Rick and Margy are pleased to offer our historic home for your rental vacation. We rented this house out in the summers for many years (before there were online reviews - we did have repeat renters!), then lived here full time for 10 years. We move out for the summer but will be living nearby and available for questions, picking up trash and recycling 5-6x week, keeping the gardens watered and weeded. We have a landscaping company that will mow weekly and an irrigation system that waters the front yard. We have rented many vacation homes ourselves and know what works and what doesn't, so we are making sure we have what you need. We try to keep condiments, spices, plenty of cooking equipment, glasses (and plastic glasses for back yard), blender, Keurig and coffee maker, wine refrigerator, lots of bath towels and beach towels on hand. We will speak with you during the rental process and again as your rental time comes near, to ensure that we have what you need. When you check in, we will walk you through the house and answer any questions you have. Our goal is your vacation relaxation! We had back to back rentals for 2 summers and wonderful reviews from all our guests! We hope you will leave a 5 star review when you leave!
Margy purchased this House in 1848
Why Margy chose Cotuit
This house has been in our family since 1848! We just love Cotuit. It's a special village, relaxed, lots of fun things to do in town while enjoying the natural beauty of the beaches and gardens. This is a kid friendly town - finding shells, catching crabs, fishing from the town dock, watching the sailboat races, watching the birds - ospreys and seagulls overhead (we have an osprey nest near the back yard) and also the birds which come to our bird feeders. Generations of families return to the village year after year!
What makes this House unique
Location, location, location! This is a beautiful spot. Our grandkids, nieces and nephews love to come here. You can walk to everything - ball games, library, beach, playground, town dock, groceries. Front and back yards are spacious with room for croquet, bocce or ladder toss, tossing a ball. Kids will come back from the beach, play outside, play games or do puzzles on the porch or dining room table, find a chair and read. The house sets up well for a crowd as there are several spaces where people can go to relax and lots of portable seating. We love the front porch for dining in the summer - one large round table for 6, plus a card table and a table for 8 for various people configurations. Adirondack and other chairs plus BBQ grille in back yard. Views of the harbor and beautiful gardens from the yard and kitchen.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Wonderful family summer vacation home
We spent a great week in Margy and Rick's home in Cotuit. The owners were very helpful with tips and suggestions for things to do in the neighborhood and allowed us to use the veggies and herbs from the garden. They communicate proactively and responded quickly to our questions. The house was able to accommodate 10 people and the pictures and description adequately reflect the house and its surroundings. We particularly enjoyed the large garden, the screened porch and the many games and beach utensils that were available.
The only minor areas for improvement are: 1) House was not ready at agreed time on the arrival day, 2) Gardener came to mow the grass at 8 am in the morning, 3) Some of the beds and mattress need replacing.
Thank you so much for your review. We loved meeting you and your family and are so glad you were able to visit so many great Cape places!
We apologize (as does our cleaning group) for the late check in. The cleaning crew got held up in heavy traffic due to torrential rain. They have assured us that they will clean us much earlier from now on. Also due to that same rain, the landscapers weren't able to mow on Thursday and had to jam in all their customers on Friday. Normally they mow midday, so sorry about the early mowing. We will email you privately to better understand which mattresses/beds were a problem, as no one else has mentioned it. Thanks for letting us know. And thanks again for staying at The Ryder House!
They’re very helpful
Peaceful & Relaxing! The Perfect Family Getaway
We had the pleasure of staying at the Ryder House this summer, and it proved to be the perfect landing spot for our trip to Cape Cod. We were able to do lots of day trips, and Margy and Rick had everything needed for a wonderful stay. The owners were so wonderful and met us as we checked in. They showed us around, told us everything we needed to know and provided us with a guidebook of local destinations, restaurants, etc.
Their barn was stocked with all the necessary equipment for a great time at the beach, and we had access to it all. The garden was in full bloom. The house, though on the historical registry felt wonderfully clean with a layout conducive to a family stay. I should also add that prior to our trip, Margy was SO helpful in our planning efforts. What a wonderful hostess!
We would happily return to the Ryder House if we ever vacation in Cape Cod again. It was truly a week to remember!
Cotuit is the quintessential Cape Cod village - the type of place where you go for a walk just to see the beautiful town with its historic homes. In the summers the town comes alive with runners, walkers, baby carriages, boaters. There is plenty to do. Cape day trips to Nantucket from Hyannis or to Martha's Vineyard from Falmouth Heights or Woods Hole are a short drive; shopping is close by at Mashpee Commons, Osterville or Hyannis; Cotuit Kettleers baseball games are 2 blocks away; the Cotuit library has great programs for all ages; the Historical Society has a great gift shop, museums and historical gardens; the Cahoon Museum and Cotuit Center for the Arts are both a short drive. Groceries are available across the street or at Stop n Shop or Roche Bros. Peapod delivers. Lots of restaurants, pizza and ice cream close by in Cotuit, Mashpee, Osterville. Visitors can arrive by bus to Hyannis from Boston's South Station or Logan airport or by bus from downtown Providence. Taxis and Uber are available.
