Welcome to The Sonrise in the heart of Kill Devil Hills. The upstairs has been newly renovated to provide you with a comfortable place to spend your next vacation. We have poured much love into making this a place where you can make memories with your family and friends that will last a lifetime. It has 3 fully furnished bedrooms and a couch that opens into a full size bed for extra sleeping, 1.5 bathrooms, fully stocked kitchen and large living area. Our home is conveniently located about 7 blocks from the beach in a quiet neighborhood, but you can reach the main drag in 1 minute or less, so you have the best of both worlds. Also during the busy summer season, you have the supreme advantage and safety feature of having a stoplight that helps you get into and out of the neighborhood...a real plus when everyone else has come to the beach too! Also we donate a portion of our rental income to Samaritan's Purse, so you can enjoy your vacation and help those in need at the same time.
We provide towels and sheets so you don't have to pack those, and when temps may be chilly in the off season, we provide flannel sheets to make your stay even cozier. So you are welcomed and encouraged to come year round.
Kill Devil Hills has unspoiled beaches, rich history, quaint surroundings, and down home attitude of the area’s inhabitants, and there is much to enjoy while you are here. For instance:
The Beach - The beach is still Kill Devil Hills #1 attraction. Like all central Outer Banks towns, Kill Devil Hills has its own set of local beach rules and regulations, including no dogs on the beach from Memorial Day to Labor Day, 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. In addition, glass and bonfires are not allowed on the beaches, and driving on the beach is only allowed during the off-season months of October through March. Bear in mind, however, that these rules are in place to ensure everyone can enjoy the miles of oceanfront, and there's plenty of fun to be had both on and off the sand. There's no major beach boardwalk in Kill Devil Hills, but a quick hop over the dunes, and visitors can be right on the beach road to refresh with a soda or an ice cream from one of the area's many beach-side shops.
Wright Brothers National Memorial - The Wright Brothers Memorial is a tremendously popular attraction for Outer Banks vacationers of all areas, and is open year round, generally from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. depending on the season. Visitors can explore the reconstructed 1903 camp buildings where the Wright Brothers tinkered with their machinery, a visitors' center and original museum with a life-sized replica of the historic first airplane, and the Centennial pavilion which pays homage to achievements in flight since the Wright brothers first flew along the Outer Banks. Operated by the National Park Service, a small fee is required to access the Memorial grounds, but aviation lovers consider it an absolute "Must See" on their travels to the Outer Banks.
Other things to do while at the Outer Banks include visiting the lighthouses, climbing Jockey's Ridge, hang gliding, playing putt putt, going to a movie, shopping, seeing the wild horses of Corolla, riding the ferry to Ocracoke, eating at great restaurants, and much more.
To keep our cost low for you, we do not hire a cleaning crew to clean up after you. We ask that you leave the cottage in as good or better condition than you find it by cleaning the cottage and washing all towels and sheets before you leave. We require a deposit that will cover damages and/or cleaning should you fail to leave the cottage in great condition for the next guests. If you do leave it clean, your deposit will be returned to you.
We have prayed the Lord would bless you while you stay at The Sonrise, and we hope you will make your next vacation memories here.
