About Betsy Prince
We are a family who loves the white sands and aquamarine water of the Gulf of Mexico. Over twenty years ago, we discovered the pristine beauty found in the Plantation of St. George Island. In 2005, we purchased land and began to build the house of our dreams. The Prince of Tides has been the perfect place for creating some of our best memories with family and friends. We feel sure it will do the same for you!
Betsy Prince purchased this House in 2005
Why Betsy Prince chose Plantation
The Plantation hosts one of the last beach areas in Florida with a variety of native trees and plants, which can be explored along enchanting trails by foot or bike. It is a secured community allowing access only to owners and guests. The beaches are tranquil and quiet, and the scenery is restorative and refreshing.
What makes this House unique

Great House for Family Vacation
Great house for large family vacation. The beach is a quick walk and the pool is great.
Fantastic beach home!
Our family loved our recent vacation at Prince of Tides! The home is so beautiful and comfortable. Stocked with everything we needed. We loved the pool and screened in porch. The beach was a short walk and family friendly. The home owner was wonderful and took care of all our needs. We hope to stay there again!
We loved our stay at "Prince of Tides"! Location was perfect for our family and accommodations were excellent! Would highly recommend!
Best week EVER!!
Beautiful home. Comfortable, nicely decorated, everything one needs in the kitchen, plenty of private space, plenty of communal space, wonderful pool. And the most comfortable beds!!! Bring your bathing suit, beach towels, toothbrush and stop by the Piggly Wiggly Express for a surprisingly large selection of foods. Three generations of women enjoyed a week of mostly sunshine, a bit of rain, a dolphin rescue, morning coffee on the screened in porch and evening cocktails by the pool! A friendly, responsive and gracious owner created a stress free break from daily life! I miss Prince of Tides!
Wow, thanks Robin! You were delightful to communicate with and just so easy.
Hope you and your group will return to the Prince of Tides, we love sharing our home with people who appreciate it.
Perfect spring break
What a beautiful place to stay. It was just a short distance to the beach. We will be back!!!
And we will welcome you and your family back. Thanks, Roy.
This place has been amazing. My husband lost his brother in an accident that occurred on his job. He has 4 daughters and a beautiful granddaughter, we haven’t spent any time with them since the accident. This majestic place offered us what we needed as a family! It rained a couple days, and the girls enjoyed swimming in the pool during the rain. The house was fully stocked, and my husband enjoyed cooking in that beautiful kitchen. This house is a must rent property, I promise you will love it as we did.
Thanks again Betsy, what a gracious host.
We will return soon,
Thank you Tammy for your glowing review. You were so easy to work with and took good care of our property. I know your nieces feel very fortunate to have family like you and your husband, especially after experiencing such a trauma. You are good people. We sincerely hope you will return.
“The Prince of Tides” is approximately 100 yards from the boardwalk going over the dunes to the beautiful white sands of St. George Island beach. Guests may walk or drive to the boardwalk. We provide two child-size wagons allowing guests to transport small children and/or beach gear. We visit St. George often and have never seen the beach in the Plantation crowded. We set up our canopy and chairs and leave them at the beach all day. When we return, everything is always as we left it. The Plantation is that kind of place.
Typically, when we visit St. George, we bring a large cooler or two filled with things we want to eat for those meals that we plan to “eat in”. There are two small grocery stores on the Island and two larger (but not large) grocery stores in Apalachicola, Piggly Wiggly and IGA, both located on Hwy 98. There are many places in East Point (just over the bridge) where you can buy fresh seafood. We make most of our purchases at Island Seafood Market. For supplies like sunscreen, chips, floats, paper towels, detergent, we head to Dollar General in Eastpoint.
For dining on SGI, we love the “Blue Parrot”, “Paddy’s Raw Bar”, “B.J.’s Pizza”, or “Harry A’s”. “Harry A’s” is the closest thing to a nightclub on SGI, offering karaoke, dancing and billiards. In Eastpoint, our favorite restaurant is the “Family Coastal Restaurant”; we also enjoy oysters at “Lynn’s” and very good Mexican at “El Jalisco”. In Apalach, we like to visit “Up the Creek”, “the Grill”, “The Owl Café” (Sunday brunch from 11:00 to 3:00 is divine), “Tamara’s”, and “Papa Joe’s”, where my husband loves to order the fried flounder (always call ahead and ask them to reserve a flounder as the demand is high). I have friends who always visit “Boss Oyster” or “Caroline’s on the River”. “The Ice Cream Soda Shoppe” in Apalach, where they still serve old time ice cream sodas as well as delicious sundaes and ice cream cones is a stop you will not want to miss. There is also a delicious chocolate shop in Apalach.
Apalachicola has become a very artsy community with a number of nice art galleries. If you are interested in pottery, oil paintings, water colors, jewelry or wood work you will enjoy the original works these shops have to offer. Apalachicola has a number of quality clothing shops as well.
On the Island, it is fun to visit the St. George State Park with hiking paths through native fauna where lots of different birds and sometimes animals can be viewed. The St. George Island Light House now sits in the center of the Island and for a nominal fee you can climb the stairs to the big light. Adjacent to the lighthouse sits a replica of the keeper’s original two story home. The light house was formerly located on Little St. George, (which is now a federal reserve and can be viewed from Bob Sikes’ Cut in the Plantation). With the erosion of the Beach on Little St. George, the Light House fell into the sea, the bricks were recovered and through donations was rebuilt at its present location.
St. George is a wonderful place to ride bikes. Bike paths exist no only throughout the Plantation but also throughout the Island. The relatively flat Island makes the peddling easy. Guests may transport their own bikes or rent bikes from St. George Island Beach Gear, Jolly Rogers Beach Shop, or Island Outfitters. Umbrellas, paddle boards, kayaks and other beach gear are also available to rent.
Just over the St. George Bridge on the Eastern side is the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve, an interesting place for adults and children alike (so far admission is free). Guided boat tours may be chartered through “Journeys of St. George”. You can reserve a sunset tour or a dolphin sighting tour. Journeys of St. George and many other fishing guides in the area are available for chartering half day or full day fishing trips. Golfers are advised to check out the St. James Bay Golf Course in Carabelle, favorably recognized by the Golf Advisor.
While you are visiting St. George, do not miss an opportunity to view the beautiful sunset. A favorite place to view for my family is at the Bob Sikes Cut in the Plantation. It is truly a magnificent sight.
If you choose The Prince of Tides for your vacation, you can be assured that we will strive to make your check in process and entry into the Plantation as easy as possible. We will send you the contract and Plantation Agreement to complete prior to your arrival. We also strive to make your stay at The Prince of Tides as comfortable as possible with: books, games and puzzles to entertain on a rainy day, every kitchen utensil, dish, and machine you need for preparing favorite dishes, comfortable beds for sleep and private baths for each bedroom. Our house is set up to accommodate 10 guests which is our maximum (our aerobic septic system is set accordingly). For repeat guests, we offer a 5% discount on the rent.
