Relaxing Home

  • 5 of 5

We fully enjoyed our stay in this home, for our very first visit to the island. The home was very comfortable and clean. It had everything we needed for a relaxing vacation.

Lovely home

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at WHIMS. The home was nicely furnished and had everything we needed to feel at home. The kitchen had everything we needed. The owners were responsive when we first inquired about the property and provided all the information we needed. We didn't have to worry about anything and were able to have a relaxing vacation. We had a great time at Chincoteague. There is so much to do and see. Next time we go, we'll try to schedule it when there is a rocket launch at the nearby NASA station.

A Great Week

  • 5 of 5

My wife, 14-yr old daughter and I stayed at WHIMS in late June. It was the perfect size for us - plenty of room inside for cooking and eating, and even better, a screened in porch to enjoy time outside without having to deal with the mosquitoes. Knowing that we had the dock in our backyard, we rented a canoe for the week (Old Town Canoe) and enjoyed taking that out pretty much every day to explore the area and catch crabs for dinner. We took a boat tour of the island (Saltwater Pony Tours) and got to see a lot of the wildlife, including the ponies. We spent time at the beach, climbed the lighthouse and ate at many of the local restaurants, food trucks and ice cream shops - all great! Best of all was being able to come back to a great house, fully stocked with everything needed to really enjoy the week! WHIMS is definitely deserving of a 5 star review.

Enjoyed our stay at WHIMS

  • 5 of 5

My family and I (2 adults and 2 children ages 10 and 13) stayed at WHIMS in early July. I loved sitting in the screened back porch every day. We brought our kayaks and really enjoyed being able to take off right on the property. The gulf was only a couple of hundred feet away and we kayaked for hours. The house is in a quiet neighborhood but only 5 minutes from main street where there was shopping and restaurants. The mosquitoes on the island was a bit of a nuisance, especially on the wildlife refuge. We always had bug spray with us. I highly recommend WHIMS if you are looking for a home away from home while on vacation.

Perfect for 2-4 people

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I loved staying at this house, it really was like coming home every day. At the north end of the island, it's away from the crowds, but that's less than 5 minutes and a perfect place for bikes or mopeds if you rent them. I loved reading on the back porch every afternoon and wish we had taken kayaks to launch...maybe next time. The kitchen has all the essentials, including a tea kettle. We had no problem with the WiFi so the new modem must be working just fine. The master bed was super comfy, best sleep I've had in a long time!

Fantastic base of operations home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

The “wild” horses are on the mother-in-law’s bucket list. In February I start researching what there is to do in Chincoteague besides see horses. It turns out there are enough places to see to keep older people entertained for a week (6/4 - 6/11/16).

Google these places:

At Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge we did the Wildlife Bus Tour (it fills up fast - call ahead to reserve) and the museum where the bus picks you up - Herbert H. Bateman Center. We drove and stopped along the refuge itself to photograph horses and birds. (And there’s a long public beach to die for (changing rooms and showers!) - with lifeguards and lots of people - in that refuge!)

We didn’t do the Assateague Lighthouse Tour because of the steps. We did the museum of Chincoteague Island (lots of history and artifacts beautifully displayed). We did Wallops Flight Facility (a NASA installation with a nice museum about rockets and space exploration). We did the Island Creamery (great homemade ice cream), and lots of great restaurants and food joints and shops.

Daisy’s Island Tours was such a good time on Monday afternoon that we did the sunset cruise Friday - the evening before we left. We opted for a small pontoon boat; just the four of us and Captain Eugene. We saw lots of horses and other wildlife (mostly beautiful birds).

Ok. The house. Everything VRBO states it is - it is - and more. It “feels” like home. Yes, it’s tucked away off the main drag; a big plus. Yes, it’s on a unique manmade canal that connects to Oyster Bay. Yes, you can kayak - but we didn’t - but we saw a lot of them. Yes, I brought my 27” iMac so I could upload pictures to it every night from my camera - and - surf the net because I was in a little office with good WiFi; a huge plus! Yes, it has that screened in porch where we sat talking every night to the sound of nothing but crickets. No cars around ever in that neighborhood - Richardson Landing. Yes, the house is immaculate. You come in and the kitchen is right there, the living room is right there, and the deck is through the living room - right there.

But the greatest thing for us - my wife and I - and the two eighty something sisters - is that - being that far away from home - when you come into the house - to the right is a nice sized bedroom and a big bathroom - and to the left (for the sisters) is a nice sized master bedroom with a big bathroom. End of story!
