About Penny Hoglund
We are long time Carmel vacationers. This is our 4th property in the area. We started coming down from the bay area in the early 1990's and bought our first home in 2001. Our daughter's weekends were spent exploring all the Monterey Peninsula has to offer. While Carmel isn't our primary home, we do spend about 3 months a year in Carmel.
Penny Hoglund purchased this House in 2016
Why Penny Hoglund chose Carmel Riviera
We bought this property because it "feels" so right. The moment we walked through the door, we knew this was the home for us. Spacious feeling, but not so big that it's a chore to take care of. Lovely ocean views, easy access to the hwy and to Carmel. It's our favorite vacation home.
What makes this House unique
We enjoy the large oversized windows that bring the outside into the home. The house is white, light and airy.

Beautiful space but close to road with traffic
The living space is as pictured light filled and beautiful- although not much lighting at night. The bedrooms were not as inviting and sleeping was hard due to the road noise. There is a noise machine next to the bed which I didn't notice until the last morning and maybe if I found the fans would have helped. The kitchen while beautiful had no spices ie not even salt and pepper. The porch would have been more inviting if furniture and space had been cleaned. It became expensive for a weekend with all the fees attached and very large deposit required.
We went north to the Monterey aquarium, Point Lobos (good late afternoon, lots of wild life and wonderful views of the ocean). We also went south to Pfeiffer Big Sur SP and further south to McWay falls. Buzzard Roost trail was really nice. Lots of good restaurants in Carmel. The house is wonderfully comfortable and attractive. Washer drier brand new and perfect for clothes after hiking.
Fantastic place for a weekend away
All the charm of a rustic beach house with an absolutely pristine interior. Kitchen was so well appointed, decor throughout was lovely, and the outdoor area was spacious and perfect for a relaxing weekend away from the city. Couldn’t recommend this wonderful home more!
Perfect place to get away in Carmel!
We absolutely loved it. Stayed 2 nights in this well appointed house, had everything we could have wanted. Nicely decorated too. Very "homey". It came through as the real deal. Must admit that we're a little jealous that it isn't our house, lol. Will likely stay there again next time we're in Carmel (it was roughly ten minutes from downtown btw). Great price for what you get compared to a cold, overpriced hotel room... as most places in the area are quite expensive. Close enough to Big Sur as well. We stayed there two nights camping and the short drive up to Carmel went by quickly thanks to the beautiful coastline. Loved it!
Perfect house for a girl's trip!
My two friends and I booked this house for our girl's trip and it was perfect for us! There is a grocery store nearby so we were able to have our morning coffee and breakfast on the patio. We booked a private winery tour with Mountains to the Bay tour company and they picked us up, took us to 4 wineries in the San Lucia Highlands and brought us back to the house. If you are a wine drinker I highly recommend it. If you are a nature lover I recommend going to nearby Point Lobos Park and driving to Big Sur to see McWay Falls. Stop for a drink or some food at Napenthe on the way back! We ate at From Scratch in Carmel, Beach House at Lover's Point and Demetra in Carmel-by-the-Sea and they were all fantastic! The only issue we had with the house was the fire pit that we couldn't get to work, I sent a message to the property owner and left her a voicemail and never heard back from her.
Wow - what a beautiful home
My family and I visited this beautiful home in August 2018. We were completely blown away by it. The photographs don't do it justice, as the house is completed to a very high spec. The house caters to your every need and is so easily accessible. We loved our stay and would not consider staying anywhere else when we return.
