Spacious 3,700 square foot resort-style country home on 5 acres, adjacent to miles of open space. Enjoy stunning mountain views while sitting on your large deck, or retreat to the private and secluded back yard pool area, with three waterfalls and a large resort style rock hot tub, hammock and outdoor grill. Inside other amenities await, including a gym, sauna, pool table, large screen TV, and 3 fireplaces, all set in a blend of southwestern and native american decor. While you may feel miles away from the bustling San Diego, you are only 40 minutes away from downtown and the beach, including major attractions such as Balboa Park, San Diego Zoo, and Sea World. Other nearby attractions include endless hiking trails, a lake with fishing and boating (about 3 miles away), horse back riding, and more.
Enjoy your master bedroom suite (the only room on the second floor) where you have your own private mountain and pond view balcony, fireplace, skylights, and waterfall shower. Two of the downstairs bedrooms are dual rooms with a connecting bathroom (dorm style). There is also a room with two twin beds, and a full bath in the gym, and an outdoor shower on the deck.
Local wildlife includes: Red tailed hawks, Golden Eagles, Owls, Osprey, Coyotes, Road-runners, Wild Turkey, and many others! If you are REALLY lucky you may spot a Bobcat drinking from the pond.
This home is a very special place and we have put lots of TLC into making this a welcoming retreat for travellers and for wildlife. However, we want to make sure it is right for YOU! Please review the following advisories.
1) Please note that to get to the house you must travel about a mile down a bumpy dirt road. Standard vehicles are just fine.. just a wee bit bumpy. May not want to bring your low clearance sports car.
2) There is weekly pool and yard maintenance which will be scheduled. Weekly cleaning is also available and will be arranged with you in advance. We will let you know the times so it will not impact your privacy.
3) The sounds of frogs and crickets may keep you awake at night. :)
4) The sunset against El Cap Mountain may take your breath away.
5) The night sky may remind you how small and insignificant we all are, or how incredible it is that we are at all.
Please let us know if you have any questions. We look forward to enchant you with our home and valley.

Why Laura Cyphert chose Lakeside
This property is a labor of love; built as our 'dream home' in 2005 after losing everything in a devastating fire in 2003. It has everything we dreamed of having; tall open ceilings, spacious floor plan, and all the amenities we could dream of. After living in this home for many years, we decided that the 3,700 square foot home was too big for just two people, and we knew the house was a perfect family vacation home. We have LOVED providing this home as a family vacation rental, and now split our time between this house and our other home, and have the best of both worlds.
What makes this House unique
Our home is extremely private and feels tucked away from the rest of the world, yet you are just a few miles from a bustling town, and a short drive to one of the largest cities in California. Enjoy complete privacy poolside with no other homes visible, and enjoy the wildlife that comes to the front yard pond. This is truly a unique location.

Very pretty and comfortable.
The house exceeded expectations. The pictures did not do it justice. Much prettier views, much larger than expected, and very clean. I would recommend this home.
Great Vacation Spot!
We have just returned from our third visit to this great Lakeside property. What a great place to stay when visiting the San Diego area. Once again we found the home clean, spacious, comfortable and with all the amenities included for a great stay. My family includes 5 adults and 4 children ages 5-9 with plenty of room for the kids to play, spend time in the hot tub or play video or card games. The adults could spend some quiet time by the pool, out on the deck or in the game room. The short distance from San Diego's main attractions is a blessing in that you can wake in the mornings to the peaceful surroundings of the mountains before traveling to the city. We will be back!
This was the last stop on our tour of California, myself, my husband and 2 teenage boys.
It had everything you could want to relax and enjoy local attractions.
The host were great and got back to us very quickly with any questions we had about the property.
The accommodation was well presented and very comfortable, we made great use of the spa and pool table in the evenings but unfortunately there were a few too many bugs and wasps ( totally out of the host control) for us to make full use of the pool although it was a lovely spot to eat breakfast.
We all had an amazing stay, thank you
A nice retreat which was hard to leave.
We truly enjoyed all of the amenities this place had to offer. The hot tub was used morning and night. The waterfall was so pleasant to listen to while around the pool or inside the house. We loved the firepit table. The pool was full of sunshine early in the morning. My husband and boys loved the pool table. The coy pond was nice. The first floor bedrooms were small and dark and the upstairs bedroom was enormous and bright, especially at 6:30 in the morning. There is an amazing walk in shower with natural light. You have mountain views while brushing your teeth. We started our mornings early.
A few suggestions
When we arrived...the pool was pretty dirty with lots of dead bugs and dirt at the bottom. The pool guy came the next morning I guess, plus we used the nets.
The kitchen could use some new teflon coated pans.
The stairwell going to the master bedroom really could use a dimmer switch or some sort of light to be left on at all times.
The deck door did not latch but you can put a pole in the door frame.
The pool toy box could use some attention.
A Bible on the bookshelf would have been nice.
The property is a perfect destination for a family gathering. We had a age range from 13 - 75 years of age and all enjoyed the home. Our teenage boys loved the outdoor pool! They also enjoyed the pool table. The scenery is amazing!
First- the scenery at the house is absolutely amazing. The view of the mountains is out of this world and worth the stay itself! I think we may have had bad luck with our visit. Apparently there was a power surge a few days before our arrival so several amenities were not functioning- most notably the air conditioning and the pool/spa. I was notified about this issue when my family landed in San Diego. The pool/spa was fixed on the 3rd day of our trip (although the pool lights never worked) but no one came out to fix the air until day 6 and it worked for 1 night and then stopped working again. It was constantly above 80 degrees and reached 84 during the day inside. The house itself was huge but could use some TLC as well. There were spider webs everywhere and the floors made our feet black. I really think it could have been great- but the issues with the power plagued our trip. I know things happen and some things can't be controlled, I just wish they had been dealt with in a more timely manner. Also- as many people have stated, the immediate areas surrounding the house are pretty sketchy- although we had no problems.
Unfortunately there was a power surge right before Andrew's arrival and we had to replace and repair many electronics, which involved ordering parts for the air conditioning unit. So, sadly I would agree that it was bad luck/timing and outside of our control. As far as the other comments, the 3700 square foot home is all tile and hard wood floors and receives very thorough cleanings from a team of up to 4 people each turnover. We may occasionally miss a spider web - which I could imagine may have been the case with the other issues we were distracted with to get the pool, hot tubs and air conditioning units back up and running asap. Lastly, the neighborhood is rural but not at all sketchy. You can look at crime reports at www.crimemapping.com and search for 15 years of data and you won't find any crime reports. I challenge you to find a safer place in San Diego. It is, however, in the country
Lakeside has four lakes all within a short drive of the property, and some with boat rentals (Lake Jennings)
