Very PRIVATE BEACHFRONT condo in Poipu! End unit in single-level building. #200

Bedrooms 1
Space 620 sq. ft.
Property type condo
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

Fall asleep to the sound of the waves in one of the most private beachfront homes in Poipu! Unit 200 is an end unit in a single-level building, surrounded on three sides by lush grass and unparalleled views of the ocean. The waves break literally 40 feet from the serene grassy lanai. The 4 panel floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors to the beachfront lanai can close for serene quiet.

This remodeled condo features 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, and open living area (with full kitchen, dining/nook, and family room that includes a pull-out couch), leading out to a lanai with grassy yard and privacy hedge (low enough to always see the beautiful ocean).

Located in Kiahuna Plantation, the only beachfront condo property in Poipu, guests enjoy front desk check-in/check-out, housekeeping, BBQs and picnic tables, beach hut (with beach towels, rentals, and activities), self-serve laundry room, orchid and cactus garden walks, expansive lawns, reflection lakes, and Plantation Gardens Restaurant and Bar. Guests also receive complimentary access to the Poipu Beach Athletic Club across the street, featuring a resort pool, fitness gym, tennis courts, basketball half courts, pickleball courts, and café. Pool day passes and cabana rentals are also available at neighboring Sheraton Kauai Resort.

Walk across the street to Poipu Shopping Village with an array of dining (including Keoki’s Paradise restaurant, Puka Dog - featured on Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations TV show, Thai and Mexican eateries, as well as gelato and breakfast spots) and shopping (including art, clothing, jewelry, and general store).

Less than a mile away is Kukui’ula Village Shopping Center with 42 dining and shopping venues, including art galleries, clothing, jewelry, casual and fine dining, drug store, and gourmet market with local produce.

About Dave and Sara Cogan

We are native mainlanders that fell in love with the island of Kauai and, specifically, the Poipu area. It was the first place we visited together as a couple, and got married there 4 years later. This is our second home, and we hope our guests will feel that way, too.

Dave and Sara Cogan purchased this condo in 2017

Why Dave and Sara Cogan chose Poipu

Kiahuna Plantation Resort is the only true swim able beachfront condo property in Poipu. The property itself is beautiful, and very well taken care of. The onsite amenities are great, and additional walkable lifestyle choices are many and varied. In the mornings and evenings, the beach becomes very quiet and you truly feel like it's your private beach.

We had a great week here. The sound of the breaking waves just outside the property, especially at night, was so relaxing. The property is on a great location on the island and close to many different adventures, restaurants and activities. Views of the sunset from our patio were beautiful.

A week at the beach

  • 4 of 5

This condo has location location location.

The sound of the waves with the privacy of home. It had everything we needed, from a blender to snorkels.

We barbequed fresh fish, had nightly cocktails at sunset and coffee on the patio each morning.

not as private as would have liked

  • 3 of 5

I should have done more reasesrch on the property. The west side is open to a public beach area so you will have people standing and showering from sun up to sun down 15' from you windows. I know the beach is public but afternoon when we came home the hedge that is in the picture between the room and the ocean would be set up with umbrellas and beach goers staring into you room. Multiple times during the evening people would walk thru the grass area short cutting back. The views were great first thing in the morning and evening. The complex is nice and quiet but lavas bar area has two outside showes a week and # is the closest

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review, Mark. Our home is the most private condo on the property with amazing views. Morning and night the beach is super quiet and empty. During the days, the beach may be busy or it may be quiet. It depends on the number of guests staying. There is no beach access from our lanai, which cuts down on traffic. Occasionally you will see guests exploring the property that happen to walk in front of our lanai, but that is rare. The privacy hedge between our home and the beach is set higher than the beach, which allows for beautiful views of the ocean and an occasional umbrella with limited views of beachgoers when sitting on our lanai. The west corner of our privacy hedge has a large amount of landscaping to provide even more privacy from the beachgoers, which also adds nice shade during the afternoons. Plus, all of our windows and doors have plantation shutters that can be closed for added privacy. The luau next door at the Sheraton is rated the best on the island. Though it's conducted twice per week, it ends at around 8:00pm. It offers an opportunity for guests to watch the show free from the beach, or for those not interested, it's a great time to go out for dinner.

