About the property

Perfect For Families With Children; And For Two Families To Rent Side-by-side!

This is our 2nd year offering BOTH mirror image sides of our vacation rental duplex, 303 and 305 Strawberry Street. We purchased the duplex fall 2014 and completed renovations on this side last spring!

The atmosphere is sunny coastal with contemporary-style kitchen and baths. There are 3 bedrooms and 1.5 baths. Fenced-in small yard with deck, upscale grill, outdoor shower, and beach gear in the shed.

Our property is conveniently located at the crossroads of Cape Charles - an easy walk to "downtown", the beach, and across the street from Central Park. The duplex has a covered porch to enjoy your coffee in the morning overlooking the park (east) and a back deck with table/chairs, umbrella and new gas grill (west), overlooking the fenced-in back yard with outdoor shower. Final touches have just been completed on this style-conscious, comfortable, and cozy coastal weekly rental (left side of duplex; both sides available for summer rental). Please take a look at the photos to see the front and back outside, and each room.

Cape Charles is embraced by water on three sides: commercial town harbor and yacht center (south), public beach (west), and marina (north). It's a wonderful setting if you love the water! Park Place is 3 blocks from the beach (Bay Ave.) and 2 blocks from the shops on main street (Mason Ave.). We are a mile from Bay Creek's two signature golf courses by Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus, with top ratings by Golf Digest. The area promotes eco-tourism opportunities, including kayaking (even kayak/wine-tasting trips to a local winery), fishing off the town pier, hiking, and birding. You can rent jet skis at the harbor, bicycles, and golf carts. The town often has festivals, planned recreational activities for children and adults, and sometimes shows, movies, or live bands in the Park. The Eastern Shore Birding and Wildlife Festival in early October - fall weather is great here! Festive Fridays for shopping and Christmas treats are held the month of December on Mason Avenue. Year-round, Cape Charles has live theater performed by Arts Enter and others at the Palace Theater, art galleries, a Brown Dog ice cream shop, ladies upscale consignment, and beautiful spa to name a few of the attractions in town! We have good eateries and, if you like nostalgia, be sure to stop by the lunch counter at Rayfield's pharmacy at the corner of Mason Ave. and Fig. Street. Cape Charles Medical Center is located on Mason Ave. too. Be sure to park your car by BACKING IN on the new angled parking on Mason Ave. FYI, tickets are being issued (and the speed limit in town is 25 mph).

For those who like buying local, seasonal, organically-grown vegetables and fruit can be purchased at Pickett's Harbor Farms south of town.

This 1925 duplex has beautiful soft light from tall windows and a great dining room to gather. Couples, small groups of friends, and families who want to slow down, go to the beach and the park, and relax in this walk-able small town should feel right at home. The kitchen is well and newly equipped, with upscale dishes and serving pieces if you like to entertain, Keurig coffee maker, electric and stovetop teapots, white appliances.

Free WiFi internet is provided and a new 40" flat screen TV, blue-ray player and surround sound are in the living room.

Park Place is is adjacent to the park and playground (see photo), and the kitchen has a high chair, or youth chair if the tray is removed, plus children's dishes are provided.

Bedrooms: 1 with a king size bed, 1 with a double bed and 1 with 2 twin-size beds. Linens are new!

Some beach items are provided to lighten the load of your travel here (8 beach towels, 6 beach chairs, 1 boogey board, beach umbrella, beach cart, plus 2 fishing poles and crab nets courtesy of a recent guest).

There is a stacking washer-dryer in the kitchen, plus a few DVDs, games, and books in the dining room bookshelf, along with a few toys/puzzles and potty for young children. Bring your DVDs, CDs, and digital music (iPods, etc.) to enjoy on the TV and surround sound system. For dogs approved in advance, a dog bed and bowls are provided too (a $50 pet cleaning fee will be charged). There is an outdoor shower and small, fenced-in back yard.

About Bill Walker

We moved to Cape Charles in 1997 from the DC area. We love the scale and layout of this town. We thought Cape Charles would be an ideal place to raise our son to be grounded by seeing the water every day, and being in a community where you know your neighbors and look out for one another.

