Perfect spot for a big group looking to get away.
Grounds and pool were gorgeous and the house had plenty of space for numerous adults and children to enjoy. Host was available at all times and even stopped by to re-give us a lesson on a couple of the amenities. Great overall experience. Would definitely recommend.
Fabulous/Full of Amenities/Perfect for Large Group
Our family…a party of nine, ranging in age from a 3 years to very young retirees….spent 4 glorious days at this classic Addison Mizner home, built in 1911. The house is huge….7 bedrooms, 7 baths….embellished with antiques and vintage furnishings, and loaded with amenities, including a billiard room, theater, pinball, ping-pong, foosball, bocce, tennis courts, swimming pool w/volleyball net…and Michael, the owner, could not have been more gracious or accessible. We were supplied with a listing of restaurants, grocery stores, hiking trails, tubing opportunities, and boat rentals, and though we did spend one day on Twin Lakes in a pontoon and one afternoon on a trail, our best times were truly spent just hanging around and enjoying Rock Hall. We imagine that in its heyday, this house must have been pristine and spectacular, but it is, sadly, in need of a good, deep cleaning, a bit of TLC, and some repair (as an example, the main level A/C does not work). There are also some things that are a bit finicky, including the (really cool!) 1960’s Vulcan range/oven and the pool heater, but, in all honesty, none of this detracted from our enjoyment and our overall experience. If our next family retreat takes us back to the Berkshires, we would welcome another stay at Rock Hall. With that, we do recommend this VRBO/HOMEAWAY property, warts and all. Thank you, Michael, for a great few days! We had a ball!!
Incredibly Picturesque Stay
My entire family stayed here for 4 nights after Christmas. It was amazing. The house has wonderful summertime amenities, but for the winter, it is truly amazing. In the snow, the house doubled in charm. The fireplace in the living room is beautiful and romantic. The kitchen is charming and has it quirks, but it is equipped for lots of cooking. My favorite was the butler's pantry. The bedrooms on the second floor are so lovely and very spacious. The furniture, bedding, everything is of excellent quality and shape. The spare bedrooms on the third floor were so handy and comfortable as well.
With 8 adults and 3 children and 1 newborn baby, we were beyond comfortable and very happy. The game room and movie room were so entertaining. We spent a lot of time on the first floor which was really nice. We would break off into smaller groups based on interest in game or activity. We had lots and lots of room to spread out, but were still in earshot of each other, which was nice. The owner was so helpful and very nice.
I would highly recommend staying at Rock Hall!
Our family of 9 adults and 6 children had a memorable and enjoyable 5 night stay at RockHall.
The Mansion and grounds are formidable with many activities for the adults and children. The game room, pool table and media room were unexpected bonuses, while the exercise facilities, the tennis, bikes and of course the pool were thoroughly enjoyable. The pinball machine actually worked perfectly. Fires at night by the pool were memorable. The kids could explore the grounds and pick blueberries. while the adults enjoyed the evening card games in the richly appointed library, and daytime tennis. The many bedrooms are very nicely appointed indeed, all are spacious with on-suites. Two rooms are central air conditioned, while all others were adequately air conditioned independently. For those that needed to conduct some business, the WiFi was more than adequate.
The owner, Michael, was very accommodating, and available with answers to any questions. The only negative we had was due to inadequate housekeeping upon arrival. This was quickly remedied, and Michael acknowledge this shortfall by refunding 9% of our total rental fee. This was not requested, and very much appreciated. We would recommend RockHall, and will consider a return visit as time permits. Jackie and Joe
Great property for large family get together
I recently rented the house for my husband's 40th birthday. There were a total of 10 adults and 4 kids. And, it was the best thing I could have done. The property is huge and beautiful. The rooms and bathrooms were very clean. Michael was there when we arrived and showed us around. He also helped me with names of caterers (which turned out great by the way) and always responded to any questions (prior to our stay) very promptly.
The entire family, which varied in age from 72 years to 4 years, had a great time. We hung out in the pool, played in the game room, watched a movie in the movie room, and the kids loved exploring inside and outside.
The only cons I can think of are that the house is a little dark, but there are enough lights to compensate for that.
My favorite part of the house was the walk in refrigerator. Loved it!!
Overall, it was the perfect weekend, and I would definitely do it again.
