Overview

About the property

Private Bedroom, Full Bath W/ Footed Tub, Living Room With Tree Top Deck.

A peaceful retreat easy on the eyes; art and nature are everywhere inside and out. Our place just North of Asheville, is in an entirely private and wooded setting. We are 6 miles from Asheville; well known for its art, beer, culture, outdoor playgrounds, and exceptional restaurants. Mountain Tea is a quiet respite from busy days of doing and seeing in the Asheville area. (4-night maximum stay) Outdoor shower coming soon!

We are 15 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway and a quarter mile from the French Broad River; a favorite of kayakers and tubers. A popular place to put in, Ledges Whitewater Park, is about a mile from us.

My husband, Mark and I are visual artists. Included in the center of our long-planned dream studio is the private guest area that includes a gallery/living room area, private bedroom w/ queen size bed, and a full bathroom with footed tub.

The setting is tranquil and private. Suitable for couples, business travelers, and adventurers. You will have a private secure entrance to your space which opens to an extended deck and seating area.

You will stay in three private rooms, the gallery/living room, a separate bedroom and a full bathroom with footed tub. The living room area opens to a tree level deck with chairs. Parking is available next to the studio. The living room has a coffee maker, a microwave, toaster, and small refrigerator. Plates and utensils provided. The bedroom night table has a multi-plug for charging. A simple breakfast is provided.

Our studios are on either side of the guest quarters. We seldom work at night and will respect your privacy on the rare occasion when we need to be in the studio in the evening. We live in a log cabin on the property. The studio bathroom will be yours and private during your stay.

A small, private group of families live off this short dirt lane. We share the main road (Mountain Tea Lane) that is not two-way and is a dead end. Take care when leaving and returning to Mountain Tea Lane and please yield to oncoming cars when space permits.

You will need a car to get around. The dirt driveway is short but steep and winding. A four-wheel drive vehicle is best. Front wheel drive is a minimal must. Slow and steady will get you there. However, you do have the option to walk. There is a parking spot at the bottom of the driveway, and we are happy to pick you up.

Thank you for considering Mountain Tea for your upcoming trip.

About Kristy Higby

Mountain TEA Studios is a creative life partnership between two contemporary visual artists: Mark Flowers and Kristy Higby. Creating and teaching art has been at the heart of their dedicated partnership for 40 years.

Kristy Higby purchased this studio in 2004

Why Kristy Higby chose Weaverville

In Japan, they call it shinrin-yoku – literally, “forest bathing.” Scientists have advanced a wide range of theories about the specific physical and mental benefits nature can provide, ranging from clean air and lack of noise pollution to the apparent immune-boosting effects of a fine mist of “wood essential oils.” But the most powerful benefits, a new study suggests, may result from the way trees and birds and sunsets gently tug – but never grab – at our attention.

Peaceful

It was a pleasure to stay in an actual art gallery. The windows and porch made it feel like we were staying in a tree house. Mark was an awesome host, generous in every way. We would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful and Relaxing Studio Loft

  • 5 of 5

My fiancée and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Mountain Tea. Pictures do not do it justice! Open and Airy with a great claw foot bath tub, and a spacious deck over looking the trees. It felt amazing coming home from exploring to such a beautifully decorated and art filled home. It's only about 15 minutes from Asheville. Mark is a wonderful host. friendly and laid back. Take a car with 4 wheel drive our city car couldn't make it up their main driveway but they let you borrow their Subaru which was a lot of fun to drive! We will be back for sure.

Perfect Mountain Haven

  • 5 of 5

Secluded, quiet and inspiring, Mountain Tea is a perfect place for contemplation, relaxation and work - if that's your motive. Far from the demands and distractions of daily routines (but not so far you can't check your email or grab a pie and a craft beer at Blue Mountain Pizza), the property provides the mental and physical space to escape or engage life. Both Kristy and Mark are not only talented and sincere artists, but masters at living simply and honestly with people and their surroundings. I feel privileged to count myself among those who discovered and were welcomed to their mountain haven.

Asheville is a short drive along the French Broad River (or the interstate if you're in a hurry), boasting a blooming art scene at Riverside and a thriving downtown community with restaurants and entertainment to suit.

Outdoor activities include multiple river access points and as much camping and hiking as anyone could ever do. I personally enjoyed coming and going up the access road - offroad vehicle required - and getting enough mountain time to hear something in my head besides the next task to check off the list.

I could write more, but I think I've gushed enough ;) Thank you Kristy and Mark. Looking forward to the next.

Owner's Response: You were our ideal guest, Jeff. Tuned into the natural surroundings and into the Asheville scene. Our driveway is surely a mountain road, but we have a loaner Subaru to get you up and down the driveway if you have a 'city' car:) Looking forward to your next visit to Mountain Tea!
