About Daria Ruark
Welcome! My husband Scott and I have recently "retired," and are busy working on a variety of projects! We have 5 kids ranging in age from 33 to 18, with our youngest in college studying film while pursuing her singing career. We spend lots of time traveling between Orange County, Los Angeles, and to see her sing, work on one or another of our projects, or spend time with family!
Daria Ruark purchased this House in 2014
Why Daria Ruark chose Oakhurst
We fell in love with Oakhurst and Yosemite more than 30 years ago when taking a trip to the park. We had traveled quite a bit throughout the U.S., but somehow knew that Oakhurst was the place we would someday hope to own a home for retirement. We were fortunate to be able to purchase this beautiful home in 2014! We spend lots of time with family and we saw this home, we realized it was the perfect layout for doing just that! There is plenty of space for family gatherings and the design allows us spread out, be together in the great room, hang out in the large cook's kitchen, often while the kids often head downstairs to the game room, and relax out on the very large, 600sf multi level deck. The house is situated so that we always seem to have a wonderful breeze on those hot summer days to go along with the amazing city light and Windy Gulch views. Welcome and we hope you end up loving our little mountain town as much as we do!
What makes this House unique
We are close to the town of Oakhurst, Bass Lake and Yosemite's South Gate, yet our home's location, as you wind up the mountain, is private and woodsy while being 5 minutes to town! On our 2 acres, we see a family of deer most days, along with fox, eagles, raccoons, and various other woodland animals. Our back deck is 2 levels with a spa, bbq, outdoor fireplace and many seating options for lounging, eating, talking, reading or catching up on some sleep. We find that often we have to force ourselves to go out and explore the lake, the park, and town as we tend to end up just wanting to stay home! We have a 2 person Sea Eagle inflatable kayak for you to use. It fits in a pack that you can carry, inflate at the lake and you're ready to spend a day at beautiful Bass Lake. Of course, there are many boat rental options at the lake, usually a patio boat for us, and a speed boat when the kids and grandkids visit. Grab a tube (even I get on) for a wild ride around the lake! Then we usually head to one of the restaurants near the lake for breakfast or lunch. When you arrive back "home," you can dress and head to town for a meal at one of our local restaurants, cook, bbq, work a puzzle, read, catch a movie on Netflix or from our extensive DVD library, play darts, bumper pool, or just sit in the spa and unwind. There's a really nice telescope for viewing the night sky as well. Even without the telescope, the stars and milky way are amazing! Welcome to our home and please don't hesitate to call, text or email anytime. We can help you plan your trip and activities for your visit!

Daria was an amazing host
This house was perfect. We had seven adult family members stay in the house and was clean with every amenity you could imagine. I was very pleased we saw a deer many hummingbirds and quiet I was sitting out on the deck. The stars were amazing and so was the spa! I would highly recommend this home for your Yosemite/ Bass Lake experience.
A Hidden Gem
We chose this property after another property cancelled on us due to a double booking. I'm so glad that we got to stay here instead! First off, Daria was exceptionally delightful to work with. She was incredibly responsive and I truly felt like she made her home our home.
Everything about the home was comfortable. There was adequate space for us 4 adults and 3 children. In fact, I think it could accommodate another 3 people. Plenty of seating inside and out.
The game room kept my two boys busy every evening. The hot tub wasn't used as much as we had liked because it was incredibly warm the days we visited. The house had just about everything you could need to cook or entertain. One thing I will say I couldn't locate were plastic plates or bowls for the kids to use. Otherwise there was an abundance of kitchen supplies and tablewear.
It was a little tricky finding the home (even with navigation) but overall not too bad. It's a little bit of a ways from the main road/grocery store/restaurants so stop before heading up. Overall the location was fantastic to spend a day in Yosemite and a day at Bass Lake. My only regret is not staying one more night to just enjoy the home!
You won't be disappointed staying here and you won't be disappointed with Daria's hospitality!
Very worth it!
This is a huge house in a great location. It's two stories with a game room and a bedroom with its own full bathroom on the bottom floor. The house was very clean and well taken care of. You'll be on a hill in the woods, with the closest neighbor pretty far. There were so many amenities: board games, DVDs, a TV with cable, YouTube, Hulu, etc.. The hot tub was a great addition to relax in the evening. 5 out of 5 stars!
Top shelf in every way!
This is a beautiful, loved home and well beyond what already looks great on VRBO. We (2 families of 4 each) stayed to tour Yosemite for a few days and the least great thing I can say is our google maps had trouble finding the driveway. Spacious home, great large kitchen, great bedrooms and baths, massive deck with a hot tub and expansive view. Loved everything about it, highly recommended and we will return when we next visit Yosemite. Thank you homeowners!
Thank you for such a lovely review! We enjoy sharing our home with our guests and are always so happy to hear that you've enjoyed your stay. You were wonderful, considerate guests and we welcome you back anytime! Yosemite is beautiful and different every season...you can't go wrong any time of the year you choose for a return visit.

Wish we could of stayed longer
A great house in a fantastic location. Everything has been thought of to make our stay perfect. Huge living space, very well equipped kitchen and great bedrooms, games room was a hit along with the spa. Wish we could of stayed there longer.
We love this place. We have stayed here three times and love it more each time. From the moment you walk in the front door you have a feeling of being in a cabin. With four bedrooms there is plenty of room for any large family. My favorite area was the deck. I enjoyed sitting there listening to all of the different birds. Many hummingbirds came and fed from the feeders. We saw a mama deer and her baby. My son saw a racoon. We love how quiet it is.
We love cooking so we loved your kitchen. Very nice cookware and utensils.
The kids loved the game room.
Very nice people to rent from. Can not wait for our next time.
Thanks again for sharing your beautiful home with us.
Hi Theresa and family!
Thank you for all of the kind words! We hope you had a relaxing stay and were able to spend some nice family time together. I'm so happy you saw "our" deer family! They visit almost everyday and eat in our little garden area below the deck. You guys are awesome guests and we look forward to your next visit!
We are located approximately 15 miles to the South Gate entrance to Yosemite National Park, and about 10 minutes to Bass Lake. Yosemite is rated one of the top parks in the world and is visited annually by 4 million plus travelers from all over the world. There is something for everyone in our area; from the pure majesty of the mountains, to the tallest waterfall in North America (Yosemite Falls), to the hikes, giant sequoias, rafting, amazing views from Glacier Point and more. When not in the park, head to Bass Lake where you can rent everything from a kayak to a speed boat. Swim, tube, fish, relax! Horseback riding is offered inside the park and in Fish Camp, and a visit to the Sugar Pine Railroad is a must! Whether you schedule a ride during the day or plan on the moonlight ride and BBQ, you'll fee like you've gone back in time while riding aboard their steam locomotives! Return home after a day of exploration and soak in the hot tub, watch movies, play games, work on our puzzles, play darts or air hockey, read a book, bbq, bake some cookies, or take a hike up or down our mountain. You're likely to see our deer family either from our back deck or while driving in and out of our property too! If you like coffee, check out the "Cool Bean Cafe" looted near N=McDonalds on highway 41. My family loves the coffee while I, go for their Italian Cream Sodas...vanilla is a favorite, and make sure to ask them to use the cream! Feel free to call, text or email anytime and we'd be happy to offer additional ideas and suggestions for your stay.
