4 Bedrooms, 4 Baths, Sleeps 8
Blue Heron Tide is designed to provide a variety of common areas for being together while ensuring that, if one guest wants to read while another plays ping pong, you have enough privacy -- and quiet -- to do both simultaneously. This is a 4-bedroom, 4-bath cottage directly on the ocean on Acadia's Quiet Side, where you can enjoy all of the recreational opportunities that Acadia has to offer without having to sleep in the noise and bustle of it. The cottage is furnished with a nice mix of antiques and decorative touches unique to the area, while providing all of the comforts of home in a fully equipped kitchen, large dining area, full living room with bonus game table, screened-in porch, and separate recreational room and additional reading nook in addition to the bedrooms and baths. Outdoor spaces feature an oceanside patio with gas grille and beautiful view out to the cove and Blue Hill Bay beyond. And, of course, you have direct access to your own private stretch of Maine shore.
Two bedrooms are on the entry floor, one with a double and another with a set of twins. The living room features wall-to-wall windows to maximize the view, and includes a game table and plenty of comfortable seating. The dining room generously seats eight and has ready access to the screened-in porch.
On the second floor there are two additional bedrooms, the master, with a queen bed and separate sitting room, and a second queen bedroom adjacent to a reading nook. Each bedroom has its own private, full bath. The upstairs bedrooms enjoy the same spectacular view as the living and dining rooms. There is also a third level of living space on the ground floor, with a game room and comfortable seating area -- perfect for separate recreation or quiet time. A ping pong table is also included, for entertainment on rainy days or a friendly tournament regardless of the weather.
In the recreation room on the ground floor there is also a game and wicker seating area. A ping pong table is also included, as are a washer and dryer.
Blue Heron Tide includes a fully-equipped kitchen, steps to a quiet stretch of shore, a gas barbecue grille, CD/Radio/TV/VCR, a good collection of short stories, board games, puzzles, and cards for a rainy day or cozy night. At Blue Heron Tide you've got everything you need for your vacation, special occasion, getaway, or holiday.
You can enjoy a wide range of activities or restful times. Settle in with a good book in any of several cozy nooks. Or play ping pong with friends or family on a day at home. You are surrounded by gorgeous sunsets that you can enjoy in your private screened-in porch every evening. And you are steps away from your own private stretch of beach, where you can put in a canoe or kayak, beach comb for shells and sea treasures, or simply enjoy the view out to Maine's famous island-dotted shore, with the Nature Conservancy's Placentia Island in the distance, and Swan's Island just beyond. Every room has a water view and en suite bath. You are less than five minutes' drive from the Acadia National Park trails called Wonderland and Ship's Harbor, which bring you out to gorgeous rocky bluffs along the open ocean and Maine's famous rocky coast. A minute more and you're at Bass Harbor Head Light, the most photographed lighthouse on the U.S. East Coast. In five minutes you’re in Southwest Harbor with ample opportunities for shopping, dining, and boating; in two more minutes you’re hiking Acadia Mountain or swimming in Echo Lake; and in ten minutes you're in Bar Harbor, with its quaint shops, restaurants, whale watching, naturalist boating, sailing, deep-sea diving, Park tours, and many other opportunities.
Few locations in the United States can compare to the beauty and diversity of Mt. Desert Island (MDI) and Acadia National Park. Acadia National Park and its famous gateway towns are treasured the world over as some of the most beautiful spots “where the mountains meet the sea.” Ocean, lakes, mountains, miles and miles of hiking trails, dedicated bicycling and walking trails, gorgeous countryside, and the towns of Tremont, Southwest Harbor, Northeast Harbor, and Bar Harbor provide unlimited opportunities for relaxation and recreation. Come for some much-needed rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation at Blue Heron Tide Seaside Cottage!

A good place for family time.
Spacious and well equipped
Clean and great view!
Very nice and clean. My husband loved the memory foam mattress on our bed. Great place to stay if you want a quiet area! We enjoyed the ping pong table in the basement as added entertainment!
