Overview

About the property

Studio Apartment with Lake Front Access in the Heart of Northwest Michigan

This is a adorable newly remodeled cottage on beautiful Crooked Lake just north of Petoskey. It is approximately 550 square feet with a single bedroom, a loft (can sleep two), kitchen with basic supplies, full bath with shower, stack washer/dryer, cable tv, and Internet. This cottage has lake access. This is also ideal for a ski trip get-a-way located only 5 minutes from Boyne Highlands. Would be the perfect place for couples or a young family. You will fall in love with this cottage.

This property during the summer and fall has lake front access with a dock right on the property if you would like to bring your boat or jet skis. The cottage also comes with a fire pit, small beach, and kayaks. If you would like to rent a boat with a motor, this will come with a daily charge.

The apartment has two sleeping areas (a bedroom and a loft). Both have queen beds and sleeps four very comfortably. This is a newly remodeled cottage that much of the wood decorative walls are from the original cottage. Also, this was ounce a building with a thriving music and game business. The name of the business was "Hewitt & Son, Inc." thus the name "The Hewitt Cottage"

Prior to the business being run from the home and surrounding buildings, in the early 1900's a industrial lumber company housed itself on this waterfront property. It is very common to see large timber at the bottom of the lake just off the shore line. As you are boating, look for these large structures.

About Clark Hewitt

Welcome! My name is Clark Hewitt. I oversee the property that is in my Mom's name "The Shirley J. Hewitt Trust". Eventhough the cottage does not sit right on the lake, it has all the access as if it did. My Mom's property has 150 feet of lake frontage which half of that will be used for the Hewitt Cottage where there is a dock, rental boat, fire pit, and beach front. My brothers and I remodeled this place last year (2016) so it is a brand new remodel. I am married to Heidi and we have been married for 31 years. We have three children, Hannah, Kaylee, and Collin. Two of three are married. Heidi and I taught at a local Christian School for 29 years. I do build houses and do remodeling and have been doing this in the summers over the last 28 years. I have recently made this a full time job taking my hobby and making a career out of it. It is with much delight and joy that we can share this beautiful (small) cottage with you and allow you to enjoy the numerous outdoor sights and activities that Northern Michigan have to offer. Thank you for making the Hewitt Cottage your choice of stay while you are at the Tip of the Mit!

Clark Hewitt purchased this cottage in 1938

Why Clark Hewitt chose Petoskey

My grandparents bought this piece of property in 1938 from a lumber company. They built five cottages which are owned by different owners still in the original locations. My grandfather and father ran a coin operated music and game business out of the building you will be staying in. It was called "Bill Hewitt & Son, Inc.". For years, it was called "The Office". My father sold the coin operated game business in 1984. The office sat as storage building until last year when it was remodeled in this cottage.

What makes this cottage unique

Great location wonderful cabin, Heidi and Clark are the best.

What an amazing lake to be on. Kayaking is peaceful and beautiful. Sitting in the backyard around the fire pit with the lake makes it a perfect place to chill. An easy drive into the area towns for good food and interesting shops. We really enjoyed our getaway.

Clean and Inviting

  • 5 of 5

The inside of the cabin was incredible! Nicely decorated and very clean. It was very nice to have almost everything provided including paper products and towels! It felt like home. A minor issues was the geese pop by the dock and the spiders around the cabin. Super minor and definitely not the fault of the owners. We just dont like spiders lol Clark was very friendly and he was super responsive to my emails. We loved our trip and our stay!

Hewitt Cottage - Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

Building is misleading when you pull up. The inside is extremely clean and very nicely done. Its location is very centralized from Petoskey to Charlevoix to Harbor Springs. We took M-119 from Harbor Springs along the shoreline to Cross Village eventually ending up in Mackinac City. What a beautiful drive. Even though there is access to the lake we were not able to enjoy it because we were taking in all the areas out of the way places. Douglas Lake Steakhouse and Bar is a must, Legs Inn in Cross Village was a great surprise. Authentic Polish food served there. We will definitely recommend this cottage to others if we hear someone is planning on being in the area.

A lovely remodeled cottage, perfect for a couple or small family!

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I loved the little cottage and being so close to the water. The owners, Clark and Heidi stopped in to see us soon after our arrival, and were so kind and welcoming! The cottage was perfect for us, a little oasis for a few days, and a short drive to explore Petoskey, Harbor Springs, and Charlevoix. We were able to put our fishing boat in the water, just a mile to the public access, and bring it to the dock in front of the cottage. There were kayaks and two paddle boards there also, but we didn’t use them. Enjoyed our time very much, and would recommend it highly! Also there is a nice grocery store about 3 miles away that had everything we needed.

Quaint cottage for family of 4

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at Hewitt Cottage during the week of 4th of July. The location was close to downtown Petoskey, and an easy drive to Harbor Springs. The cottage had everything we needed for our family. We made many of our meals there, used the paddle board, kayaks, and fishing boat (rented for the week), and just hung out. Our kids loved playing on the sand bar that was a short boat ride away. Our family enjoyed the fireworks shot off from the beach as well as all the ones around the lake. It was quite an amazing show. We would definitely recommend this cottage to a a small family, couples, or a small group of friends. It was beautifully restored, and a great location for day trips to surrounding areas. It is also 5 or so minute drive to an awesome state park.

Beautiful, relaxing and refreshing

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was perfect for our honeymoon. We enjoyed fishing on the boat, using the kayaks and simply relaxing. The cottage has everything you need and was so cute and clean.

It is close to nearby towns which makes shopping and finding restaurants easy.

We hope to be back soon!
