About the property

The Harbor Beach House and Cottage w/hot tub is located just footsteps (70 feet, or three houses) from the best beach in Santa Cruz. The property has two buildings for one rental fee: a two bedroom house (sleeps four to six), a studio cottage (sleeps two), a sun porch with a view of the waves curling onto the shore, a HOT TUB and two garden patios. This is the perfect site for an extended family getaway or for friends vacationing together. The beach offers constant entertainment or quiet romantic walks.

Bonfire Beach; Wednesday Night Sailboat Races; Sunday Morning Hawaiian Outrigger Club Workouts. Outstanding and popular beach and harbor view restaurants; Bakery/coffee house with tables on the sand

Beach volleyball; Kayak rentals; Bait/boat shop; Tennis (three minute walk); Children's Park w/ Pirate Ship Play Structure (three minute walk); Nearby Schwann Lake Lagoon for kayaking, hiking,or fishing; One mile walk to Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk; Centrally located- ten minutes to downtown Santa Cruz or Capitola Village.

Come and enjoy a day of beach fun and return to a home away from home, immaculate and cozy, for a hot tub and a BBQ on the back patio. Later, build a bonfire on the beach or visit The Crow's Nest to listen to music and dance. A trip to the Boardwalk is always in order or an evening stroll along the yacht harbor(keep an eye out for playful sea otters in the harbor). I love to start my day with an early morning walk along the surf and a cup of coffee at beachside coffee house/bakery,The Kind Grind. Your week can be as quiet and romantic, or active and exciting as you prefer. Come and enjoy this seaside getaway!

About The Owner

My husband, Reed, and I live in Santa Cruz on the Westside and have three sons. We love the beach and particularly enjoy the Twin Lakes Beach area with bonfires at night and great ocean front dining.

The Owner purchased this house in 1987

What makes this house unique

This beach property is located just 70 footsteps to one of the most fun and picturesque beaches in the central coast. It has gorgeous sandy beaches and great local dining. The nearby yacht harbor provides entertainment, Wednesday Regattas, and ocean access. The property has a 2 bedroom house and a studio cottage so that everyone who stays has both privacy and community. The hot tub offers a perfect way to unwind at night as the fog rolls in and blankets the beach. The house is so close to the beach that the sound of waves lulls me to sleep. So relaxing!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a fabulous vacation. We spent a lot of time right at Twin Lakes Beach. I loved that I didn't have to drive to the beach. We used the cruisers more than our car. The Boardwalk was close, but not too close. We built a bonfire one night and rented kayaks at the harbor another.

Great place for a multigenerational family holiday

  • 5 of 5

Again a lovely stay at harbor beach house! It’s become a tradition. There is some construction going on at the beach this go around. Should be done in spring. Still had a great view from sun porch. Dad and I enjoyed the hot tub. Rosie the dog loved the yard. My high school aged girls enjoyed long runs by the beach. We will be back again next year!

Perfect location and relaxed feel

  • 5 of 5

The location is unbeatable! 100 yards to the beautiful Twin Lakes beach, 2 minutes to great coffee at Java Junction and our favourite Santa Cruz activity - listening to and singing along with the ukelele players on the beach on Saturday mornings!

We could walk to The Crow’s Nest, Johnny’s Harborside, Harbour Cafe for breakfast and/or dinner.

The house was ideal for us - 2 couples- and the bed in the cottage was very comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook breakfast and dinner.

This is not a ‘modern, luxury property’ but a cosy, ‘lived-in’ beach-living house. It is beautifully clean just homely instead of pristine e.g. the paintwork around the doors and skirtings is a bit faded and scuffed but that just adds to the relaxed feeling.

There are only a few minor things to note - parking nearby is challenging but there is a driveway for 2 cars if parked in a line. The bed in the 2nd bedroom is in a nook with walls on 3 sides so OK for kids or one person but not for a couple. The en-suite in the cottage has a shower cubicle and a toilet but no wash hand basin so you have to use the sink in the kitchen area for shaving etc. -no mirror and a little awkward when washing your face.

The hot tub is wonderful but we were out most days and we were reluctant to use it on our return due to very strict noise restrictions and warnings about noise after 10pm - we were afraid that even normal conversation might be considered too loud. That said we were so tired we were rarely awake after 10:30!

Bear in mind our stay was for 2 weeks so many of these issues wouldn’t affect the majority of travellers who would only be there for a few days.

Cindy is a very responsible owner we had barely any issues but when we did she replied to texts very quickly and resolved the issues very quickly indeed.

Overall the location, the space, the facilities, the cleanliness was fantastic and I would highly recommend the Harbor Beach House.

Perfect Location

  • 5 of 5

Great little beach house super close to the water. The house was incredibly well stocked and both patios are great to realax and drink coffee or eat dinner. Cindy was great with a small hiccup and totally welcoming, the welcome basket was greatly appreciated. We had a great few nights with the family.

Great place for a family vacation.

  • 5 of 5

Well-laid out house with two bedrooms plus the guest house in back. Very comfortable for our family. Nice kitchen with everything you need to do some light cooking during our stay. So close to the beach which we loved. Especially enjoyed making a bond fire on the beach one evening and roasting marshmallows. The hot tub was a nice addition for the cool evenings. We hope we can return again!

Cozy, clean, and comfy, steps from the beach!

  • 5 of 5

We were thrilled with this well-kept home, located just steps from Twin Lakes Beach. The kitchen was well equipped, the beds were snuggly, the facilities were clean and well maintained, and the hot tub was just the ticket on a slightly chilly weekend. We loved the extra touches, like the bikes and beach toys that were available to us, and the layout (with two beds in the main house and one more in a separate unit) was great for two families traveling together. We would love to come back!
