Overview

About the property

Welcome to Iseminger Street!

Nestled on one of the most quiet & charming car-free streets in Philadelphia only a few blocks from Independence Mall & the Liberty Bell. This property is an entire two bedroom & two bath home. Note: It is rare to find a comparable home in the neighborhood with two full bathrooms. One king bed, one queen bed, & one pull out couch. Large back patio, wood fireplace, dishwasher, laundry, Xfinity/Comcast cable TV with HBO, high-speed internet, coffee maker, & all essentials included (fresh towels, linens, extra blankets, soap, hair dryer, etc.). Just a few blocks from the PA Convention Center and near the heart of all the historic sights Philadelphia has to offer!

While still firmly rooted in history dating back to the 1800s, this house has also been thoroughly updated. What is so special about this home is the original detailing: wood-beamed ceilings, original plank floors, fireplace (fireplace in living room can be used & other three fireplaces are only decorative), paneled doors, & vintage built-ins. Eat in kitchen, large back patio, two spacious bedrooms, & two bathrooms (One is brand new & was added December 2016). Sleeps up to five people.

**Please be aware that this property has somewhat steep stairs -- typically ok for most but may not be suitable for very young children or the elderly.**

The entire home is yours to enjoy! The key will be left in a lockbox, so you'll be able to check in & out at your convenience. I will be available throughout your stay if you need anything & I'm always happy to help you customize your Philadelphia experience. If you need any advice on restaurants & things to do then please ask!

My home is in the middle of the Washington Square West neighborhood & was built in 1824. It is one of the oldest & most historic areas in Philadelphia. The neighborhood is residential with historic townhouses, but also walking distance to everything in Philadelphia including many restaurants, bars, & attractions. The Pennsylvania Convention Center, Rittenhouse Square, Old City, Society Hill, South Street, Bella Vista, & Graduate Hospital are all within a five to ten minute walk. The street is one of the most charming in Philadelphia & is quiet despite being in the middle of the city. You'll find everything you might need within walking distance including a corner store, coffee shops, Whole Foods, a wine/liquor store, Walgreens, & many top rated bars & restaurants!

Public transportation (bus & subway) is easily accessible. There is a bus stop just east of 13th & Lombard & the subway stop (Broad Street Line) is located at Broad & Walnut. The house is within walking distance to two major train stations (Suburban Station & Jefferson Station). 30th Street Station is a ten minute Uber/cab ride & airport is twenty minute Uber/cab (usually under $20)! Uber, Lyft, & taxis are all readily available in the area. There is also an Indego bike share station just a couple blocks from the house on 13th between Locust and Walnut.

Because my home is located on a car-free street in the heart of the city, nearby street parking can be limited. However, there are a few parking garages & public parking lots close by that charge about $25/day to park. Most street parking near the house is fine for 2 hours, but you can go a few blocks south of South Street to park for extended periods of time & I'm always happy to offer tips & help assist. I may be able to provide parking permits for the same price the city charges me. Just ask first because of limited availability.

Dream Home & Location!

  • 5 of 5

I can't say enough wonderful things about Brook's lovely home. When I travel to an area and have a week to spend, I want to know what it feels like to live there. A hotel cannot offer you that but a vacation home can and this one does it brillantly! From our first evening, we felt like we were part of this lovely neighborhood. We were within walking distance of so many things that Philadelphia has to offer, and if it was too far to walk, the bus lines were close and easy to use. The house itself was so much fun! We got a lot of exercise climbing up and down the stairs (much needed), and it was so exciting to know that this house was built around 1824 so we were recreating history every place we went in the house. We were on the go most of the time while there but we had so much fun out on the back patio at the end of the evening or while enjoying a glass of wine before heading out to dinner. There were two senior couples in our group and everyone felt the same. If I ever return to Philadelphia, this wonderful home is where I want to stay. I can't thank Brook enough for providing such a special place.

Charming and historical accommodations for two couples

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay and found the townhouse very charming and comfortable. We were two couples; my husband and I are in our mid-50s and my parents are ~80. We had been warned about the narrow stairs (because of my parents' ages), but as active 80-year-olds, my parents did just fine with them, and we found they added to the charm.

We were within easy walking distance from many nice restuarants (Pinefish was our favorite) and we used Uber a few times when we were feeling walked out. We also walked to most of the major attractions.

It was nice for each couple to have the privacy of our own bedroom and bathroom on separate floors and the kitchen in the lower level enabled the early risers to gather and talk (loudly) while those of us who like to sleep in were able to do so (without hearing any noise).

During our stay we toured the Betsy Ross house which felt nearly the same, so we felt like we were really experiencing history.

The space was very comfortable for four adults, but should not be confused with huge and spacious. This experience was much more about feeling as though we were a part of the local history.

Thank you for the wonderful visit and for sharing your beautiful home with us!

Historic Happiness

  • 5 of 5

Two couples stayed for 4 nights at Brook's lovely Philadelphia home last week. What a wonderful time we had! Everything we could want was provided. Proximity to downtown and the Phlash (if you are a senior its a must for transportation to sites) and yummy restaurants. Highly recommend Mixto and Giorgios restaurants.

As Brook cautions, the Trinity style house has steep winding steps and may not work for everyone. However, we ranged in age from 64-71 and were able to maneuver them nicely.

His street is VERY narrow since its authentic to the time period - don't try to drive it. Easily can drop luggage at store nearby or at end of street and have someone stay with luggage while another person drives to nearby parking structure.

We all agreed we would stay again and recommend to anyone we know visiting Philadelphia.

Thanks Brook!

Unique and charming. Takes you back in time but is very comfortable.

  • 5 of 5

The house is within walking distance of everything we wanted to do in Philly and right near a SEPTA station on Broad Street that made getting to places farther afield, like the ballpark, very simple. There are quite a few narrow steps in the house but for us that just added to the charm. No central air but it was 97 degrees while we were there and the windows units kept it quite comfortable.
