About Larry and Cindy Sexton

We are from the Orlando area ,where Larry was a firefighter for 30 years. Now that he is retired we live here in the mountains of North Carolina six months our of the year. We bought here at the Fish Camp Cottages in 2009. We came here to visit and fell in love with the cottages and bought one right then and there. We love living here so much that in 2015 we bought another cottage and named it the Old Creel Cottage. One of the first things Larry bought when we bought our cottage was and antique fishing creel. It was one of our favorite things , The Old Creel Cottage it had to be! We love having our second cottage , seeing the guests come and go ,having a nice relaxing time! It gives us such joy to be able to share our love of the Fish Camp Cottage Community.

Larry and Cindy Sexton purchased this cottage in 2016

Why Larry and Cindy Sexton chose Newland

We came here in 2009 to visit and fell in love with the area and the Fish Camp Community. We love the area because it is centrally located to everything. Cindy has childhood memories of going to Camp Yonahlossee one whole summer. She has loved these mountains ever since and has such fond memories of Grandfather Mountain and the whole area! In our opinion it just the best area to be!

What makes this cottage unique

Out in the country feel but yet ,not isolated and a safe neighborhood

Centrally located to anything you might want to do.

Relaxing peaceful place to be! Sit on the porch and relax by the river!!!

Just a great place to come and lose the drama!!!

WOWSER!!! Relaxation starts here at the Old Fireman's Cottage!

  • 5 of 5

If you're looking for a quiet and peaceful stay, this is your place!!! Was a perfect getaway for our family of 4 (including two boys). We loved wading out in the Linville River and trying our luck with the fly rods, which is just a few steps away from the covered back porch. When we weren't fishing, we visited the local towns and drove on the Blue Ridge Parkway for some gorgeous scenery. Grandfather Mountain and Linville Falls are close-by, plus the town of Blowing Rock and Boone are about 45 minutes away. The owners, Larry & Cindy, are gracious hosts and have everything available that you would need to make your stay as special as ours. True southern hospitality at its finest! Everything was neat and extremely clean, including the gorgeous flower boxes and planters. The cottage décor was beautifully done in honor of Larry's service as a fireman. By far, one of our most favorite vacation stays ever...just wish it had been longer!!! Our deepest appreciation to the Sexton's for sharing their lovely cottage with us.

A true gem in a mountain setting!

  • 5 of 5

The Old Fireman's Cottage is just as cute as it can be...very comfy and cozy! We really enjoyed looking over all the fireman's memorabilia. Everything is very neat and clean. They have thought of everything to make your stay enjoyable ... and then some. The large back porch overlooking the Linville River enables you to rock and watch the busy activity of the birds and listen to the peaceful ripple of the river. A great place to enjoy a cup of coffee!

We were there for the Highland Games, but we would love to return some time just to enjoy it all again.

Awesome river front property

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is a 1 bedroom, 1 bath and a sofa in the tv room with a very comfortable pullout mattress. It is really cozy and has a warm at home feel to it. It sits right on the linville river. Also there is allot of wild life including chipmunks, humming birds we even saw a pair of deer from the wrap around porch. My son enjoyed waking up and going to play in the river. Larry and Cindy are very personable people and enjoyed talking with them. Would definitely recommend this to any couple or a small family. I plan on setting up a trip to go back next year.