Very nice location. Just a few steps to the water

  • 4 of 5

Overall, this was a very clean and well-appointed condo. My sole complaint was that it was bit hot and stuffy from midday to the late evening. Perhaps it was the time we went, but there were virtually no ocean breezes we've normally experienced on the Hawaiian Islands. One suggestion would be for a portable fan to assist with cooling the bedroom.

Owner's Response: Glad you had a great time, Jess. :) It's so rare to not have any ocean breeze, especially being right on the ocean. We've never experienced that ourselves at our home. We do have ceiling fans, and a floor fan located in the bedroom closet. We apologize - it sounds like it was hidden too well.

One of our top places to stay in Hawaii

  • 5 of 5

This place is great and the owners, Sara and Dan, are fantastic. They were very responsive to my few questions regarding the place and the place was exactly as described on HomeAway. My thoughts are as follows:

You are really paying for the location of this condo. It is literally on the beach with stunning views and great beach location. There is a nice grass area right in front of the condo. It is an end unit with some trees on the side that provide great shade in the afternoon hours so you can sit in the shade. It is around a 30 yard walk to the beach (note you cannot walk in a straight line from the condo to the beach as there is a hedge). The hedge though acts as a great barrier of privacy from the beach and your condo backyard. There is good surfing not too far away.

The condo itself was clean and in very good condition. Our sons brought their own air mattresses so I do not know how comfortable is the pullout sofa bed. The master bed was great and the kitchen had everything we needed but we did not cook meals at the condo. During the evening, it is noticeable warm but manageable. There are fans in the master bedroom and in the main room which are extremely helpful. We left the windows open at night which helped with the ocean breeze. We were fine without AC but it would have been a nice touch at times. Remember that we did stay here at the hottest time of the year. With that said, our family did not complain about the heat in the condo.

The gym is located across the street and is around a 10 minute walk or you can drive there. The gym itself had older equipment compared to what you would find in a Westin Hotel. With that said, it had a larger selection of equipment and the rooms were large. Our family liked the gym but realize you will not be using the latest equipment.

Swimming Pool

My family is beach people and we rarely use the swimming pool when we are in Hawaii. We never did use the swimming pool which is also located across the street by the gym at the same location. If a swimming pool is a high priority for your trip to Hawaii, the pool that we saw is very basic. It would work great for kids 8 and under. If you have older kids that like huge water slides and multiple swimming pools, this is not the location for you. For our family, the swimming pool is not a priority so it was a non-factor for us.

We loved it and we will be back. I highly recommend it.

Owner's Response: So glad your family enjoyed your stay, Greg! Thanks so much for your thoughtful review! Just a quick note for guests that are looking for great pool time, as well...(1) The Poipu Athletic Club pool (free to guests) is great for kids, and at times is a nice quiet retreat from beach-goers. (2) Another great option is the Sheraton (right next door) that allows our guests to use their beach-side pool for a fairly small daily fee, which includes food and drink service, as well as pool cabana and beach cabana options.

We found the Perfect Condo!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Kiahuna Plantation condo #200 for the first time the last week of April and was beyond impressed. It was our sixth time staying at Kiahuna (all in the beach front) so I think we're pretty good candidates to say which condo ranks right up there in the top spot.

This is hands down the most private condo. You have a few vacationers who are occasionally lost walking past and the few morning joggers that come around but other than that its very secluded. The hedge in front is just the right height to allow a beautiful view of the ocean and great sunsets but high enough not to feel uncomfortable from the people on the beach. It is a one story building with only one neighbor on one side making it q quiet spot as well.

This condo has the best grassy shade for the hot afternoons! You can relax on the grass in front of the condo all afternoon into the evening as you watch the sunset.

The condo itself is stocked with everything you need, including nice new beach chairs, bogie boards and umbrella. The bed is comfortable, and the fold-out is perfect.

It has a Keurig coffee maker and coffee stocked adds a special touch. The owners are also great which makes this condo our best pick.

So if you’re planning on staying at Kiahuna Plantation, you cannot find anything better than this!
