Honu Kai, which means 'Sea Turtle ' in the Hawaiian language, is the perfect Hawaiian home for friends and families no matter your vacation plans. Whether you plan to spend your days snorkeling in the Wai Opae Marine Sanctuary tidal pools or want to use the home as a "base camp" for exploring everything the Big Island has to offer, this is the place to be! The home has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms on the upper main level and a separate bathroom on the ground floor for showering after your swim.
Watch the sunrise from the >200 sq. ft. front lanai, take a bike ride through the neighborhood, or relax on the back lanai or back patio while enjoying the privacy that the tropical landscaping provides. On a clear night, you have never seen so many stars. Let the coqui frogs and crashing waves lull you to sleep while the trade winds keep you nice and cool day and night.
If you are an explorer, the home is approximately halfway between Volcanoes National Park and Hilo. Nearby attractions include the Champagne Pond and Ahalanui hot pond for more swimming and snorkeling. Drive down the scenic Red Road and watch the surfers at Isaac Hale Beach Park or continue on to Uncle Robert's for the Wednesday night festivities. Check out the Maku'u Farmers' Market every Sunday and/or the Hilo Farmers' Market every Wednesday and Saturday for local food and crafts.
In the South and North Hilo areas, go to the Mauna Loa mac nut center, walk the bay front, check out the numerous parks and shops, explore Waianuene (Rainbow) Falls and the Kaumana Caves, drive the 4 mile scenic route to the Tropical Botanical Gardens and stop off at Low Store for awesome shave ice. Continue north to Akaka Falls and Laupahoehoe Beach Park.
Heading south in Puna and down to Kau, there is the fragrant and beautiful Akatsuka Orchid Gardens, the Volcanoes National Park (hiking trails, lava tubes, the caldera), Punalu’u black sand beach (you are almost guaranteed to see Honu warming themselves on the black sand but make sure to keep a healthy distance), and then check out South Point – the southernmost part of the entire USA!
Kapoho Vacationland is a wonderful, peaceful community that we have fallen in love with over the past 5 years and we look forward to sharing it with you!
