Rustic Reckless Ranch

Bedrooms 2
Space 836 sq ft
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

This little jewel of a cabin is very private and quiet

Here comes winter! Escape to an elevation of nearly 7000 feet above sea level, where the snow is! Come up and enjoy the mountain at its finest! This rustic cabin was built in the early 1900's. The lot is just over 1/2 acre, fully fenced in property with plenty of trees. The cabin sits in the middle of the lot and has been lovingly restored, keeping the original charm complete with knotty pine walls and a wood burning fireplace. This cabin is one of the last original fishing/hunting cabins left in Big Bear. Bring your warm clothes and snow boots! Reckless Ranch is located in Boulder Bay approx, 3 miles from village shops, movies, fine dining and Summit ski resort. Note: fire pit is seasonal-not available in the winter.

About The Owner

We moved to Big Bear in 2012 for a job oppurtunity, we bought Reckless Ranch two years later and have enjoyed living here and renovating her. Sadly we have to relocate again and decided to rent her out so we can still enjoy her when in town. I am a Doctor of Nursing Practice and my expertise is internal medicine and my husband is semi retired. We met and married in these local mountains and are still coming back 38 years later!

The Owner purchased this cabin in 2014

Why The Owner chose Big Bear Lake

Very private, not right next to another cabin! We are only the second owners in almost 100 years. The cabin is,almost all original, just warmer. If you want to relax, this is the place!

What makes this cabin unique

Large property, jaccuzzi, very cozy

I really enjoyed your home. It was filled with the feel of a wooded cottage, with it's cinnamon colored walls, fire place and abundance of pine cones, it's just what we needed for a great get away. Many thanks, Nanc

This was our second time staying here and we loved it as much as the first time. Not a lot of snow this time, but it was still very fun and we had some good quality family time. Colleen was very helpful and she has amazing communication, answering questions to help plan a great trip. The cabin is always clean and well stocked with all the necessities. We brought some items to make breakfast and had everything to cook at our fingertips! Such a perfect location too. Close to everything! Thank you again!

My GF and my two daughters loved this quaint cabin. We spent every night in the jacuzzi, cooked meals with the well stocked kitchen (including a great coffee machine and griddle), hiked, made fires in the fireplace with all the wood provided, and were able to get to town in minutes due to the great location.

We did have a small issue before we arrived. We looked voraciously for a cabin that had a fire pit as we wanted to hang outside and make marshmallows. Plus my girls and I live in an apartment so any outdoor activities were definitely on the agenda. There was one pictured in the photo gallery next to the jacuzzi with a caption reading "fire pit ready next to jacuzzi". I found out the day we were heading to the cabin, that is wasn't there anymore. Colleen spoke to the owners and they compensated me for the confusion and disappointment quickly and efficiently. They resolved it above and beyond what was necessary and it was truly appreciated since we would have never booked this one if we knew it wasn't there.

That said, it was so clean, charming and quiet and we made do. Colleen was very helpful throughout the weekend. It was a wonderful way to start the new year. Highly recommend!

The Rustic Ranch cabin was perfect for our little family! So clean and well stocked, beautiful from the inside out! We had a blast watching our little ones sled in the yard and it was so convenient not having to take them anywhere to have some snow fun! The layout of the cabinet was ideal for small families because you can see in every room from the sofa. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed to make a yummy pancake breakfast for our first snowy morning. The heater works great and the fireplace was so cozy to cuddle up with hot cocoa and the kids. We enjoyed our meals at the large dining table which was perfect for us! We loved all the windows in the house so we could see the beautiful snow outside all day. One of the nights, we decided to stay in because it was raining and we found a Chinese restaurant to deliver. It's called Dynasty and the food was great! They delivered in about 20 minutes! The jacuzzi looked so inviting, but we couldn't go in with the kids because it was a bit too cold outside. However, next time we visit, we will definitely be taking a dip in there! The bathroom was quaint and luxurious with super soft towels and rugs. The heater in the bathroom was perfect for morning showers! The beds and linens were amazing! Coleen and Sue were great, answering all of our questions promptly prior to booking and arriving and set up our little trip for success. We made some amazing memories and we will definitely be back. I see a family tradition in our future! I highly highly recommend Rustic Ranch to couples for romantic stays and for families for time with the family.

Winter Wonderland-The Perfect Little Cabin

  • 5 of 5

My family LOVED this cabin. We are a family of 5, with 3 little girls & it was perfect!

The cabin has beautiful original details and charm along with lots of upgrades and new appliances. It's cozy, but not too small. The beds are extra comfy with really fluffy nice down comforters. The decor was charming, they even had pretty battery operated candles on timers that added a nice touch. The kitchen had a new range, mini fridge and wine fridge. It was perfect for easy cooking. We loved sitting by the fire and watching Netflix.

The backyard was great; very spacious and fenced. Our kids loved it!! It was filled with snow and perfect for a little sledding and snowman building. We even enjoyed an evening in the snow in the spa. The hot tub was a fun extra touch!

Everything was clean and in good condition. The owner was great at communicating with us the entire stay. The location was great too; just a few minutes drive to the town and walking distance to the lake. We visited the zoo, a sledding park just down the road and a nice lunch spot in town. I really only have great things to say about our stay and would recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet and nice get away!!

Great cabin with charm, character and history, but has been upgraded to include many modern conveniences. We loved the fire place and jacuzzi. Lots of space in the backyard for a friendly snowball fight!
