A Charming Studio, LA Live & Staples Cntr.

Bedrooms 1
Property type studio
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Relax and make yourself at home in this well-appointed studio apartment in downtown Los Angeles, within walking distance of L.A. Live, The Staples Center, and the L.A. Convention Center. Perfect for one to two people, but accommodates up to five.

The space

This comfortable apartment is an open and spacious wood-floored studio layout, ideal for vacationers, convention-goers, or for people traveling for business. The studio comes furnished with a pillow top queen-sized bed and a sofa sleeper which folds out into an additional queen-sized bed if needed (an additional twin rollaway bed is available upon request). When the sofa is not folded out, use it as a comfortable spot from which to surf the internet on the free Wi-Fi or to wind down while viewing Hulu and Netflix streaming video services on the 40’ screen TV. The apartment includes a full kitchen stocked with all of the basic essentials needed for preparing your meals at home along with complimentary tea and coffee. The single restroom is compact, and contains a standing shower instead of a bathtub.

Guest access

24-hour a day Self Check-In is available. Guests will be provided with a key and a password for the Wi-Fi.

Interaction with guests

Your comfort and enjoyment is a priority. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, or if you just want directions to various points of interest or advice on local destinations and cuisine, I am happy to make myself available to you. Otherwise, I will leave you to enjoy your stay.

The neighborhood

The location is just to the west of downtown, very near to the South Park neighborhood. The neighborhood is safe to walk through, which is great, because the apartment is only a few blocks away from L.A. Live, which has shops, restaurants, bars, movie theaters, a bowling alley and much more! It is also within walking distance West of The Staples Center and the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Getting around

The neighborhood is safe to walk through and there are bus stops every couple of blocks. The Metro Bus Stops can get you to the 7th Street Metro Station, which has subways running all day, opening up the entire city to you via public transportation. If you’ve brought your own vehicle, the apartment is just a block away from the 110 freeway only a short drive away from I-10. The apartment is 17 miles/25-30 minutes from LAX, 8 miles/ 15-20 minutes from Hollywood Walk of Fame, 10 miles/ 25-30 minutes from Universal Studios, 28 miles/ 35-45 minutes from Disneyland, 6 miles/20 minutes from the La Brea Tar Pits & LACMA, and less than 10 minutes from The Broad Museum, MOCA, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Natural History Museum and the Science Center.

Other things to note

If you are bringing a vehicle with you, there is street parking available but it can be challenging especially on the weekends and when large events are happening at the Staples/Convention Centers. A block away from the apartment, there are parking lots that range in price from $10 to $15 a day typically.

Shamrock Parking Lot With over night Parking; 1326 11th St.

We have 2 monthly parking spaces at Shamrock Parking lot. Let me know if you are interested to get a spot during your stay. Its $6.50 per day with unlimited ins and outs. They charge minimum of $10 per entry.

Very Convenient Studio in Downtown LA

  • 4 of 5

The owner was very personable, and he answered all of my questions. I've rented from VRBO many times, and on some occasions, the place doesn't look like what's shown in the pictures. That's not true in this case. What is you is what it actually looks like. The only downside of the location is that it is on Olympic Blvd, which can be noisy. However, the heater/ air conditioning unit pretty much drowns out the street noise, especially at night. As the description indicates, he has Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime there for TV viewing. That was great after a long day of work. Most of all, the place is very conveniently located. It's a 5 minute walk to the Staples Center. I waited at most for 3 minutes for an Uber pickup. All in all, the owner was readily available through email and the phone to answer any of my questions. Finally, the bed was very comfortable. That made a big difference.

Nice inside terrible outside

  • 2 of 5

I rented this place for 3 nights because it was close to the LA Convention Center and a less expensive alternative to the major hotels. I was VERY disappointed. The pictures of the inside aspects of the apartment were accurate, however what is not know until arrival are all the other VERY IMPORTANT things: sights, sounds, smells. The location is in a very bad part of town. The surrounding buildings and homes are run down, dirty, poorly kept. There is trash everywhere. The homeless and bums are everywhere. I was frightened to walk to my convention at the LACC. I worried about being mugged. No onsite parking. I unloaded my luggage and had to move my care to a parking space at the Shamrock parking lot but that was 3 blocks away. I was worried about break ins. Street parking is offered but if you are lucky to find a spot, the car must be moved at certain times- (times I was always at my conference) so street parking was out. Olympic Blvd is busy with traffic - expect car, truck, motorcycle, siren noise all day and all night. The street lights shine right though the windows and the thin venetian blinds don't block it out. The furniture was nice and clean. The big bed was comfortable. Nice pillows. The kitchen was well appointed. The bathroom was very small. No good area to lay out toiletries. There was a bad "rotten egg" smell. The upstairs occupant stomped around for a few hours every night from 8 - 11 pm. Thankfully I had the cable TV and internet as a diversion to enjoy. There are nice restaurants / movie theater near by at LA LIVE plaza but there is a lack of grocery / convenience stores close by so bring everything you could possible need. I would not stay here again.

Nothing charming about it. Needs better locks so it is a safe place to stay.

For the first time, I booked a VRBO property that was not well represented and unacceptable. I called the property manager to discuss my concerns and tell him that I didn't feel safe staying there. He was not willing to meet me at the property to address my concerns.

Check in time was 3:00pm, yet when I arrived at 5:30pm, the cleaning lady had just arrived. It was very dirty and the condition of the rental didn't compare to the photographs on the listing. It was not the safe walking neighborhood described, and once I realized how unsafe my unit was, I left with the cleaning lady. I had to book a hotel at the last minute.

If it had locks on the door and was safer, I would've been willing to stay even though I would have been disappointed with the interior. It is on the first floor with a code locking system. The same code opens the main gate (which was not strong and wide open when I arrived) and the door to my unit. I question if codes are changed between renters. The only other security feature on the front door was an inside latch similar to that in a hotel room. It appeared to have been "stretched out" and didn't offer any real security. I could've easily kicked it open. There were garbage bags on the front steps and the smell was overwhelming.

I felt uncomfortable arriving alone, being watched by people on the street and in the neighborhood, and unable to secure myself properly within the rental. As a woman traveling alone, I simply didn't feel safe staying there. It needs a more secure entrance with dead bolts and a key.

The property manager, David, told me I had to cancel the reservation with VRBO and he would relist it. If he was able to rent it again, he would refund some of my money. I told him there was no way for me to cancel it on my end, so he said he would call VRBO and handle it. David didn't respond to my calls and four days later told me not to call him and that I would need to handle this with VRBO. Unfortunately, VRBO has told me I need to work this out with the owner. VRBO told me to write a review on the property and give the owner/manager a chance to respond. So, I am hopeful he will respond to this complaint by issuing a refund. Davids unwillingness to help or communicate has made this a frustrating and expensive experience.
