About Micki Evslin
We have lived on the island of Kauai in Hawaii for the past forty one years, but grew up in New York. Between then and now, we also lived in Vermont, Maine, Guadalajara and Guam. We have been married for 50 -- yikes ---years (started dating in high school!) and have 4 children and nine grandchildren, most of whom also live on Kauai. And they are the reason we can't move to San Miguel full-time! So we will settle for living there a couple of months a year. Micki is an artist/designer who currently owns a store on Kauai, KIKO. She was the former co-owner of the Sotheby's real estate office on Kauai. She is also a yoga teacher who doesn't teach and an artist who doesn't have time to create much. Bill is a retired pediatrician and hospital administrator. He is currently working on a book about consciousness.

Why Micki Evslin chose Zona Centro
Micki traveled to San Miguel for the first time in March, 2016 to take a sculpting class. During that visit, she was completely smitten with the town and convinced Bill (who was still in Hawaii) that they needed to buy a house there. Although she normally likes quaint, older homes, she fell in love with this very modern house, partly because it was drenched in sunlight, so important to her after 40 years of living in Hawaii. She also loved the fact that it is a flat walk into El Jardin, as she intensely dislikes walking uphill. And the immediate neighborhood -- and the neighbors -- sealed the deal.
What makes this House unique
* Light-filled * Around the corner from Fabrica de La Aurora, #4 on Trip Advisor * Spacious, modern design * On the edge of Centro, so you don't get the bar noise or tourist chatter * Flat walk to center of town with only a slight incline on one street * Incredibly friendly neighbors, including: a composer, an artist, a singer, a boutique hotel owner, an architect, a psychiatrist and the founder of Crocs! * A security "casita" manned 24/7.

Micki has a lovely large bright contemporary home filled with trees and ivy so you feel like your living outside inside.
Furnishings and amenities are all tasteful and in working condition. A cleaning woman and gardener come twice a week which is terrific.
Unfortunately there’s a lot of construction in the area with new homes going up and a large parking garage for Live Aqua the hotel downn the street. So it’s not tranquil but you get used to it.
It’s an interesting historal city to visit with lots of festivals and cultural experiences. The house is a short walk to Centro which makes it a very convenient location.
Thanks for the lovely review! Sorry I'm so late getting back to you, but as you know, I checked into the house the same day you left and I'm still here enjoying every second of this town and my house.
I'm so sorry that you were bothered by the construction noise. We definitely hear it too, but since we're mostly gone during the day, it hasn't been a huge factor. The parking garage beneath the ecological park across the way is finally 99.9% completed. They are still working on some neighboring houses though, but I expect them to finish those up in a couple of months.
I've never been here during the summer before and it is unexpectedly delightful. I had no idea. May was very hot, but now the afternoon rains have come and the weather is pretty perfect. High 70s in the day, and then it drops way down at night. A friend who has lived here for years told me that the summer is his favorite season here.
Hope you're enjoying your summer too!
We loved this house from the moment we saw it on VRBO and we were not disappointed! The Atrium house is filled with natural light and trees and vines growing along the inside walls of the main floor. The decor features a fantastic array of Mexican folk art displayed against a modern, clean architectural design. This house has the WOW factor!
The main living areas were very comfortable and the outdoor patios were heaven! We loved relaxing in the cool garden patio during the hot afternoons and going up to the rooftop patio for sunsets or nighttime star gazing.
The kitchen was fully equipped with everything necessary to prepare a meal or entertain friends for an evening.
Both bedrooms had ensuite bathrooms with showers and very comfortable beds. The bed linens were lovely and fresh sheets were put on the beds each week.
The location of the house is easy walking distance from the "centro" and just down the street from a new luxury hotel with an elegant dining room and cocktail lounge.
We knew we had chosen the right house once we started communicating with the owner, Micki. She was so accommodating and helpful providing us with information and suggestions about San Miguel as well as excellent instructions about the house.
Overall, this was our best vacation rental ever and we are so grateful to Micki for entrusting us with her beautiful home.
I was just reviewing my reviews and noticed I never responded to yours, although i could swear I had.
Could I just hire you to be my personal marketer? What an absolutely fabulous review ... and it included so much detail that I other potential guests will appreciate knowing about.
Every once in a while a guest stands out from the very beginning as being exceptionally appreciative and kind. Thank you for being that person.
I'd love to have you come back some day. Please do.
The casa was beautiful! The outside area was a real gem offering a respite from the direct sun.
While we were impressed with the house as well as the proximity to Centro, I think it will be a while until the roads to and from the house need improvement. If you don’t mind taking a taxi at night this is the place for you!
So glad you loved the house! We usually walk to the house at night unless it’s raining. Lucky cabs are everywhere and so reasonably priced!
Exactly as is described!
Great property. Perfectly maintained with a very helpful group of people to make sure you are happy. Easy walking to local Galleries, Restaurants, Bakery, and corner Grocery. 15 min walk to main San Miguel and and all that it has to offer.
Thank you, Eli! You were wonderful guests and we hope you'll come back one day.
We loved the generous size of the house, the architecture, the abundance of light, the furnishings!
The house is a great place to vacation if you like modern architecture. It combines both excellent private space and wonderfully open public space. The walled garden quickly became a favorite spot for breakfast on warm mornings and the fireplace served as a focal point on chilly mornings. A winning combination of comfort and style.
Our few suggestions would include adding a space heater in the second bedroom and arranging for the cleaning person and the gardener to come later in the day rather than at 9:00am.
We would love to return.
Ellen and Edward
I'm so sorry about the heater -- I wish you had let me know while you were there because we would have immediately provided one. We actually thought there was one in place, but I know there are at least two other brand new ones in the house -- one in the downstairs hall closet and the other in the large bathroom cabinet under the sink.
Great idea about the cleaning lady and the gardener coming later in the day. I would love that too and will check into it.
This is a stunningly beautiful home. Very new. Very large Architecturally very interesting. It is in a lovely spot, close to Centro, but away from the bustle. We really enjoyed our stay here.
Thank you for the terrific review. I'm so glad you loved it and hope you can come back some day. Next time hopefully there won't be a road closure!
We checked in the day you checked out and are here now until Nov. 3rd. I love this town and our house and wish we could move here permanently. But since we can't, we love sharing it with wonderful people like yourselves.
We are one of a small group of houses located in El Centro, right across the stream from Fabrica de La Aurora, the 4th most visited attraction in San Miguel. It is an old textile mill that was converted to restaurants, shops and galleries. The immediate area around us includes the best of old Mexico --- a cobblestoned plaza with a hacienda, quaint parish church and the old stone granary and amphitheater. A five star hotel, Live Aqua, just opened up around the corner. Walk two blocks from our house and you're ten minutes from the bustling public market and two more takes you to El Jardin, San Miguel's gorgeous center and gathering place. In San Miguel, you'll mostly want to walk, walk, walk to explore the historic center. It's endlessly fascinating and exciting.
