciated! In terms of value, the pricing was quite good compared to other places we had stayed at throughout the week. I would highly recommend staying at Redhawk vacation home, and would stay again in the future! :)

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for the compliments. (Am I blushing?) I really appreciate feedback from our guests so we can improve our service to them. We are happy to hear that our pricing is quite good as we are trying to give the best value so people will want to come back. We are REALLY happy to hear that you will be returning in the future. (Awesome!)
