About Alex Pels
We are a California family, currently residing in San Francisco, but we love our LA house! It's a very special spot, unlike anything else you'll find in LA. We put years of love and care into restoring it, and we keep it in top notch condition in the hope that anyone who stays there will enjoy it as much as we have.
Alex Pels purchased this House in 2005
Why Alex Pels chose Highland Park
We decided to live in Highland Park in 2005, fell in love with this 1924 Casita the minute we saw it. Though it was in bad shape at the time, we knew the view was worth the price alone, and the quiet and seclusion of the hilltop hooked us.
What makes this House unique
Inside: View sunsets over the San Gabriel Mountains from the comfortable living room seating area. Cook a great meal in the large kitchen. Watch some TV on the flat screen. Outside: enjoy the beautifully landscaped yard and lawns, with a trumpet vine covered wall surrounding the whole property.

Beautiful home with a wonderful courtyard. The view from the living room windows is very nice. We watched the July 4 neighborhood fireworks from the outdoor winding staircase. We’re hoping to stay there again when we return to the LA area
This is an amazing property. Everything was absolutely wonderful!
We loved it! Even though my hip replacement slipped out(my fault). We felt so at home. We spent a lot of time on the beautiful patio, the den and the breakfast nook. I will always go back to that amazing home, if I can.
The house was just as advertised. It was charming, clean, well stocked, and had a great view from the hilltop. The owner was very helpful. It was a little tricky identifying the house and the entry door in the dark upon arrival but that is just a very minor issue.
Loved the place. No complaints and would book a stay there again any day.
Charming, spacious and secluded
We really enjoyed our stay at this lovely old house. It was so well secluded was we initially drove past the place without seeing it. The gardens, whilst compact, are extremely well kept and are a peaceful place to spend some downtime. Inside the house was extremely clean, very well maintained and tastefully furnished. There are some decent places to eat and shop in Highland Park although we preferred the more upmarket areas around Pasedena (just a few minutes drive away). Overall we would highly recommend a stay here.
House is beautiful and we'll maintained. This was our second stay at the property so I think says it
Like the location beautiful views and great access to public transportation . Neighborhood is safe and pretty quiet. Must be careful driving in and out neighborhood because streets are very narrow and blind.
Minutes from downtown LA, Staples Center, LA Convention Center, Rose Bowl, and the fabulous Burbank Airport, as well as the first rate shopping and nightlife of Old Town Pasadena.
Also be sure and check out the up and coming restaurants and bars in our own York Blvd commercial district. See the bottom of this ad for articles on the neighborhood from the New York Times and Los Angeles Times.
