Overview

About the property

2 bedrooms plus a sleeping loft with King bed, 2 full bathrooms, sleeps 1- 6

Relax in this exquisite home for a wonderful time in Acadia. This 3 story late Victorian home is attractive cedar with colorful gingerbread dormers. A classic foyer and staircase leads up to a well-appointed, completely renovated 2 story abode. With so many homes in Bar Harbor now converted to B&Bs, here is your chance to step back in time and enjoy a 19th century residence as it once was when the town's doctor, Royal G. Higgins lived here with his family. Just down the street is the astonishing Bar Harbor Club on Frenchman's Bay, built by J.P. Morgan in 1930 and still open to visitors.

The main floor boasts a modern kitchen bathed in light from cathedral ceilings, skylights and stained glass. Hand hewn hemlock ceiling beams compliment the rustic Maine planking covered with Andy Warhol edition rugs. Stroll from the kitchen to a large elevated deck with pergola, lighting and an open view. The living room, bedroom and reading room have wainscot, crown moulding and detailing. Amenities include large screen 3D LED Internet TV, surround sound, Apple TV and Blu-ray DVD. All built discreetly into the abode.

The main bath is modern, tiled, and offers a walk-in shower. The upper floor offers a master bedroom suite with reading nook, living room, a 2nd bath with shower and a King Bed loft bed accessible via library ladder. All 3 bedrooms are in opposite locations for a visit of quiet solitude.

Outside the house is a delight surrounded by elegant gardens on all sides to enjoy. All in all, this is a cozy, unique and classy getaway. Not your standard vacation rental ! Then again, Acadia is not your standard vacation selected in 2014 by "Good Morning America" as America's favorite vacation spot. Escape to "A Prima Vista". The reviews say it all. !!!

During your stay you can stay connected with high-speed internet with wireless and eithernet connections and work away from home in the convenient office. Unlimited US phone service is standard. Skype right from the tv to family and friends using (no need for a computer). Pack light with a washer and dryer for your use. Relax in the yard or nap on the rocking chairs on the porch. Use the grill to barbecue and enjoy the outdoors.

Great location!

  • 4 of 5

Enjoyed our stay! The home needs all new bed linens including pillows and carpet in the living room. The deck and kitchen were awesome! The location was perfect!

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed the elevated deck and kitchen...they are the centerpiece of the house. Indeed...time for new linens which are already ordered. We also have had the rugs deep cleaned...alas, some guests do not remove their hiking shoes in the house as we request and the white berber carpet will occasionally suffer. Thank you for the feedback. We work to ensure a wonderful visit and your feedback helps us to do that. Thanks again.

Great house and Great location!!

  • 5 of 5

A Prima Vista was perfect. We had three couples and each bedroom had its own space. The master has its own bath the two other bedrooms share the downstairs bath. It was not a problem at all. The shower in the bath downstairs had great water pressure! A very enjoyable shower! We loved the location and were able to walk everywhere. A five minute walk will get you anywhere you want to be. We would definitely Recommend!

Most gracious, convenient and modern home in town. Quiet street. Huge deck. A total delight.

  • 5 of 5

Everything was just perfect!!! We give it yet another 5 star review. Clean. Affordable. A classy home with a comfy feel that has contemporary touches like surround sound, apple tv, airplay...and the kitchen is a gem with a wide slider that opens onto the deck. If you want to cook, it has it all. If you want to eat out, you can walk to every restaurant within minutes. Owners provided all types of tips via email and summaries of their favorite places. Sleeping areas area away from each other for privacy. It was ideal for our family. We will be back. T&L

Best spot in Bar Harbor

  • 5 of 5

I can't say enough good things about this house. This is our 5th VRBO and one of the best. Communication with Sean was easy, fast, and accurate. He's very helpful and knows a lot about the area. He always got back to me right away with any questions and checked in on us to be sure we had everything we needed.

Location: AWESOME. Walking distance to all things! We walked to the grocery store, walked to breakfast, dinner, shopping. We could have walked to the shuttles, but we're sunrise people so didn't do that.

Kitchen: Fully stocked and well kept. We didn't end up cooking much (so much to do!), but easily could have. Everything was very clean. It's a small thing, but I liked having water in the fridge door. We refill water bottles a lot, so that was very helpful.

Sleeping: We were 4 people, two couples. My folks (in their 60's) had the master bedroom/bathroom upstairs and had plenty of space to spread out. We took the loft off the living room. The pictures don't do it justice. The bed is very comfortable, the room below had plenty of space for our stuff. The house is very quiet so we didn't hear each other. I was concerned about this a little since the master seating area overlooks the kitchen and our doors lead to the living room, but there was no issue at all. I also never heard the person on the first floor. I know they were there, but couldn't hear a thing.

Hanging out: The kitchen table is big and a natural gathering place. The size of the kitchen makes this an easy thing to accommodate so we could be making breakfast and hanging out together. The sofas in the living room are very, very comfortable. The entryway was great for taking off rainy shoes and jackets before heading upstairs. Unfortunately the weather didn't allow for sitting on the deck, but it looked like a great spot!

Only semi-downside is that there is only one parking space off-street. When we arrived on a Saturday night, there wasn't much street parking so our second car just blocked the driveway (after we parked in it). That was the only day we had any problem finding street parking right at the house. Not an issue, just something to know.

If you're looking at staying in Bar Harbor with a few people, this is a great choice. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!
