The cabin itself is very well laid out. Great to have a pool table, we played that a lot. Used the hottub too, that was nice. Nice furniture in the den. Having 2 kitchen tables was great. Plenty of room to spread out. TV in every room. The only negatives were the fact that the beds were noisy. Every time someone got up in the other rooms you could hear them. The kitchen could use some more cookware. We are always prepared because we take what we need but there were absolutely no bowls for more mixing or serving. There were plenty of towels for everyone and we just washed them between uses. The kitchen was very dark. Could use more lighting. Upstairs back deck porch rail was loose and needs.to be fixed. Overall good place to stay, good location and great view. Make sure before you book any cabin in Hidden Springs that you check on the.parking availability. This cabin has plenty of room to park 5 cars, but some of them do not and that could be a problem.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Shakonohey! There were ten of us and we had plenty of room for everyone to spread out and enjoy themselves. It was only five minutes or so from Dollywood. We had a great time searching for and finding the hidden rolled up dollar bills that are a tradition at this cabin! It was also fun leaving hints and a couple of dollars hidden for the next guests! Be sure to look in the guest book for your clues!
Mr. Vaughan needs to replace the cookware! It has been used a lot and is scratched up and is no longer non-stick. The skillets were warped and wouldn't sit level on the stove. We did a lot of cooking! The pots and pans were not big enough for our crowd. Plus, there were no bowls to use for serving food. This was our major complaint!
Even with the lack of kitchen utensils, we would stay there again! You can't beat the convenience and view!
Stayed during a recent family vacation to the Smokies. The cabin was amazing. There is a beautiful view of the mountains, and it is very spacious. It could easy fit more than one family. Really enjoyed spending time out in the back porch, especially in the outdoor hot tub. The cabin was very clean and the pool table was an extra perk. Overall great cabin and will definitely be back soon.
When choosing a cabin for our vacation I went to home away.com to check out the potential listings for our vacation trip. This one by far met all of our needs as far as the size of the cabin and all the bedrooms along with the accommodations for a large number of people. We were able to all have enough bedrooms enough space to be able to have our own time as well as family time in the great room and the views were absolutely beautiful I could wake up to that view every day of my life. I loved being so close to everything, we were in the middle of Pigeon Forge and in the middle Gatlinburg and it took us maybe five minutes to get to the main roads to get to everything we wanted to do. Overall this cabin was by far the best cabin I have ever stayed at in the smoky mountains and the owner made sure make our stay great! He provided detailed information about our arrival and our departure and was there whenever I need to call or text him for anything!
The cabin was clean and our party of 10 had a great time. The view was spectacular. It was close to attractions and grocery stores. I would recommend this cabin for anyone wanting to stay in the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area for a great vacation! Thank you Van!
The Shak is a new, two story, big, well furnished and clean cabin perfectly located 10 minutes from the main street of Pigeon Forge up on a mountain overlooking the Smoky Mountains. The website doesn’t do it justice, you have to be there to fully appreciate it.
We had never been to Pigeon Forge & Gatlinburg area before, so when my daughter suggested our next family vacation should be in Pigeon Forge, we all agreed. There are 3 generations of us: My wife and I (upper 50’s), our two girls and their husbands (mid to lower 30’s) and our three grandchildren (14, 10 and 1).
We stayed in The Shak for one week. The cabin is new and well kept. It is clean and like our grandchild said, “Wow ! There is a TV is every room !”
Upstairs there is a big living area, full kitchen and two kitchen tables….a long one that seated all 9 of us (like you might have in a formal dining room) and a normal sized one (like you might have in the nook.) The upstairs is where we played cards and board games….and the TV usually had a cooking show on.
Downstairs was where the pool table crowd and the hot tub crowd stayed. The TV was usually tuned to the sports channel.
With 9 of us, we used the clothes washer and dryer a lot ! Oh, and the indoor spa whirlpool bathtub seemed to be in constant use, too. Very relaxing !
Pigeon Forge is a perfect place for a family vacation. Looking out the back porches, we could see the Smoky Mountains. In that direction is where we rode horses, zip-lined, white-water rafted, golfed, hiked and, yes, saw a bear ! In the other direction of the cabin is the town of Pigeon Forge. This is where we saw three wonderful evening shows (a dinner theater variety show, a magic show and a comedy show), spent a day at Dollywood (only a mile from the cabin), the ladies had a spa day and Gatlinburg was only a 15 – 20 minute drive away.
Van, the owner, is a very nice person. After booking our cabin, he gave us some useful tips that really helped make our trip more enjoyable. He owns another cabin, just like the Shak, only a few cabins down the road, so he was able to better accommodate our vacation scheduling. During our week stay, we called him once to ask a question and he was very helpful. He very much wanted us to enjoy our vacation. This is the kind of person we like to rent from.
It is going to be hard to find a better vacation town and cabin than what we just had. So….we’ll certainly go back ! Thank you Van !
