Wish we could have stayed longer!

  • 5 of 5

We chose this location because of the dog-friendly policy. We ended up not bringing them - but they would have loved it. Very cozy, spacious home. Enjoyed the kiva fireplace and the fully stocked kitchen. Very welcoming feeling. Within walking distance to the plaza on a nice day. Easy drive to the ski resort. We hope to be back!

Owner's Response: Hi Lauren, thanks so much for your prompt review! You covered so much of what makes this home so special! It really is a great combination of spacious yet cozy and I don't just mean the radiant heated floors either. The great room area is welcome and inviting yet the home is so perfect for two couples since bedrooms are nicely divided and each has a private full bath. Perfect for together time with the kiva fireplace but private time too for everyone. I'm glad you mentioned the well equipped kitchen. We pride ourselves having whatever guests might need for home cooking. As you mentioned the location is also ideal. It's a short walk to the Plaza and a 1/2 hour to ski valley. Next time bring your dogs to the fenced back yard and stay longer. Your short visit was just a teaser. By summer we will have landscaped the yard, have big containers with flowers and on the rear portal (covered patio) there will be table and chairs and a BBQ for summer fun. Melissa

Welcoming, beautifully furnished, clean, spacious, dog friendly and a short walk to the plaza!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at Sonido del Sol! You can tell the house is owned by someone who really cares about it and wants it to be a welcoming place for visitors: it just has good energy! The house is beautifully furnished and decorated and was perfectly clean upon our arrival.

The owners put together a friendly and helpful binder of information that shared with us everything we needed to know about the house.

The layout of the house is great; it feels spacious, but not too big, and there's plenty of room to stretch out and relax. The radiant heat flooring is quite cozy and nice in the mornings.

We really loved how quiet and serene the location of the house is -- especially considering that it's just a short walk from the house to Taos Plaza! We walked to the Plaza every day during our stay for lunch or dinner or to browse the galleries and museums.

Our two dogs appreciated the fully-fenced back yard. Taos is very dog friendly (the excellent Burger Stand just a five minute walk from the house even allows dogs on their patio) and there's lots of great places fairly close to town to walk dogs.

We originally planned to stay two nights at Sonido del Sol but extended our stay to seven nights -- we're glad we did and we hope to visit Taos again next year. If we do, we'll be staying here!

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review. Don't know why you found it "a little cool" There is radiant floor heating throughout with thermostat set on 70 degrees. Also down comforters on both beds and cozy robes although a fire in the morning or evening is always welcome.

Need more heat!

  • 4 of 5

Elegant and lovely New Mexican style house, beautifully decorated. Quiet. Charming neighborhood in the Taos spirit. Enclosed yard for my dog. (though the neighbor's dog somehow found a hole in the fence and came to visit!). We came to write for the weekend and really enjoyed the privacy. We would definitely come again, but we have some suggestions. Another degree of heat (1-2) would have made a huge difference. It was blowy and cold outside and we had to wear many layers of fleece to keep warm inside the house. The radiant heat apparently takes days to adjust so we could not change the setting. Another throw on the couch would help. More cut kindling for the fireplace would help make fires. The kitchen dishes were beautiful, and generally the kitchen had what we need. But the knives were old and dull and hard to work with. The sink sponge was truly scary looking, so we bought another one. How about a french press? :) A mop would be useful for spills. We liked the notebook with instructions, and looked for the checkout time, but didn't find it. More listings of local restaurant choices would be great. Melissa was very helpful.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review. Always nice to get compliments, but suggestions are important too so thank you for your comments and suggestions. I'd better check that back fence line! I really thought we had dog proofed it, but obviously needs another look see. We have the heat for radiant floor heat turned to 70 degrees which seemed to suit all guests. Now you were here on that very cold and windy day so it probably did feel chilly. As you noted it takes a few days for radiant heat to show up so I'm sorry you were uncomfortable. We have ordered another couch throw-bigger and brighter color. No excuse for yucky sponge. I have told my housekeepers and made sure we had plenty of extras. They are in garage with other supplies including mop, vacuum, paper goods and cleaning supplies. Sound like we need new knives! These come with the house and I must admit I did not try them out. I know one of the reasons guests choose a vacation rental instead of a B&B or hotel is they want to cook at home and sharp knives definitely are an important part of a well equipped kitchen. I'll have my handyman cut more kindling too since a cozy fire is always an important part of a vacation in Taos. Please do come back again to enjoy the house and new knives and lots of sponges! We will be landscaping the garden area this summer, buying patio dining furniture and getting a BBQ so there's lots to look forward to in subsequent visits. Melissa

Owner's Response: Thanks for your prompt review. Yes this home offers so much. As you said it is warm and welcoming. Modern construction with a traditional feel. Spacious and bright, radiant floor heat, a dishwasher, washer/dryer but also the nichos, banco, flagstone shelves high ceilings with viga beams and Saltillo tile floors that are all long standing Taos traditions and style. A perfect combination. Yes ,as you realizd one night is just a taste. Do return anytime for a longer stay with us.
