We had the loveliest weekend in Kirkwood at Breakaway farm. Our cabin was sweet, cozy, and fully stocked with thoughtful touches (soft sheets and towels were a big plus, as well as scented handsoaps and shampoo in the bath). We brought our 14 month old daughter and little dog with us, and they had the time of their lives visiting the horses and walking the gorgeous grounds of the farm. Wendy was attentive and helpful, checking in by text and answering questions very quickly, and, as many have mentioned, the four-legged greeting committee (pups Stella and Phoebe) are just the sweetest. We will definitely come back to Breakaway Farm and are so grateful to Wendy and family for the beautiful weekend!
Arrived on November 11th which happened to be a perfect chilly Autumn day. Met Wendy when I passed the cottage to turn around and was greeted with a warm, friendly welcome. Said she was available if we needed anything but assured us we would find the relaxation we were seeking. She was correct! So peaceful. My girlfriend had arrived about 20 minutes later and after unpacking started a fire in the cozy living room, fixed ourselves a drink and RELAXED! Took walks, ventured into the horse stables to pet the horses, drove into Amish country later that night and ventured into town on Saturday to check out the local shops and to a local watering hole, Ugly Mutts to watch the Ohio State game. Great place and atmosphere. Everyone was just so friendly and welcoming. We wanted to stay longer but unfortunately that thing called worked was waiting for us on Monday! Wendy, thank you for opening up your private little piece of heaven to us. We loved our stay and will definitely be back. Theresa & Lori
The cabin was everything that we expected. Cozy, comfortable and private!! It was nice to have the horses right in our backyard!! The trail around the property was beautiful too. It was nice to get a personal guided tour in and out of the woods by their beautiful sweet dog!! She led the way and we followed!!!
My husband and I had the most LOVELY time celebrating our first wedding anniversary at the cabin. There was nothing quite like staying on a beautiful horse farm (we heard the horses neighing each day, and could see them out of our windows!), with a big sky and quiet breeze. Wendy was super hospitable, allowing us to visit with the horses, hang out with her adorable dogs Phoebe and Stella, and sharing great tips and ideas for where to go and what to do. The area food was delicious (of note: Nottingham Inn and Half Moon Cafe, each about 30 min away), and we also spent one night grilling some delicious local produce from the farmer's markets nearby. This was a perfect getaway weekend, highlighted with visits to Longwood Gardens, Kennett Square, and Strasburg (cute shops and antiquing!). Our time in town was made even better by this cozy (yet up-to-date!) cabin, with its wood-burning fireplace, and beautiful property. We can't wait to come back again! Thank you for an amazing stay!
The cabin and horse farm is absolutely beautiful and very peaceful. We really enjoyed staying here. The porch is a great place to enjoy your morning coffee and relax! If we are ever back in the area we will definitely stay here again.
We just had one of the best vacations of our life! Welcoming, sweet cabin with everything you might need in it. Wendy and Travis are gracious hosts and are there if needed. Otherwise, you will have complete privacy. Well, Phoebe and Stella, their dogs, love to let you know how they love guests also. We are definitely missing them. I am so glad I took pictures. I have been looking at them, especially Phoebe's, since our return home. We loved looking out a window and seeing the beautiful horses. Morning birdsong and a horse's gentle whinny are a great way to start your day.
The countryside just puts you into a serene kind of mood yet there is much to choose from to do. In the cabin you will find information regarding places to visit or spots to eat. We intended to do more but found that being at the cabin, sitting on the porch, visiting the barn and spending time with Phoebe was enough!
We are looking forward to a return visit, sooner than expected, I hope!
If you visit, I know you will fall in love with Break-Away Farm too.
