Private Home With Sweeping Views! Extra-Comfy Bed, Satellite TV, Fully Stocked!

Bedrooms 1
Space 600 sq ft
Property type guest house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Solar powered sustainability life style located on 3 acres in the hills of Lakeside, CA! This retreat-like guest house is the perfect place to experience serenity and relaxation. As your hosts, we live in our own full size home, and your guest house is completely detached from our house. You are totally off the grid here! No telephone poles or electric wires blocking your view! Enjoy sweeping views of the surrounding mountains from your living room, bedroom, and private balcony. There is a king size bed in the bedroom and a twin size bed that opens for 2 additional people. There is a Weber gas grill on the balcony for grilling. Our kitchenette features a sink, full size fridge, toaster/mini-oven, microwave and two-burner hot plate with pots, pans, dishes, and utensils. Coffee and tea are provided.

We would love to leave you a bag of our freshly picked fruit, herbs, or vegetables if you'd like at your front door every morning, when they are in season. We are passionate gardeners and enjoy sharing with our guests!

Guest access

You will have your own 600 square feet private 1 bedroom guest house with a private balcony looking out to sweeping panoramic views of the countryside. Guests are also free to roam the 3 acre property to explore, birdwatch, meditate or just take a walk.

Interaction with guests

We respect our guests' privacy preferences. If you'd like no interaction, that is no problem. If you'd like to get to know us better, we are open and welcoming to that! We'd love to share tea or coffee with you on the lower patio, if you're up for some interaction.

We have a very sweet 60 pound shepherd mix dog. She is social and will want to interact with you.

The neighborhood

We love living here for the peace and quiet and off-grid homes, this is true San Diego countryside! We are about two miles away from Barona Casino, which has a great food court with plenty of international options and an excellent buffet. About four miles away is El Capitan hiking trail, which is known to be one of the toughest hikes in all of San Diego county. If you decide to hike this trail, be sure to read about trail safety, because it is very strenuous.

There is also reasonably-priced gas and a mini mart at Barona Casino. We are about 30 miles away from downtown San Diego and about 32 miles away from La Jolla, which is the nearest beach. The San Diego Zoo Safari Park is about 20 miles away. We are 10 miles away from the quaint town of Ramona, CA which has wineries and outdoor opportunities. If you'd like to try horseback riding, there are many opportunities for lessons nearby off Willow Rd in Lakeside.

We live next to several farms, so there are goats, horses, sheep, roosters, and cows nearby in the neighborhood.

Getting around

There is no public transit, but any car will get you around.

Other things to note

We have 4cats and a sweet, social dog Zena who will want to greet you. Sometimes we have our daughter's dog also visiting.

We have chickens, which provide us with hours of "chicken TV." They are truly entertaining and fun to watch!

Places we recommend and things to do:

If you are going to be staying in the area (i.e., not venturing into San Diego city), I recommend the following places in east San Diego county:

- Annie's Fine Burgers in Santee: (website hidden)

- Pho Ca Dao and Grill in Santee: (website hidden)

- Phil's BBQ in Santee: (website hidden)

- Village House Kalina (Russian) in La Mesa: (website hidden)

- Tiramisu Italian in La Mesa: (URL HIDDEN) hidden)/

In the city of SD, I recommend:

- Pomegranate Russian and Georgian: (URL HIDDEN) hidden)/

- Red Sea Ethiopian: (website hidden)

- Super Cocina (Mexican mole): (website hidden)

Yelp is a good resource for restaurants. Anything 4.5 stars is almost always good!

Things to do:

I highly recommend visiting Torrey Pines State Park. There are many opportunities for hiking and seeing the beautiful ocean from the cliffs. You could also drive the Coronado bridge and then rent bikes and go down the Silver Strand from Coronado to Imperial Beach. If you want to stay close to the guest house, I recommend you plan to hike Potato Chip Rock and/or El Capitan Mountain (very strenuous).

Victoria and Ed were great hosts. The place was clean and spacious. I loved the sunset on the balcony. My son had so much fun on the zipline. Victoria was so sweet and gave us fresh fruit and eggs from the garden. I can't wait to come back to relax in such a wonderful place.

An awesome escape!

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing vacation stay in Victoria's guesthouse. The view was spectacular and the home was perfect for our needs. It was comfortable, clean, and Victoria and her husband were so kind and helpful. They provided all sorts of amenities to make our stay as easy as possible. The balcony was awesome with lots of space to enjoy meals and relax (and nap) on the comfortable patio furniture. It never got too hot with a regular cool breeze and ample shade. The grounds were beautiful and we loved taking walks with our two year old son as well as their dog Zena to visit the chickens. We were close enough to everything we wanted to do in San Diego while at the same time being able to get off the beaten path at this peaceful secluded retreat. It was everything we could have asked for and more!

Hi Victoria

We enjoyed our 2nd stay at your home. MISSED SMOKES. It is funny only 30 minutes from our home and we are in a completely new environment. Looking at the stars at night is always a PLUS.

I hope you are doing well these days. If you can believe it a week later we went hiking in Borrego Springs I lost my footing and tumbled down a hill only to be stopped by a pile of rocks. I broke 6 ribs when I hit the rocks FYI you only have 12 ribs. So my life has been pretty miserable since. I'm a tuff gal 10 years ago I fell off a 3rd floor balcony broken to bits but survived.

We can't wait to see you again, your place is OUR OASIS 30 minutes East. XO Diane

Mountainside Italian villa

When you drive in the gate you might think you've been transported to Italy. The landscape, the architecture and the hospitality draw you in to warm and inviting surroundings. From every side, stunning views carry you as far as the eye can see.

Victoria and Ed make your stay a true "home away from home." Such gracious and generous hosts!
