Room for everyone, we were a family of 6 adults and 4 kids (9 to 13).
Very kid friendly. Beautiful beach for snorkeling and pool right out door. added bonus ping pong/ pool table.
The house was plenty big enough for our 2 families (we had 9 total). The house itself could use some updating, but it was overall a very nice and comfortable place to stay. I would definetly go back with my family. Now, the outside pool, beach and view were drop dead gorgeous. The deck and pool were wonderful, but the beach, hammock and all the palm trees were the most picturesque that we saw anywhere. Also, the snorkeling just in the backyard was amazing! There were so many coral reefs and fish that we spent hours out there. It was also great for younger kids b/c you could stand and take a breathe. We saw stingrays, starfish and even a nurse shark on our adventures. We snorkeled many places on the island and what was in our backyard was just as great as anything else on the island. The best part is there were no crowds...just our family/friends which was amazing.
I would say the only issue we had was one of the showers (master in the back) wasn't that warm, but we had 3 others to choose from so we just showered in one of those. So not really any issues at all. I would definetly recommend this house to anyone looking for peace and quite, great snorkeling and one of the best views on the island.
I would highly recommend Smith Cove, Goveners Beach, Rum Point and Stingray City for things to do. We had a blast. We also ate great and would highly recommend Duke's Seafood & Rib Shack (downtown just down from the Westin hotel) they had the best all you can eat BBQ buffet we had ever eaten! Even my 10 year old "picky eater" said that the 'flat iron stake was the best thing she had ever eaten"!!! We also ate at the Italian restaurant in Georgetown called Cassanova's which was absolutely amazing!!! However, they do NOT have free refills on pop which we were never told. After snorkeling & shopping we had 5 thirsty kids and $40 later we were not too happy. However, if you know and just enjoy the amazing food it is SO worth the visit. I would also recommend stopping and eating at one of the roadside jerk stands...great local Cayman food.
The entire island is only 22 miles wide from west to east; so you are never too far from anywhere on Grand Cayman. The homes on the oceanfront in Rum Point offer great reef protected snorkeling. The beaches usually have plenty of white sand, but also can have spots of rocky “ironshore” with natural rock formations. The closer you get to Rum Point, usually the sandier the beach as well as swimming.
Either way, with the abundant marine life we have in the water, you will want to wear foot protection (pool shoes or fins). The prevailing breeze (trade winds) from the east also make flying insects less of a nuisance—many of the homes in Rum Point don’t even need a screened porch. The big draw to this area is the proximity to the “Rum Point Club”; a public beach club that offers a fantastic barefoot beach…many watersports, a restaurant, bar, grill, gift shop and pick-up beach volleyball games. (www.rumpointclub.com ) It is from the Rum Point pier that the www.redsailcayman.com 65’ catamaran departs to stingray sandbar for snorkeling trips. Also near Rum Point is the Kaibo Yacht Club restaurant, bar and marina (www.kaibo.ky) Click map on our home page. Lastly…we have (2) large resorts in the east end (www.morritts.com and www.thereef.com ) that offer manicured beaches as well as restaurants, a modern grocery store, liquor store, gift shops, SUBWAY sandwich shop (and even a coffee/pastry shop). These two resorts also offer scuba, snorkel trips, jet skis, windsurfers, kiteboarding, ocean front pools and bar service. www.tortugadivers.com and www.whitesandwatersports.com offer snorkeling tours, paddle boards, jet skis, etc.
