Can't get away this summer? September is a perfect time to visit the North Shore

Bedrooms 2
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6)

Come enjoy this wonderful lakeshore cottage up the Gunflint Trail 38 miles from Grand Marias. We are open May through September. Our cottage is located on beautiful Loon Lake adjacent to the BWCA. Loon Lake is known for BIG fish, the question is whether or not you can catch them! You will have your own private dock for swimming, fishing and watching sunsets. There is a canoe provided so you can explore the lake. You can arrange motorized fishing boat rental or bring your own boat to the launch just down the road from the cottage.

Take advantage of direct access to the Boundary Waters Canoe and Wilderness Area (BWCA) from our cottage. The BWCA is one of North America's largest wilderness areas with over one thousand lakes and streams within its boundaries.

When you're done playing outside, come inside to relax and get comfortable in your private, cozy knotty pine cottage. We have two bedrooms and a newly remodeled bathroom. One bedroom is furnished with a pillow top queen sized bed and the other bedroom has a double bed and pine bunkbeds. Our source of water is lake drawn from Loon Lake. Our living space allows you to continue to enjoy the lakeview from our large picture window.

We feel confident you will enjoy your stay and exploring this rustic area. Don't forget to get your camera ready for the moose and other wildlife often seen on the drive up to our cottage on the Gunflint Trail.

About Scott and Anna Sorensen

We are originally from the Twin Cities. We moved to Grand Marais in 2003 looking to live in a smaller town. We love living in this community and raising our two children here. We enjoy playing outside and serving others. Our Griffon is with us wherever we go! Best dog ever!! We enjoy sharing our cottage with people who enjoy the North Shore as much as we do!

Scott and Anna Sorensen purchased this cottage in 2005

Nice, simple cabin in the wilderness.

  • 4 of 5

Nice, simple cabin in the wilderness. The cabin is clean and has everything you need for a getaway on the Gunflint trail. You can hike the Crab Lake Trail right from the cabin. We hiked all the way to Bridal Falls (about 2 hour hike each way). We also hiked to Magnetic Rock (you have to drive a little ways to get to that hike). We also enjoyed sitting around the fire down by the lake and canoeing on Loon Lake.

Very nice, quiet property located along the lakeshore

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time staying at the Loon Lake cottage. Although the weather didn't fully cooperate, we were still able to explore the Gunflint Trail area on foot and by car. We also had a chance to use the provided canoe, which was a nice touch. Thanks for everything!

Beautiful Cabin for Any Adventure You Seek

  • 5 of 5

I had various friends of differing adventure levels come visit me, and this place accommodated the s'more makers to the early morning portage and catch pike fisherpeople. Great info letter and responsive owners to questions beforehand.

Best escape vacation EVER!!

  • 5 of 5

This is a cabin where you are literally "Off The Grid" that is clean, comfortable, and a few steps up from Loon Lake. We had one of the best vacation weeks ever. We tent camp so we felt this was like a motel on the lake. The Loons are fun to watch from the dock, the hummingbirds outside the window, the fishing we did from the dock was great. I caught my first Northern Pike and husband caught as well (his was twice as big!!). We also caught smallmouth bass and perch. When not fishing, hiking the crab lake trail was absolutely beautiful. If you like to camp and are looking for somewhere to just "Get Away", Scott and Anna have the perfect cozy cabin where you can go. Thank you for the wonderful week!!

Location was outstanding

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at Loon Lake! All the amenities were at the cabin, and what you would expect for a cabin on the lake. We didn't avail ourselves of all the recreation (e.g., TV, music, games, fire pit) but were able to relax and use the canoe twice. Our son and daughter-in-law have their own kayaks, so we were able to go out on the lake together (my husband and I). We ventured a few miles and hiked up to a place loaded with blueberries, eating many! We took several short trips around the area and enjoyed NE Minnesota.

There are a lot of little areas in the cabin that could use repairs. While most did not affect our daily use, a few were an inconvenience. The biggest one was the bathroom door did not shut all the way. Other doors and windows required effort to open and close. We did not use the oven, but it was not clean. The other things can be identified in a detailed walk-around. Perhaps after this season, the owners might consider fixing those items. If you love non-motor boating, or fishing (we did not fish), this lake is great! I would recommend this place if the run down parts were fixed/updated.

Owner's Response: Thank you your feedback. We do plan on fixing thise things up once the season is over and we can get into the cabin. My guess is with all the rain the wood is swelling some. I have talked with my cleaner about you concerns as well. Glad you enjoyed your stay!! Anna