Bill Walker purchased this house in 2014

Why Bill Walker chose Cape Charles

We decided on this duplex because of its location and the charm of a historic home . It's a genuine 1924 home, woodwork and all. That said, we updated the kitchen and baths for contemporary convenience and aesthetics. It's small, and cozy for those who want to spend quality time together!

What makes this house unique

There are no traffic jams here; and no need to plan your day around traffic. This duplex is in the middle of the historic district - Central Park with a playground is across the street; it's 2 blocks to the beach; and 3 blocks to the shopping streets and harbor. If you would like a home-like atmosphere, cozy, stylish and relaxing, Park Place 1 (or Park Place 2) is the place for you to get away.

Charming home in perfect location

  • 5 of 5

The home is lovely. Decor is tasteful and adds so much to the charm. Love that there is no carpet - all hardwoods or tile. Kitchen was well stocked. The linens and beach towels were very nice quality. Beds very comfortable. Loved the covered front porch - perfect place to sit and listen to a free concert in the park. Back yard is fenced for the young ones and pets. Outdoor shower and shed were clean and like new. It was a great place to stay and enjoy charming CC.

Cottage on Cape Charles

  • 4 of 5

First trip to to this charming little town on the bay. Our cottage was one of two side by side homes sharing a common porch on a very quiet street.

1.) Bedrooms were so comfortable and charming.

2.) Kitchen was great. We brought a coffee maker as we are coffee drinkers and a single Kurig system was not going to cut it!

3.) Lovely dining room to enjoy meals together. High chair was provided.

4.) Cable is not set up to allow desired news watching of MSNBC or CNN for news junkies, but we did without.

5.) 6 Beach towels provided, and a cute wagon to bring everything to beach and the 6 beach chairs provided were wonderful.

Final reflections...The owners responded immediately to our call that dryer wasn't drying and a new one was installed the next day. Bill even took our clothes home and dried them for us. Outdoor shower was delicious after beach days. We loved our stay and enjoyed our hosts who couldn't be nicer or more gracious. Great little spot and could easily accommodate family reunions with both units. We rented a golf cart to go to and from beach and town (3 blocks) which was so much fun. Cape Charles is a little gem! This was a great vacation for us!

A great week at the beach

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Park Place 1 during the last week of July. While there were a few issues when we arrived, Bill was quick to get in touch and explain the situation. From that point on, we had a great week. The house is comfortable and thoughtfully decorated; the kitchen is well equipped for cooking. It is a nice touch that in each bedroom there is a set of towels (more than 1 set). We look forward to spending another week here, hopefully next spring or summer.

Great vacation in a beautiful and quiet historical town

  • 5 of 5

Lovely apartment with great amenities, a 5 minute walk to a beautiful beach great for small children as the water is calm. It was very confortable and perfect for a family of 4, beds were very confortable, lots of towels, beach towels too, beach gear with chairs and parasol. Toilet paper, paper towels and facial tissue, as well as dish soap, dishwasher tablets and laundry detergent were provided and greatly appreciated. We've rented from other places that did not provide these things so we were gladly surprised.

We especially enjoyed having breakfast and night caps on the front porch. Everything was perfect. We would gladly rent again. A big thank you to Ann and Bill.

Great place and location

  • 4 of 5

For a first time rental the owners thought of everything. This is our 6th year to Cape Charles and each year gets better and better. House was nicely done, plenty of room and equipped with everything you need. Beach towels, chairs, umbrella and other beach stuff were supplied which made it super easy to pack. House is right across from the park so kids could walk out the front door and go play. Though we had a golf cart being 3 blocks from the beach made for nice and quick walks to and from beach. Nice deck and back yard. Lots of flies so didn't sit out too long but flies were all over Cape Charles.owner very responsive to questions Great week stay and can't wait to come back

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. Suggestions for improvement of this first season summer rental would be appreciated since we strive for and normally receive ***** (five stars) for our third season comparably-equipped, furnished, and decorated summer rental on the other side of the duplex.
