About Ashley Hildreth
Michael and Glynis live in Vancouver, BC Canada. We have travelled the world but settled on the undiscovered area of Tulum and have had property in Mexico for over 5 years. We found Casa Playa Maya through friends who live on the Bay. Bill, the previous owner had been here for 18 years and wanted to retire and travel. We made Bill's dream come true and he made our dream come true. We instantly fell in love with the property, it's impossible to not LOVE the bay's beauty, but it needed some TLC and a bit of a facelift. We have the vision and skills to do major upgrades such as painting everything, new hotel quality beds, linens, towels, kitchen items & appliances, blinds and more. We built a lovely warm fresh water pool with a shallow section for the little ones. We added a 2nd Casita building with a studio and a 1 bedroom suites. Beautifully landscaped the gardens with colourful Mexican flora and brand new paving stone path. We completely renovated existing bathrooms and added some Mexican style colour and art. We just want to share this amazing part of the world with those who love a peaceful, relaxing holiday on one of the world’s most beautiful places on earth.

Why Ashley Hildreth chose Tulum
Soliman Bay is the best kept secret on the Riviera Maya. The Casa Playa Maya property is situated in the central location on Soliman Bay which is rock free with only soft, white sand beach. The beach is at your doorstep and largely undiscovered so the beach is never crowded. When you arrive, you will wonder how this beautiful bay and Casa Playa Maya remains so undiscovered. Soliman Bay is the hidden gem of Tulum. Just a few minutes north of Tulum center, it is exclusive and private. Entry to Soliman Bay is protected by our Security checkpoint staff. The bay is protected by the second largest coral reef in the world, we have the safest snorkelling, calm, warm water and abundant sea life.
What makes this Studio unique
Casa Playa Maya is centrally located on Soliman Bay where there are no rocks on the beach, just pure sand. The location was hand picked long before it was developed to ensure its prime location. Largely undiscovered, many days you will find you have the bay to yourself. Because of the sandy bay, you can walk the length of it for great exercise. Not the “advertised” size!
There are 248 square feet not the 500 square feet listed. There is no “stocked” refrigerator. The unit is small and we felt very cramped. It is behind another large unit so views were nonexistent. Waste of money. Needs to be more truthful. The only plus is Louis and Annabel were very nice and helpful.
Always wonderful! Will be returning next year. Thank you.
Quiet, Peaceful and Serene
We stayed seven nights in Casita 2, located upstairs and just steps from the beach next to the pool. The Casita was clean and in very good shape with all amenities we needed. Luis and Annabel are wonderful hosts. We had reached out prior to our arrival and they had our kitchen stocked with our requests. They are also a wealth of information on local attractions and things to do. I would recommend a car as it is in a remote location. The beach is very beautiful and the neighborhood very quiet and safe. We would certainly like to return in the near future.
The grounds are private, clean, well-maintained, and peaceful with birds singing! The private beach is right there at your footsteps! The pool area is beautiful and relaxing. My husband and I took a kayak out to kayak the bay and snorkel the reef and it was awesome! The whole bay was so private. We felt many times as if we were the only ones on the beach or in the ocean. There is a security guard at the end of the road as you enter the property for added security. This place is about a ten minute drive outside the pueblo of Tulum, which we really enjoyed as it was quiet and relaxing. Sitting on the beach at night in the lounge chairs was really nice. We happened to visit during a full moon, and it lit up the whole bay. The AC and fan in the casita keep it cool, but you can also open the windows for a nice breeze. The palapa-covered balcony is perfect for outdoor dining. We enjoyed having a kitchen stocked with dishes, etc. We visited a supermarket ten minutes away in Tulum for groceries. Luis and Anibel, the property caretakers, live on-site and are truly amazing! They are great assets to this property. They are so kind and really just make this place special! Luis was always making sure everything was going well and anytime we needed anything he was right there to help. Truly an amazing person! Thank you to Wendy and Ashley, and a special thank you to Luis and Anibel for all that you do! My husband and I hope to return!
Absolutely wonderful - exceeded our expectations!!
I hesitate to write a review for Casa Playa Maya as it was so wonderful I selfishly want to keep it to myself. My husband and I stayed a week and had the most relaxing time. Daily walks on the beach, snorkeling, paddle boarding and lots of down time. Exactly what we were looking for!!
We arrived to a lovely dinner of mixed fajitas, guacamole, pico and the best flan I have ever had, made by Anabel. The flan was large enough to enjoy for a few nights!! Luis and Anabel are very warm, inviting and constantly checking to see that everything was ok and if we needed anything. There was a nice welcome packet explaining the area and what was available. It was great as we had never been to Tulum before and the information was helpful.
As we didn’t have a car, Luis was kind enough to set up a taxi (his friend Valentene) to take us to the grocery store. This was so helpful as he took us to find specialty items as well and made multiple stops. In addition, Luis set up massages on the beach for us. They were wonderful and the only complaint was that they weren’t long enough. I would highly suggest at least a 90min to fully relax. The girls did a great job in getting out the knots in all the muscles.
As far as the property – it exceeded our expectations! Comfortable and had everything we needed. It was very well kept and beautiful. We spent every day on the beach. One note is that it can get quite breezy/windy at times on the beach. During that time I would sit by the pool where the wind was blocked. The beach was never crowded and the sand was very soft until walking to the points. Then I would suggest some good water shoes to walk on the rocks. With the protected bay you could walk out quite a ways toward the reef or take the canoe all the way out. The balcony was a perfect spot to sit and relax as well. The A/C worked well for when we needed a break from the heat. At night with all the windows there was a great cross breeze. We really enjoyed waking up to the birds singing/talking in the morning.
The kitchen was set up well with the basics to get you going. We also asked to have some main items stocked in the fridge prior to our arrival which is a wonderful service and I highly recommend taking advantage of it. We ate all meals in except going down the beach for Ceviche one day.
The only downfall of our time there was that we had to leave!
My husband and i stayed here on our honeymoon, after getting married in Akumal just before. The villa was absolutely perfect! I would totally recommend the unit we stayed in, second floor, amazing vaulted brick ceiling, the deck was perfect for breakfast and our evening drinks and dinner, kitchen had everything we needed. Also a few quick steps and your on the beach. This house and location is everything I love and look for when traveling, a little off the beaten path, not crowded (at all!), and a stunning beach. I love to snorkel, and this location was ideal. The bay is well sheltered from the elements. We could snorkel right from shore and see plenty, but daily we would paddle out to the mourning buoy where the reef had a array of fish and creatures! I have been a lot of places and it was equally as exciting to some of my favorite beaches in Indonesia, virgin islands and Puerto Rico. We saw lobster, turtle, eel, sting ray, spotted eagle ray, baracuda, and so many other awesome fish!!!! In the morning when the water was glass you should take the paddle board out and you can see clear to the bottom, i would see fish, turtle, sting ray, and even a huge baracuda clear as if I had my mask on, it was really cool!
We ate in almost every meal, but we did get caviche at Chimicos at the end of the bay, they are open til about 5pm, I would highly recommend it. Also Bob's market has a really good selection of food, beer, ice cream and other stuff, it's within walking distance.
The caretakers are also worth a solid shout out, they were wonderful!
We hope to be back in the future!!!
