We instantly fell in love with our home in Mendocino. Drawn to the village by its natural beauty, fresh ocean air, and bohemian spirit, Mendocino has become our place to recharge, reconnect and be present with our closest family and friends.
Our historical home was built by the Portugese in the 1860s, who had immigrated from the Azore Islands in search of the good life.
The new Scandanavian-influenced interior brings warmth, coziness and nature into this old redwood structure.
Our recently remodeled kitchen is equipped with plenty of counter space and all new appliances -- specifically a 5-burner gas stove, dishwasher, stainless steel refrigerator & freezer. A washer & dryer are available as well. If you want to try a new cooking experience, use our Sous-vide cooker.
Wake up to Sunday morning jazz and cook to Mo-Town or classic rock-n-roll on our hi-fi speaker system connected throughout the kitchen and living room. Come night-fall, instead of gazing out the large trellis window towards the ocean, peruse our selection of classic blue-ray movies that have made long lasting impressions on us, and watch one with surround sound via our projector and automatic drop down screen.
Use the included internet service and connect to your laptop or iPhone/iPod to play your favorite music. No vacation is complete without the music you love.
When temperatures drop, our two wood burning stoves warm the home up. We've provided plenty of wood and kindling. For fire starting experts, enjoy returning to rustic life. For those unfamiliar with lighting fires, our welcome package includes instructions.
Our loft king bed offers direct access to the upstairs balcony with a stunning ocean view. Our second upstairs bedroom, features a queen bed -- also with ocean view -- and our third bedroom downstairs includes a queen bed. The living room sofa opens into queen bed, perfect for kids or a visiting auntie or uncle to fall asleep by the fire.
Between the front porch and ocean view lies a garden-enclosed front yard, perfect for afternoon picnics. Out the back kitchen door, you'll discover a secluded garden with a deck to enjoy quiet time. Fire up the Weber gas grill to enjoy a sunset BBQ.
Our home is our special place and we're excited to share it with others who appreciate the inherent pleasure of life, slowed down and centered.
3 distinct entry points for our home
- cobblestone path leads you up to our front porch and door.
- our side door opens from our dining area onto the side deck where you'll find chopped wood for the stoves, and our grill
- our back kitchen door opens into our private backyard with garden
Interaction with guests:
We are available any time via email for questions or concerns. Any emergencies, our neighbor (our property manager) is reachable by cell or a knock on her front door.
Our home is nestled along the coast with unobstructed views of the Pacific Ocean and immediate access to the scenic Headlands hike and sandy Portugese beach, yet just steps from historic downtown and its many adorable restaurants and shops, all that Mendo has to offer is literally just out the front door.
We enjoy cooking healthy, organic food sourced from our local Co-Op (Corners of the Mouth) and weekly Farmer's Market (both within 4 blocks), getting morning breakfast and coffee from Good Life Bakery (5 minute walk), and sharing Pinot Noir from all our local producers of Anderson Valley (30 minutes drive). We also love taking long walks along the rugged coastal cliffs while breathing the fresh ionized mist spawn from the ceaseless waves crashing the jagged shores, and getting lost in the Redwood forests guided by the the sun rays spearing through the cathedral canopy in one of the many state parks.
Located on Portugese flat in Mendocino Village, our home is 2 blocks from the bottom of Main Street and the start of the incredible Headlands coastal cliff hike. We are 3 blocks from Mendocino Arts Center - our town's artistic epicenter - and 5 blocks from the main intersection of town (Ukiah and Lansing). Between our lovely community-run bookstore and a truly "Out of This World" toy store are sprinkled cute and unique boutiques and galleries throughout Main Street.
Whether it's catching a yoga class at the Community Center or Stanford Inn, picking up a fresh-baked loaf of Beaujolais bread directly from the baker who supplies the town at 10 am everyday, or exploring the endless hikes in and around town, we highly recommend you just leave your car parked in front of the house and start exploring by foot. Much to discover and experience out there.
Other things to note:
For colder nights, it's important you or someone in your party is comfortable starting a fire or at least learning how to start a fire from our instructions.
