Originally built in 1870 by local Architect/builders Grimball and Chaplin, this 4 bedroom, 3 1/2 Bath multi-level townhome can be rented combined with the downstairs Garden apartment (Grimball-Chaplin House A) and the two-story upstairs residence to provide accommodations for up to 12 people.
Guests will be met with the original Architectural style of the Victorian District of Savannah. The original parlor has been divided into two rooms - a large bedroom and the living room. The bedroom features a beautiful King bed, floor to ceiling windows, grand high ceilings and ample closet space. There is a 39 inch Smart TV in the bedroom. There is a half bath on this level of the home, as well as a washer and Dryer.
The Main house living area features a 50 inch Smart TV, along with ample seating, and the sofa has a Queen size bed for additional guests. The updated kitchen is fully equipped with a modern feel. The dining area has dining for 6 guests. The stainless appliances include a full-size refrigerator, oven a gas stove top, a microwave and a dishwasher to make you feel at home.
Just off the kitchen, French doors lead to a covered porch with comfortable seating for 4 along with a bistro table and chairs for two. There is a gas grill for guest use. The back courtyard is fenced for privacy. The courtyard is shared with the downstairs unit.
The main architectural feature of this home is the elegant staircase. Upstairs are two guest bedrooms. There is a handsomely appointed King bedroom with Smart TV, as well as a tastefully decorated Queen bedroom with attached updated bathroom. The bathroom features subway tile and marble throughout, and a walk in luxurious shower.
The Lower unit, Grimball-Chaplin House A has a separate entrance. This unit is a 1 Bedroom with a King bed, 1 Bath, a fully equipped kitchen and washer and dryer. The upstairs and downstairs share a courtyard in the back of the home.
There is free street parking, and there is 1 assigned off-street parking available behind the courtyard (access parking from the lane behind the home.)
Grimball-Chaplin house is a great option for couples, or families visiting the area. Many SCAD buildings are a short distance away, which makes it a great spot for visiting family members, or prospective student groups. The home is just a short 3 1/2 blocks away from beautiful Forsyth Park. It is a great choice for picnics, outdoor sports, walking, and jogging. This is also where you will find the famous Forsyth fountain and is a popular spot for weddings in Savannah. Just bordering the south end of the park is a local natural foods grocery, Brighter Day, and a local favorite coffee shop, The Sentient Bean. For Fine Dining options, Enjoy a stroll through Forsyth Park, and visit 700 Drayton on the East side of Forsyth Park, or Local 11Ten - just south of Forsyth Park. Historic Savannah can be toured and enjoyed by guests. The Savannah History Museum is less than 1 mile away, and Historic River Street is within 2 miles.
