About the property

House, 5 Bedrooms + Sunroom, 4.5 Baths, (Sleeps 14)

This magnificent beach house is nestled among towering pine trees on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay at its widest point (30 miles across) and features a private 200-foot long sand beach that is perfect for swimming.

Experience the beautiful sunrises over the Bay. Relax on the waterfront deck or the large flagstone patio and watch the sailboats and ships pass many miles offshore. Explore the coastline on two double sea kayaks included with the house rental.

The Chesapeake Bay is well-known as a bird lovers paradise. From the beach house you will see local osprey, great blue heron, bald eagles and pelican diving and catching fish. You may see a thousand Canadian geese arriving together to spend the night near shore. Cardinals, blue birds and other song birds also abound among the magnolias, azaleas, crepe myrtles, dogwoods, and towering pine trees.

Reedville is a small town of beautifully restored turn-of-the-century Victorian homes and great seafood restaurants. Local activity options abound. Charter a fishing or tour boat from a local marina. Take the daily ferry to Tangier or Smith Island, two picture perfect villages on islands in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay. Or bring your own boat and use the public boat ramp right down the road.

Explore the local farmers' markets or the Reedville Fisherman's Museum. Shop for art or antiques in nearby villages. Birdwatch at two Northern Neck nature preserves, golf at any of six local courses, or tour several nearby wineries. Explore the region's many historic attractions including the childhood homes of George Washington and Robert E. Lee.

The 4000 square foot house features an open floor plan and endless Bay views from every room. The huge great room features an antique wood-burning fireplace, 55' LCD Smart HDTV, large sectional sofa, and comfortable leather chairs. It is open to a kitchen with new stainless steel appliances and 4-person breakfast bar, and to a large dining room with table for 10. The huge front porch, giant all season sun/game room, or fully-screened rear porch are all perfect spots for breakfast with the family or to read a good book.

A large private studio apartment above the detached garage is included in the rental. It features a queen bed, twin sleep sofa, full bath, central air conditioning and heat, SAT TV/VCR/DVD, small kitchen and elevated deck with great Bay views. The apartment comfortably accommodates 2 adults or a small family and is perfect for extra relatives or friends.

In the main house, the upstairs king bedroom features a large in-suite full bathroom with double sinks. The upstairs queen bedroom includes an attached annex room with a full-size baby crib and shares 1 full and 1 half bath with the 'kids bedroom' featuring a pair of twin-over-double bunk beds. The queen bedroom on the first floor has a full bath directly across the hall.

The house also features a 12 x 10 private double outdoor shower with hot water.

Why Tom Lang chose Reedville

We had never been to the 'Northern Neck' of Virginia when we drove the 2.5 hours from Northern Virginia in late 2004 to look for a second home where our children, relatives, and friends could slow down and relax with us. We wanted a place on the water where we could swim, boat, kayak and play in the sand. We wanted a place without traffic, fences, and fast food restaurants. We wanted a place where our dogs could play in the woods, our kids could climb trees, and we could all spend quality family time together. We found exactly what we were looking for in this home.

What makes this house unique

We enjoy the sunrises over the Bay, relaxing on the hammock, lounging on the beach, and playing badminton, bocce and volleyball. We enjoy crab cake dinners and ice cream at the local ice-cream parlor. We enjoy biking and walking the country roads. We enjoy the local wineries, farmers markets and museums. We enjoy kayaking, fishing. paddleboarding and boating on the Bay.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a fabulous time playing foosball, in fact we held a foosball championship! Our dog, Josie could not stay away from the beach. Our favorite room was the game room but our favorite thing was watching the sun rise and set over the bBay. We got great pictures of it. We love the house and hope to come again soon!

Outstanding!

  • 5 of 5

The property was amazing inside as well as out!

We found the home to be beautiful, spotless, and well maintained.

Basic supplies - water, paper products, propane - in ample supply.

When we encountered a small problem with entry code, Mr. Lang responded immediately.

The grounds are, in my opinion, the most amazing part of this rental property! Large, beautifully maintained, an area of sandy beach for swimming and sand castle construction!

I personally enjoyed sitting by waters edge in the morning watching the sunrise.

The little ones especially enjoyed the sandy beach and swing/ slide set.

The first floor bedroom was perfect for our handicapped family member.

We did charter a nearby fishing boat one day of our stay, and hauled in an impressive catch providing that evenings meal!

A few trips into the quaint fishing town of Reedville - especially for an ice cream at Chitterchats - was enjoyed by both young and old! But, for the most part, the family enjoyed our time together in the quiet beauty of the immediate surroundings.

A small "catastrophe" occurred on our final day (a lost car key), and Mr. Lang did his best to be accommodating to our predicament.

I would absolutely recommend this property, especially if you need peace and beauty rather than hectic for your vacation!

April 2017

We were a group of 12 who came to enjoy the Chesapeake shore. Tom promises to return emails very quickly and we learnt to believe it - he really did! The house is terrific with lots of space. We always felt we had elbow room and the cottage above the garage is a big bonus. Even in April, we swam, kayaked, and rode bikes using the house equipment. The games room was a big hit with our teenagers with one night dedicated to a pink pong and foosball tournament. Equipment is serviceable. The kitchen had plenty of utensils and cutlery for our group and the dishwasher fit one meal's worth effectively. We went on a cruise with Captain Billy (Capt. Billy Charters) and we heartily recommend him - great trip, he was not in a rush, and a fount of information. The bedrooms were spacious, decently furnished and it was great not to have to bring everything with us. All in all we had a great time and would recommend it to you too. Oh, and who can turn down the opportunity to sit in a beach chair and watch a pair of nesting osprey including a chick? Amazing! Note: others have mentioned the "isolation". And none of our group could get consistent cell phone connection; however, the internet connection is excellent. Nearest store is several miles away. For us, being far from others was a plus but if you have to have noise and hubbub, this might not be your cup of tea.....

Lovely house, attractive location!

  • 5 of 5

The house is spacious and accommodating, with all the amenities we would want. The waterfront location is attractive and tranquil. We have seen great wildlife from the back porch including bald eagles, osprey and more. Sunrises over the bay, as well as moon rise in the evening, can be an added plus. The owner is responsive and communication is excellent.

We will plan to visit again!

Just gets better every year!

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful house has hosted a group of girlfriends and their kids over the past 8 years, so it really feels like home to us. It is spacious for everyone to have their space and yet the common areas are perfect for long conversations and catching up over great meals and wine. The bay offers easy access to swimming and water play and the sleepy town of Fleeton offers great biking and runs. Fresh seafood right down the road is a must. The owners have updated the house over the years and maintained it well, so it feels fresh every time we visit. We’ll continue to come back year over year as long as the Langs will let us!

WE HAD A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE FOR TWO WEEKS. UNBEATABLE LOCATION WITH AN EVER CHANGING CANVAS ALL DAY. GOOD WATER ACCESS. NEED SOME MUSCLE TO USE THE KAYAKS , BUT A MINOR CRITIQUE. IT IS EXPENSIVE , BUT WE FELT WELL WORTH THE MONEY. VERY WELL EQUIPPED AND FURNISHED. WE WERE ONLY 5 , BUT A LARGE FAMILY RE-UNION COULD BE ACCOMODTED. (14+.) Thanks Tom and Laura.
