If you came to Iceland to get away from it all and immerse yourself in authentic Iceland, visit Eyrarbakki. Eyrarbakki is a small village with a rich history, and just far enough off the beaten path. Only 10 minutes from Selfoss and Highway 1, many of Iceland's natural pearls are less than 1 hour's drive. This includes the Golden Circle (Thingvellir, Gullfoss waterfall, and Geysir Geothermal area), as well as Seljalandsfoss (the waterfall you can walk behind), the Blue Lagoon, and many others. Downtown Reykjavík is also just 45 minutes away.
Our apartment is located in the old fish factory (build in 1944) in the middle of the village. Don't worry, it doesn't smell like fish—but it is right on the seaside. You can walk out your door and up to the seaside path that runs the length of the village.
The studio is brand-new construction. We welcomed our first guests in July 2016. It has everything you need for a comfortable stay. It has a kitchen with refrigerator, microwave, stove, and Senseo coffee maker (stocked with coffee and tea). There is a comfortable large double/king size bed (180x200cm) and a double sofa bed (140x200cm) with high-quality linens and warm, fluffy duvets.
There is a shop just next-door that carries all essentials, and an excellent restaurant just a short walk away. Many buildings in town are nearly or more than 100 years old and many are named. Enjoy a stroll through the historic village or down the seaside path and enjoy a slow pace of life.
