Cozy little sea shanty!
This place was perfect for our needs! It's a quaint, comfortable little spot located within walking distance of the pier! You don't need to walk up any of those monster hills! We were going for a weekend fishing trip, and this place was a perfect little spot to come home to; to shower, eat and sleep. I wanted to address some of the previous reviews talking about the price...you know what you're paying when you book the place, so it doesn't really feel right to complain about that. Is it overpriced for what you get? Yes, but, there are also VERY limited places to stay in Catalina, which makes it an owners market, and this one's location can not be beat! The place was clean and cozy, and the location was perfect. We briefly met the owner because we checked in a little early. He was super friendly, and very nice, making sure everything was ready for our arrival which I really appreciated.
Now, as for the rental company. BE PREPARED. The contract they send over is very strongly worded. They will add little ticky-tack fines for every little thing. Maybe I've just gotten too used to the customer oriented service of Airbnb, but, i was not ready for the TINY check-in window (you have a two hour window otherwise there are, you guessed it, additional fees!), the strongly worded contract, the fact that you need to clean up the place, otherwise you could incur additional fees, on top of the cleaning fee, etc. The people that I actually dealt with at the rental office were very nice, and we didn't have any issues with the place or the rental company. I just was not fully prepared to deal with a dinosaur in the new age of customer service oriented rental businesses.
Overall, great stay at a home in a great location.
P.s. - The WiFi didn't work while we were there which some other reviews have mentioned.
The distance to the beach and downtown was as expected, just a few blocks. But the rest was unexpected. On arrival, the place looked nothing like it's pictures. It was cluttered with stuff everywhere. Barely any space to bring in your luggage. Smelled bad. Ants crawling all over kitchen. Spider webs in bathroom. The shower is SO small, you can't lift up your arms to wash hair. The toilet was broken from day one. The futon bed was broken. States it sleeps 6, but really only sleeps 3-4 comfortably (which sucks b/c we had 5 people). There was no internet access, although they claim there is. Very disappointing. From pictures, appears to be cute and quaint. In reality, tight and dirty. Wanna cook? Forget about it, the kitchen is unpleasant to look out let alone want to cook in. I complained twice to management, got no response.
Solid Place to Crash & Use as Home Base
Myself and three other dudes all stayed here this past Summer. Knowing that we weren't taking our wives, we prioritized the location over the fanciness of the place with availability being the other major factor. The house was nice - not super nice, but nice. Cutely decorated. Bed that I had was comfy and we easily slept the four of us. The only thing I would do differently if I came back to Catalina was find a solid way to get around for the time there: a golf cart that ties to the unit and could have been used for our time there would have been awesome in hindsight.
Comfortable, clean and close to everything!
Loved this place, very charming a lot of character and conveniently located. Will definitely stay here again.
The house is quaint but dated
Beds, bedding & pillows are sub par. The mattresses are terrible! This isn’t a good set up for two couples because of the fact the bedrooms are essentially right on top of each other and you have to go through one to get to the other unless you go outside. Not worth the price by any means.
Beds had a smell. Pillows need to replaced or cleaned on regularly.
Catalina Island is amazing!
