About Fiona Sutherland
Fiona and her husband purchased the property after visiting Essaouira for a half term adventure with their two school age children. They are married and live in Surrey,UK. When the opportunity arose to purchase a property in the country arose they couldn't resist the temptation.
Fiona Sutherland purchased this House in 2008
Why Fiona Sutherland chose Essaouira
6 months before we purchased Dar Doughri the building was transformed from a two storey home into a 4 storey property with a panoramic roof terrace by an intrepid Englishman named Peter and his Moroccan friend Omar. We were looking for a spacious but well located property with a private and secure roof terrace that was well built and maintained that would not be blighted by the damp and noise that can pervade the riads within the Medina wall. Within 4 months of purchasing the house Dar Doughri was ready to receive guests and swiftly became one of the most successful rental properties in the area.
What makes this House unique
The close location of Dar Doughri near the Medina, beach and bustling town life combined with the sheltered but sun-drenched roof terrace and light and airy rooms made us fall in love with the property. The house is a balanced combination of modern living such as large windows, comfortable furniture and linens, and a fully equipped kitchen combined with traditional touches such as the huge tadelakt bath, pod shower, traditional salon with open fire place. Its location is in a quiet residential street allows our guests to feel immersed in Moroccan life and culture while enjoying the peace and privacy that is essential on holiday. Essaouira is a family friendly destination where their whole family can enjoy the culture, shopping, delicious food and the fabulous beach all through the year.

Well located, spacious and comfy house
Great stay that completely fulfilled our expectations. Wind was very strong during our vacations so we did not stay much on the roof terrace but it was no problem at all as the interior is spacious and nicely decorated. Highly recommended
Home Away in Essouira
This was our second stay in Dar Doughri and we have only good things to say about our visit, except for the weather, which was terrible, but we can hardly blame Dar Dougri for that. On the contrary; the comfortable, spacious house with its many widows - and Karimas superb Moroccan dishes - made us feel comfortably att home in Essouira. The manager, Fouad, was also very friendly and helpful.
After eleven nights at Dar Dpoughri we returnedto Stockholm rested and satisfied with our vacation, despite the weather.
We are already looking forward to our nextr visit!

Spacious, very clean, quiet location.
We are a group of old school friends who have been to Essasouiria several times. This is our first experience outside the medina. Lovely spacious property, every one with their own lovely bedroom and bathroom. Karina looked after us so well with a lovely breakfast on the roof terrace each morning. From booking the property to having a car arranged to pick us up on arrival and return to the airport everything went so smoothly. Had a totally relaxing time. Very easy to hail a taxi and now with a fixed rate, made travelling around simple. We loved our holiday there and would definitely stay at this lovely Riad again.
Thank gou for your kind words. I am so pleased to hear you enjoyed staying in Dar Doughri and that you were able to enjoy Karima's cooking ~ she is an absolute gem. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future.
Home from home
We really enjoyed staying at this property, it exceeded our expectations, with the quality of the furnishings, beds, and all the family games and dvds had us entertained on our days in. We went with our four children aged 3,4,8,12 and the house was child proof and safe for them to wander around on their own.
The house is in a great location to shops and the beach. I definitely would stay here again and would recommend to family and friends.
Thank you for your kind words. Fouad and Karima work hard to make sure Dar Doughri caters for all members of the family. The house and roof terrace are designed to ensure that the whole family can enjoy a relaxing and stress free holiday while confident of their privacy and safety. We look forward to welcoming you and your family back in the future
Really great place
Lovely staff and very nice big house with a beautiful terrace that we spent hours on. A short walk to the beach and the medina. You can buy all manner of fresh fruit and veg in the markets and the kitchen is well equipped. Thanns
Even Better this Time
This was our second visit. We did not think it could be any better, but we stayed longer - 2 and a half weeks - so we found even more to enjoy.
Fouad arranged the taxi from the air[port and was there late in the evening to make sure we settled in.
Karima looked after us well. We had home-cooked meals which were tasty and at the just the time we ordered. The house feels like a second home !
We also found a few more local eateries and takeaways.
As always, the local people were very friendly, and seemed pleased that we
spent time with them.
All in all, another great holiday.