Spacious home on the water
I stayed here with family over the Labor Day weekend. Unfortunately the weather wasn't great for us, but there were plenty of cozy places to sit inside and enjoy one another's company. My nieces loved walking along the shore and discovering, and I enjoyed the peacefulness of the water along the cove.
Rented the house for a week for our family- six adults and three children. We could not have been more pleased with the house. House was in very good condition. Plenty of room to accommodate all nine of us. Well equipped and all the appliances were in proper working order. The three and half baths were perfect for the nine of us.
The only negative were the mosquito population- very strong and agressive once you step outside the house. Bring plent of bug spray! I would recommend the owners spray around the house.
Having said that , I would highly recommend the house to anyone wanting to vacation in the area.
Lovely house in a classic Maine setting
We had a wonderful week with our family at the cottage. The location is beautiful and quiet but near all Acadia has to offer!
So glad you enjoyed your stay! Thanks! Joy & Peter
A great time
Our family had a great week in Southwest Harbor. We truly enjoyed the accommodations. There was plenty of room for our group of seven. The home was clean and fairly well equipped. Another comfortable chair in the living area, as well as a TV in that space would have been nice. We did enjoy gathering around the large dining table, taking advantage of the abundance of games. We deployed our kayaks in the cove when the tide was in, as well took them to Long Pond and Echo Lake. Biking and hiking in Acadia was the best of our journey and we did sunrise on Cadillac Mtn on two occasions(not to be missed). Enjoyed Bar Harbor and some shopping, beer and appetizers there. Future guests who cherish quiet and starlit nights will enjoy the Southwest Harbor. And don't miss Thurston's for good meal, Beal's wasn't bad either.
Acadia National Park on Mt. Desert Island (MDI) offers just about every kind of opportunity for physical recreation or sublime relaxation that you can think about. Hang out on the beach -- either fresh water or oceanside -- with fellow beachgoers, or quietly in private: you decide. Go shopping. Take in a ranger-led program at the Park. Go for an interpretive boat ride and learn about the islands and wildlife, cycle along any of the 50 miles of Carriage Paths. Or just kick back and let someone take you on a sail around the outer islands. You can hike, walk, fish, swim, canoe, enjoy a meal dockside or on linen tablecloths, visit a museum or a beautiful garden; catch up on your reading. Acadia can be about whatever you want it to be but, most of all, Acadia is about getting out and enjoying nature. For hikers and walkers, see a list of trails organized by difficulty rating, courtesy of the National Park Service. The Park also features Ranger-led activities. Or, if you already know about the splendor and beauty of the Acadia region, support its preservation and sustainability by joining Friends of Acadia. Here’s a sampling of activities within 2 to 20 minutes of your accommodation at Acadia Seaside Cottages: • Walk on your own private beach. Right outside your door, down your own private steps is beachcomber’s paradise. Canoeists and kayakers can explore protected Duck Cove. • Tour Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse. • Visit the shops in Bar Harbor, enjoy a meal, or just stroll the sidewalks for some eclectic window shopping. • Rent a canoe on Long Lake. • Hike Acadia Mountain, then swim in Echo Lake at the end of the trail. • Rent bikes at Southwest Cycle in Southwest Harbor for a tour around the Carriage Paths. • Get an ice cream at the Quiet Side Café in Southwest Harbor (they have some of the best blueberry pie in the region, too, we might add). • Eat lobster on the pier at Thurston’s in Bernard (lunch is best since it's less crowded). • Take in a round of golf at the Causeway Club in Southwest Harbor. • Do the driving tour on Park Loop Road in the Park, and then enjoy traditional tea and popovers at the Jordan Pond House, or a day at Sand Beach. • Take in Ship Harbor Nature Trail. • Walk the Wonderland Nature Trail (also accessible to wheel chairs and strollers). • Glide on your cedar front-porch glider in the evening, as the sun sets over the cove and the outer islands. • Take a scheduled cruise out to the outer island with a ranger or naturalist as a guide • Add your favoite activity! Blueberry picking on the Carriage Paths? Dinner and a show in Bar Harbor?
