We really enjoyed our 3 nights. We came out to see the baseball hall of fame and check out other sights and breweries in Cooperstown. The house was very clean (and nice cotton sheets on the beds) and Lisa was super responsive and easy to deal with.
Also it’s a quick pop into town (7 min). We had brunch at Blue Mingo grill and a great dinner near by at Bocca Osteria.
We would definitely stay here again!
We loved this house. It was clean and well appointed. Comfortable beds, nice bathrooms and really cute property. The only thing I would change is that our navigation said 6 miles from Dreams Park. Not a big deal as it was always a quick drive.
Thanks for your kind words! Always very gratifying when visitors truly appreciate the property. We loved hosting your group - such fun and friendly people, ideal guests. Sorry about the mileage thing - I just went by what Google Maps told me and never questioned it but will revise. Appreciate the feedback!
Wonderful comteporary home close to town and Dreams Park
Great property, wonderful owner! House was perfect for a single family.
Chris and family were a delight. Very friendly, neat, left the property spotless. Lovely chatting with Chris’s mom on the deck! Recommend highly.
Overall a good experience, but a few things I wish we would have known.
We stayed here during our son’s tournament at Dreams Park. We stayed with two other couples and overall our stay was good, but there were a few things I wish I would have known ahead of time.
1. The A/C was only one unit in the living area and kitchen and did not cool the bedrooms or other areas of the house. We were there the first week of July and temperatures were pretty warm so sleeping was especially uncomfortable. Lisa (the owner) did try to purchase some additional small air conditioners, but was unable to find them.
2. Seating in the house was limited. It was beautifully decorated, but there were no couches anywhere, only sitting areas with a few chairs. This especially posed a problem on the last night for us because we checked our boys out to stay with us to leave early the next morning. Since there were no couches, they had to sleep on the floor. There are 3 queen size beds, but we shared the house with two other couples. If you were the only family in the house, this obviously wouldn’t be a problem.
3. The owner lives in a camper very near the house. She was very nice and helpful with suggesting restaurants etc. This was convenient if you had questions or needed anything, but it didn’t feel real private. You can see the camper right outside the kitchen window.
4. The bathroom and bedroom doors have no locks and several windows in the bedrooms have no shades. This made the heat worse and also made sleeping past daylight very difficult.
I think this house is best suited for a single family and not multiple families. It was very close to Dreams Park and downtown Cooperstown which was very convenient. The house was clean and the finishes were nice, but ultimately the A/C situation made us pretty uncomfortable. If the weather wasn’t hot, the experience would have been much better!
I read this visitor’s review with great disappointment, and respond as follows:
The writer is correct that her first night in Cooperstown brought atypically hot and humid weather, and also that the A/C system cooled the main living areas, but had little impact on the bedrooms. When I learned of this I acknowledged the fact to the writer and all other guests in her party, and apologized multiple times over the following days, checking several times as to their ongoing comfort level. I was assured by the writer and other guests that it was only the first, unusually warm evening that was uncomfortable and that subsequent nights were “fine.” Indeed, the following evenings brought temperatures in the mid-60’s, which is typical for this area, making A/C unnecessary, as is usually the case. Ordinarily the house is well-cooled by the fresh air coming through the windows, which provide great cross ventilation, especially with use of the many fans supplied.
The writer also correctly notes that I attempted to remedy the situation, but was unable to do so on short notice. The A/C system is brand new, installed October 2018 and used for the first time in July 2019, so I only learned of its failings on this particular week, and was very frustrated and disappointed to say the least. In response, I fully intend to overhaul and augment the A/C system, but since this involves major construction, I cannot do so immediately. Readers may rest assured, however, that this will be corrected for coming seasons and are invited to confirm this fact with me in the future.
The writer’s party included six adults. At week’s end they opted to check their three boys out of the baseball camp one night early, as is their right. I have happily hosted many baseball families over the years and understand that parents may want their young players to stay at the house for a night or two. When asked, I have always granted this request to visitors, as I did with this writer’s party. However, the house is clearly designed with sleeping space for six, not nine; this is stated plainly and repeatedly in the listing. Nowhere is any offer made to provide extra bedding – couches or otherwise - for parties beyond six. It strikes me as prejudicial and misleading, then, to complain that sleeping quarters were inadequate for these extra guests who were tacked on last minute (at no additional charge). I accommodated her special request without complaint, and I delivered fully on all promises named in the listing.
Privacy has never posed a problem in our home. As stated in the listing, I, the owner, live on the premises, and while it is true that you can see the camper from the kitchen window (and ONLY from this window) you cannot see INTO the camper, nor can we see OUT OF the camper, because the camper curtains are drawn at all times for this very reason. And no, we do not have locks on the bedroom doors, nor on the bathroom doors, because we expect that the adults and youngsters among us are trustworthy and will knock before entering. We live in a beautiful, safe, rural neighborhood with distant neighbors, and our home has many windows designed to take in the lovely views. Some have shades, others do not, but there is no issue with unwanted personal exposure anywhere.
In the end, I think this group, and the writer in particular, would have been better served by one of the many outsized, suburban-style homes in Cooperstown. These are built with the express purpose of housing large groups who seek amenities, layouts and designs similar to their own homes. By intention, we offer something strikingly different and aim to give visitors a boutique travel experience with charm, comfort, and high design. I am sorry she did not receive it in such fashion, but I recognize her right, and and everyone’s right, to preference and opinion.
