Castillo San Pancho is an architectural adventure in space and concept; a mix of the past and future with a sense of a castle yet with modern features, design without compromise, energy efficient and full of surprise. We designed and built Castillo as our personal retirement retreat, our escape, our Mexican medicine, our getaway. Until we can afford to retire, we are offering the Castillo to discriminating guests who appreciate our penchant for unique architecture and design.
FLOORPLAN: The ground floor includes the Sala (living room) and Cocina (kitchen), spacious and joined. Off the Sala is a covered Patio with seating and dining areas, leading to the dipping pool with a built-in color light show. The second floor has master and guest bedroom with baths, and a studio/third bedroom with bath and separate entrance. Off the Studio and Guest Bedroom is a Terrace with stairs leading to a smaller terrace and down to ground level. Both the Studio and the Master Bedroom have Balconies with neighborhood views.
The top level has a rooftop deck we call the Aerie, where we would keep falcons, if we had any. The roof deck has a commanding view of the neighborhood, the Sierra Madres to the East and over the town to the West. Overall, inside space is 170 M2 (1,700 Ft2) with an additional 70 M2 (700 Ft2) of outdoor living space on three terraces and a patio.
We have features seldom found in Mexican vacation homes in quaint villages.
"WATER, WATER EVERYWHERE AND ALL OF IT FIT TO DRINK": All the water in the house is drinkable, passing through industrial sized sediment filters down to 0.5 microns, with carbon filters for clarity and taste. Every sink has a smaller tap for super-drinkable water using additional filtration and Ultra-Violet lamp sterilization.
"TRUST IN GOD, BUT TIE YOUR CAMEL FIRST" Security is important in any tourist area, so we have what we call Fort Knox doors with industrial-strength hinges, multiple latches and a locking steel plate. All the downstairs windows have heavy decorative grills so windows can be left open at night for ventilation. Sliding glass doors have standard strong locks..
The exterior is lighted at night plus there are additional motion-trigger lights..
SKEETERS AND NOSEEUMS: The Mexican government is doing a great job at mosquito suppression and we have seen fewer Aedes Aegypti (which carry the bad bugs) than anytime in the past decade. Still, with Zika and Dengue, we always take care. We keep the best forms of mosquito repellent available at Castillo for your use.
ELEVATOR/DUMBWAITER: (at extra charge of $ 20/day) We have the only Dumbwaiter and one-person Elevator in San Pancho. The elevator can carry food and drinks to the second-floor or to the Aerie roof deck. It can also handle one person only, maximum weight 250 pounds. The platform is too small for a wheelchair and a person, so if needed, the wheelchair goes to the roof separately. The elevator is designed for the mature (like us) for which a lot of stairs are tiring, intimidating or dangerous. It is not a fun-ride for kids, Please.
CHILDREN are welcome at Castillo, but not encouraged due to safety and convenience concerns.. Castillo is designed for 6 adults, and is not really ideal for young children. There are concrete stairways, roof decks, one bedroom a bit remote (purposely) from the center of activity, a pool too deep for children, and more stairs outside, and no enclosed area where children could play unattended. For safety, children should be constantly monitored and not allowed to run free at Castillo.
HAVE A LARGE GROUP?; family reunion, corporate retreat, wedding party?
There are three homes at the end of a cul-de-sac on a private street in a private development. Besides Castillo San Pancho, there is Casa Miel (across the street), Casa Mariposa (between Castillo and Miel).
Casa Mariposa (VRBO Listing #214301) has (3) bedrooms, 3.5 baths, (2) outdoor entertaining spaces, a pool and park-like expansive grounds. Casa Miel (VRBO Listing #151547) has (3) bedrooms, 2 baths, a covered veranda outdoor entertaining spaces, and a pool. All together, the three houses offer (9) bedrooms, (7) outdoor spaces, (3) pools, and elegant surroundings, cozy at the end of a cul-de-sac, a great combination for large groups.
Each property has to be negotiated separately. If interested, start with trying to book Casa Mariposa; it is the most popular, and most booked of all the three properties.
